arbA&atun(four) or ArbI&atun(springs)
-
In my search for the better meaning of 9/36, one that would reconcile it with the rest of the scripture or at least with my understanding of it, i have tried to read it as it was allegedly(imo its generaly accepted) firstly recorded - without diacritical marks(differing between consonants which share the same primary shape) and vovels....
I would like others, particularly more knowlegeable in grammar, to try this approach too, both with the rest of the book ,and particularly, with the verses relevant to this topic....
here what i stuck upon yesterday...
the word "four" "arba&atun" could be read as "arbI&atun" which according to my dic could be plural of "rabii&"-spring(a season of the year)...
so the verse could read "of it,(or from it/then) springs are forbiden"....this translation would perfectly provide the gap for the missing explanation in regards of the puzzling question of which months are forbiden/restricting.....
currently i dont think this is the intended meaning of the verse but i would like to study it more with your help...
particularly, i would like to know if it is possible to translate or understand "min ha" as "from it", more precisely, as "from then"(meaning from the day He created the heavens and the earth)...
if it is possible then this meaning would rank very high on my list of possible understandings of 9/36, whose lack is very annoying to me to the measure that it performs daily attacks on my faith in divinity or/and completness of our scripture...this might be a mighty test of my faith....
a note, there are two months in islamic lunar calendar which are called the first spring and the second or other or later spring?(ayman mentioned that they were separated in the past, could it be that there were four months called spring in the pre-revelation times?)
i appeal to those with more arabic grammar and culture in possesion to reaserch into this line of thought.....
btw.... the root rb& is very rich in different meanings in my dic and it has more of interesting meanings besides this i mentioned.....
best wishes, Zlatan

Peace dear brother Zlatan,

The expression "minha" is feminine. Hence, it must refer to something feminine that was said before. The only feminine word that was mentioned before in the sentence is "3ida(t)" (count). Hence, it should be read as "from it (the count) are "arba3a(t)" restricted."
The only thing that can be from a certain count is another smaller count. Hence, my understanding is that "arba3a(t)" indeed means "four".
if it is possible then this meaning would rank very high on my list of possible understandings of 9/36, whose lack is very annoying to me to the measure that it performs daily attacks on my faith in divinity or/and completness of our scripture...this might be a mighty test of my faith....
Brother, I emailed you an article that attempts to resolve this issue a couple of days ago. I would greatly appreciate your comments on it.

According to the best evidence we have, they were indeed seperated in the past. Also, there is absolutely ZERO "pre-quranic" evidence for the existence of a "pre-quranic" month by the name of Ramadan.
I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Peace and all best wishes,
Ayman

Peace and salvation to you ayman!
...thanks for the comments and the honor to review your article....,
I thought, it seems now mistakenly, that yawm is also of femine gender....(ill check in the dic. and grammar books; there are some words which may recive both genders)..
i have recieved the mail only yesterday and have read it instantly..however for a valuable critic and judgment i must read it several times and ponder a lot, and thus i think you will not hear soon from me on that article...particularly considering my ussual slowness...in all the matters...
at least i think you are on a good way....the solution (i feel) might be in proper understanding of ahillah since they seems directly connected with the ?hajj? and/or shahr of restriction....
however we maybe wont be able to get the final and most correct solution until we resolve all the issues and thus be able to resolve the matter in the light of the book as a whole...
one of the most important issues being the question, is the book(with all of its detail regulations, verbatim and to the letter) intended for all of the humanity and times or only to one cultural milieu, the one who has originaly recieved it...
Best wishes

- Those who rejected had put in their hearts the rage of the days of ignorance, then God sent down tranquility upon His messenger and the believers, and directed them to uphold the word of righteousness, and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And God is fully aware of all things.
I think this verse can shed some light on the word "ahilla", as "ahlaha" means "worthy of it / qualified for it".
