Does Quran forbid Astrology?
-
I studied astrology for awhile out of curiosity. Natal charts seem so accurate provided we use the time of birth. I used mine to fix some of my personality problems.
I looked into predictions, but unfortunately, they made me laugh rotfl. They do not come true. I have come to conclusion that astrology doesn't exactly predict the future. The astrologers simply look at the person's natal chart to analyze how his life will shape in the end. I do know about horary astrology, but didn't get to do research on it. As far as I know, this is the one that according to astrologers is used for future predictions. That said, retrogrades and return of saturn in sun signs seem very real to me. During Venus retrograde, I see mass relationship breakups.
I refrained from going into Egyptian and Indian astrology because those two are heavily occult. I spent more time studying the western one which actually is now universal.
The accurateness of natal chart made me wonder as to what Quran says about astrology. I would like your input on these verses
And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason. 1612
Say, "Observe what is in the heavens and earth." But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe. 1010
It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases - that you may know the number of years and account . Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know 105
Are they talking about planetary influences?
By the way, Buruj is the word that caught my attention because it means constellation.
If I am wrong please correct me.

I have been curious about astrology myself. It is that I have noticed many people follow the characteristics of their zodiacal sign including myself and I do not really struggle to impersonate my sign but yet I fill the core features of it.
However, predictions about the future I do not find to be more than guesswork.

It depends on how astrology is used.
I also encountered natal and transit charts awhile ago.
I overall find the interpretation of my natal chart to be accurate, but opposite for the transit chart.Based on my personal opinion, astrology should not be used to the extend that our free will become controlled and restricted. It can be used as personality report but for forecast is...a different story. I agree with you about Indian astrology, the interpretation are just fatalistic. -

Exactly! The accuracy of my sun sign led me to look into natal charts.

One of my friends told me that delving into future predictions can turn into addiction. That scared me. But I am not interested in that at all. What I find amazing is the amount of things astrology tells us about our personality. In my experience, to some extent, it overrides things mentioned by psychology studies.
When I was sunni I did visit some of the sites that said "astrology is haram, period!" But the verses and my research on astrology left me stunned. I didn't find any verse forbidding it. But if anyone has one let me know.

They just love to make things haram forbidden while the word itself means "goodly/sanctified" and if you put "annema' before (haram) it means "It is not goodly...", i.e. it is not advised or recommended since everything is a spiritual guidance to have a safe and sound soul.
Anyway, superstition and conjecture is mainly detrimental for your own sake if you put faith in untrue things.

Salaam Reel,
I think if we really start to believe in and especially the future predictions, then it can be bad. My friend and I often check astrology. The natal chart, and the signs. It is fun. The sun, moon, etc signs and their descriptions about personality, etc are so fun to read. Some of it seem so true as well. We don't check out the future ones. They seem not true and also because we shouldn't be believing in it.

SalaamPerhaps when Muslims say 'Astrology is haram', they are referring to the use of forecasting the future and the cheesy horoscopes from newspapers. Most of people do not know what natal charts is anyways.
Its true that they refer to prediction. But the problem is that the way they describe it is fully wrong. They tag the entire Astrology as based on "predictions".
Why not first understand the subject before declaring whether it is forbidden or okay? This is really irritating.
The most ignorant comment I ever read
Astrology (not to be confused with Astronomy) is haram in Islam, like all Magic and Communication with the Jinn world (Demonic entities or "Spirit World" as it is called in our generation)http//www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?299850-Is-Astrology-permitted-by-IslamOf course, they have fake hadith to go with it
Al-Bukhaari said in his Saheeh Qutaadah said ?Allaah created these stars for three purposes to adorn the heavens, to stone the devils and as signs by which to navigate. Whoever seeks anything else in them is mistaken and does not benefit from them, and he is wasting his time and effort in seeking something of which he has no knowledge.? (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, Baab fi?l-Nujoom, 2/240)Thats how astrology is made haram by Sunnis. But if you just reread that pathetic para you will see that it forbids space travel, space stations, research satellites and above all, NASA. We can't use the planets "at home". Space travel is done specifically to study the stars and space. We don't exactly get much out of it and we have less knowledge about them. Hence, according to the hadith above, they are all forbidden, I suppose?

I know that future predictions are stupid. But I don't see how it is wrong to check natal charts.
Hmm..I wondering if anyone here tried synastry chart....
Me yay and it worked. I went by my 7th house first. But synastry chart later confirmed I was on the right track.
