      Askhenazi Jews

Ashkenazi Jews, also called Ashkenazim are Jews who are descendants
of Jews from Germany, Poland, Austria and Eastern Europe. In
historical times, Ashkenazi Jews usually spoke Yiddish or a Slavic
      language.

      History of the word Ashkenaz

Ashkenaz is a Hebrew word for Germany, and in particular to the area
along the Rhine where the allemani tribe once lived (compare the
      French word Allemand for Germany).

The word ashkenazi is often used in medieval rabbinic literature.
References to Ashkenaz in Yosippon and Hasdai's letter to the king
of the Khazars would date the term as far back as the tenth century,
as would also Saadia Gaon's commentary on Daniel 78. Literature
about the alleged Turkic origin of the Ashkenazi population appeared
mainly after 1950. In the first half of the eleventh century Hai
Gaon refers to questions that had been addressed to him from
Ashkenaz, by which he undoubtedly means Germany. Rashi in the latter
half of the eleventh century refers to both the language of Ashkenaz
(Commentary on Deut. iii. 9; idem on Talmud tractate Suk. 17a) and
the country of Ashkenaz (Talmud, Hul. 93a). During the twelfth
century the word appears quite frequently. In the "Mahzor Vitry",
the kingdom of Ashkenaz is referred to chiefly in regard to the
ritual of the synagogue there, but occasionally also with regard to
certain other observances (ib. p. 129).

In the literature of the thirteenth century references to the land
and the language of Ashkenaz often occur. See especially Solomon ben
Adret's Responsa (vol. i., No. 395); the Responsa of Asher ben
      Jehiel (pp. 4, 6); his "Halakot" (Berakot i. 12, ed. Wilna, p. 10);
the work of his son Jacob ben Asher, "Tur Orah Hayyim" (lix.); the
Responsa of Isaac ben Sheshet (Nos. 193, 268, 270).

The first use of the name comes from a midrash about the descendants
of Japheth (Genesis 10.1.) In the midrash compilation Genesis
Rabbah, Rabbi Berechiah mentions "Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah"
as German tribes or as German lands. It may correspond to a Greek
word that may have existed in the Greek dialect of the Palestinian
Jews, or the text is corrupted from "Germanica." This view of
Berechiah is based on the Talmud (Yoma 10a; Yer. Meg. 71b), where
Gomer, the father of Ashkenaz, is translated by "Germamia," which
evidently stands for Germany, and which was suggested by the
      similarity of the sound.

In later times the word Ashkenaz is used to designate southern and
western Germany, the ritual of which sections differs somewhat from
that of eastern Germany and Poland. Thus the prayer-book of Isaiah
Horowitz, and many others, give the piyyutim according to the Minhag
      of Ashkenaz and Poland.

      Customs, laws and traditions
During Passover, Ashkenazic Jews traditionally refrain from eating
legumes, peanuts, corn, millet, and rice, whereas Sephardic Jews do
not prohibit themselves from consuming these foods.

Ashkenazic Jews frequently name newborn children after deceased
family members, but not after living relatives. Sephardic Jews, on
the other hand, often name their children after living relatives.

      Relationship to other Jews

The term Ashkenazi also refers to the nusach (Hebrew, "liturgical
tradition") used by Ashkenazi Jews in their Siddur (prayer book). A
nusach is defined by a liturgical tradition's choice of prayers,
order of prayers, text of prayers and melodies used in the singing
      of prayers.

This phrase is often used in contrast with Sephardic Jews, also
called Sephardim, who are descendants of Jews from Spain, Portugal
and North Africa. There are some differences in how the two groups
pronounce Hebrew, and in points of ritual.

Several famous people have this as a surname, e.g. Vladimir
      Ashkenazi.

The Jews in Israel as we know them today, do not look like the Jews
we know that live around us.....

Presently there are two main groups of Jews,,,,, Askhenazi and
Sepharic..... Askhenazis have pale skins, and some have blue eyes
and light hair, quite a bit taller than the Sepharic Jew.
The Sepharic Jews are more oliveskinned with dark hair.
I find they are not quite too friendly to each other,,,
Askenazis refer to the other group as "Israeli's" and to them selves
      as Jews....

      1. Yes you are right there are Ashkenazi jews, and Sephardic jews.
Both of them reside in Isreal. One point of correction. Ashekanzi's
jews in Isreal consider themselves Isrealie as well. Most jews in
the U.S. are Ashkenazi in origin. The Word Ashkanzi in Hebrew can be
translated as german, whereas Sepahrdic refers to spain. The origin
of these two words really comes from the two distinct groups of jews
that existed during the Diaspora from 100Ad onwards.

Ashkenazi jews usually referred to Jews who migrated and lived in
Northern Europe, while Sephardic otherwise known as Oriental jews,
were Jews of the Asian, North African, middleasern and Spanish
ancestry....Sephardics tend to be darker more Eastern/semetic
looking while many Ashekazis tend to look more European an pale, due
to the fact that they have been intermarrying and living in Europe
since the Diaspora during roman times. . Most of the jews in the
western world are of Ashkenazi origin, while sephardic jews tend to
be more traditional in origin, with stronger ties to semetic culture
and practices. you are right however that there is quite a bit of
tension between the two groups. Many Sephardic's have acused the
Ashkenazi of racism. Which does not suprise me since Ashkenazi tend
to come from wealtheir european more secular families, and
Sephardic's tend to be more religious and culturally differnt from
      there more westernized counterparts.

But neways in regard to what you were saying I would think that
Jesus probably took after the sephardic origin, since he was
      Isrealie..

Jewish people are native to Israel (Score 2)

Arthur Koestler wrote in his book 'The Thirteenth Tribe' >>>>

Arthur Koestler's theory of the Ashkenazim al coming from the
Khazars is bogus. Koestler is a writer of novels, not an historian,
and no other Jewish writer agrees with him.

The Khazars indeed became Jewish and many Jews in the southern
Soviet Union area may be descended from them.

However, the great mass of the Ashkenazim, the Jews who lived
throughout Europe, are descended from Jews who settled in the Rhine
and Danube valleys during Roman times and people in those areas who
converted to Judaism in Roman times and during the early Middle
      Ages.

The Khazars were a Turkish people. The Ashkenazim are not and spoke
Yiddish until modern times. Yiddish is Middle High German with
Hebrew and Slavic vocabulary added. If linguistic heritage is any
indication of a people's history, the Khazars and Ashkenazim were
not the same group of people. One amusing indication that the
Ashkenazim were not the same as the Khazars is that the word
"Khazar" is slang in Yiddish for a person who eats like a pig,
apparently refering to the much more primitive Khazars.

The only place where the Khazar theory of the origin of the
Ashkenazim is still seen is on antisemitic/anti-Israel websites,
where the theory is used to deligitimize the Ashkenazim as Jews on a
      Nazi-like racial basis.

      ==========================

      And the mystery deepens..

      http//encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Ashkenazi

Clearly the Quran is correct in saying that Israelis are children of
those who were saved from the Flood of Noah.. And NOT just the
      children of Shem or Jacob..

The first use of the name comes from a Midrash about the descendants
      of Japheth (Genesis 101).

          Peace be upon you all,

"children of isreal" are the ideas that move us through the journey towards the God.

If someone could confirm this, the word being translated as "children" actually means MALE children, is this correct? And Isra=ascention.

So it is the "male children" of the ascension, which are our thougts(jinn).

We are "Musa" leading our male thoughts(the male principle is the active principle) towards the Most High, the ascension.

Please allow me to correct your translation.
Bani means children ( The children here can be all male but it also can be male and female)
              Isra means Night journey
Eel is a hebrew word for GOD, very close to Elah in Arabic.

Take care and have a great day

                  Salam Idolfree,

I guess the two main points are, in Arabic when we use the masculine plural, this can include males and females. When we use the feminine plural, then it will always be all females.

Isra is not an ascension but a journey that you do at night.

That is it. I just wanted you to be aware of those differences, just in case you wanted to make mild adjustments to your nice statement. Salam brother

And I wasnt sure which to post in, but the issue of who the Children of Israel are, has been bugging me for some time now.

God says he chose them, so it kind of makes everyone else feel a bit down in the dumps, know what I mean?

But I'm sure I saw a verse that said he chose the Children of Israel above all other creatures which makes me think this term could be referring to all of mankind, rather than a race of people. If it were a race, then surely God would say He chose them above all other races, right?

But having said that, I'm sure the Quran says the 'Children of Adam' at various points too, which could refer to mankind, while the Israel refers to a race...which gets me down again, lol.

So anyway, I hope you knowledgable people can continue to debate and enlighten over this issue. I want to know if this term does indeed refer to a race of people, and if so, why they have so much importance. The Quran refers to them numerous times.

I responded to the other post you created, but i will respond to yor statements here as well.

No, what this means is that THEY CHOSE THE GOD. They are the CHOOSING people, not chosen people. The God does not play favoritism. D It is the "thoughts" in the mind that CHOOSE the God that are the children of isreal.

But I'm sure I saw a verse that said he chose the Children of Israel above all other creatures which makes me think this term could be referring to all of mankind, rather than a race of people. Right, those creatures are the jinn(concealed forces/thoughts). Those that CHOOSE the God are the chosen.

But having said that, I'm sure the Quran says the 'Children of Adam' at various points too, which could refer to mankind, while the Israel refers to a race...which gets me down again, lol.

Adam represents al mankind, so the "children" of all mankind are "jinn" (concealed forces/thoughts/emotions)

No, the God does not fuel the seperation game of racism. The God is speaking in a HOLISTIC MANNER to people with fragmented minds. Our job is to not break apart what the God ordered to be joined. Divide and conquer is the shaytaans method.

No, the God does not fuel the seperation game of racism. The God is speaking in a HOLISTIC MANNER to people with fragmented minds. Our job is to not break apart what the God ordered to be joined. Divide and conquer is the shaytaans method.

I know, I know, I really tried to not think of it like that, but what with all the distortions of translations and nasty discourse going on out there, I guess it got under my skin somehow. 'Israel' is in the public mind all the time, its specific, troubled, the word has many connotations.

Thanks for your reply, it helps me on my journey to free myself of the background noise of this world. People born into post-modernism have to go through the trouble of shedding alot of baggage, lol.

Unless if they were born on a remote mountain or island in which case they can live it up, free from the shackles of pre-conceived notions!

                          Peace.

Children of israel are those who are entrusted with intelligence a little above over the other people by god, as only a test for them in this world. God knew they were the people who shall be proud and arrogant and involve in destruction and transgression. The choice is theirs either they be humble and be grateful for what allah had granted; or, indulge in inflicting the world communities with excesses using their 'testy-intelligence'. God has chosen the children of israel from the rest of the people of the world communities as a warning and remind.

God will choose amongst you, the rest of the tribes/communities too! When He endows you with the wisdom a little above the rest of the people of your tribe/community, please mind "You're the chosen ones from the rest, for the test!" So be not fallen people like the israelites, then! If you fall, you are chosen people for the hell, like the israelites of today!
