Does [60:10] of Quran say a Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim?
-
Salaam,
Depends on if your definition of kafir is non-muslim. A kafir is a person who acts like a criminal, unrighteous, liar, and I can agree someone who helps with marriage should not let a righteous woman marry someone like that against her will.
But I suppose you meant people from other sects which you personally and your sect do not label by the word Muslim. Kafir is more than a disbeliever, the word barely has such connotation. But the above paragraph's unrighteous character shows why GOD sounds so furious with kafiroon. Why would GOD care about someone who disbelieves and with such temper for nothing which does not really matter to GOD who has no needs or wants?
A kafir on the other hand makes the life miserable for people around him or her. And a kafir can claim to be a Muslim by label and still be kafir plus hypocrite. It is irrespective of some sectarian doctrinal ideology.

No, you're wrong. If you could read Arabic and you weren't the Westerner you were, you would have known Zalimun is the word for a person who acts like a criminal, unrighteous, liar, but backward Sunni clerics translate the word as either "Unbeliever" or "Polytheist," but it truly means a wrong-doer. Kaffir is any non-Muslim and it doesn't transgress this definition. Read chapter "al-kafiroon," it will show Quran has nothing against non-Muslims, if you read the chapters about Zalimun, you will read that they will deservedly get ever-lasting hell because of their mischief.

This question was answered if you could read Arabic and differ between Zalimun and Kaffir, but you read from a translation "unbeliever" and automatically assume kaffir, when it could have been Zalimun. -
It does not say that imo.

None of you give compelling arguments, Man of Faith made a linguistic flawed definition of "kaffir," the first post do not make any sense and do not care about your contradictory opinion, I want a solid exegesis of the verse from a Quranist standpoint, well sourced... not simply an "interpretation."

It is not dealing with who can marry whom but on the fact that dowers may have been paid or have to be paid. It is not putting a special limit for women. On the other hand there is another aya in the Qur'an, can't remember which which says that no mumin can marry a non mumin. No special prohibiton on that count depending on sex.

Situation of the women who converted to Islam from the Surah
The disbelieving husband coming to know his wife has converted. He can't take it. He speaks evil about her and tries to convince her to disbelieve. When this doesn't work he tortures her and then throws her out of the house. Her marriage is over. Her life is in danger. That's what Allah says in 6010. Her refuge the believers group. The entire Surah explains it. It is applicable to both the genders.
If they gain dominance over you, they would be to you as enemies and extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve.602
There has already been for you an excellent pattern in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, "Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah . We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone" except for the saying of Abraham to his father, "I will surely ask forgiveness for you, but I have not for you anything against Allah . Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the destination. There has certainly been for you in them an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever turns away - then indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.604-5
Do note that Prophet Ibrahim didn't leave his father just because of religion. His father actually even threatened to get him stonned in 1946.Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. 606
If the disbelieving husband does not harm his newly converted Muslim wife she has no reason to leave him.
Allah only forbids you from those who fight you because of religion and expel you from your homes and aid in your expulsion - that you make allies of them. And whoever makes allies of them, then it is those who are the wrongdoers.607
She may divorce only if he harms her for her religion and then kicks her out of the house. But the situation explained in this verse looks worse. The disbelievers were making sure that the new Muslims were boycotted by others How would that be for a wife of that time? Women hardly had any rights back then.
O you who have believed, when the believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them. Allah is most knowing as to their faith. And if you know them to be believers, then do not return them to the disbelievers; they are not lawful for them, nor are they lawful for them. But give the disbelievers what they have spent. And there is no blame upon you if you marry them when you have given them their due compensation. And hold not to marriage bonds with disbelieving women, but ask for what you have spent and let them ask for what they have spent. That is the judgement of Allah ; He judges between you. And Allah is Knowing and Wise. 608
From the previous verse, we come to know that these women were already told to leave by their husbands. That's what Allah confirms to the believers' group. And if you have lost any of your wives to the disbelievers and you subsequently obtain , then give those whose wives have gone the equivalent of what they had spent. And fear Allah , in whom you are believers.609
It looks like the disbelieving wives of the new believing husbands also left for the disbelieving team.Overall, 6010 is talking about a dangerous situation when a wife has to leave her dangerous disbelieving husband.

I can read the Quranic Arabic and I am not your typical "Westerner" and I live in the Middle-East, so you got both wrong.
Kafir is not at all equal to non-muslim. Muslim is not even a sectarian name tag, it is a descriptive word for a person who is sound (rather than broken). Zalimeen is people wandering in darkness literally, doing actions qualifying for such, marking they are not sound.
The reason why I said criminal about kafir is because these people distort things, cover things up. A kafir does more than merely disbelieve if this is what you are going at. No reason for GOD to be in full-out fury because people disbelieve. GOD could care less. These people are also al-zalimeen (in darkness).
So a kafir could be counted under the general al-zalimeen. Their "crime" is not traditional "disbelief" but there is more to it. They corrupt things. It is important to notice the Arabic does not add the attribution prefix on zalameen meaning it is less of a attributable label and just saying "be wrongdoing (dark) ones" or do wrong (dark) in English.
The passage you inquired about prohibits women to become married to insincere and particularly liars. Kafar is clearly an action based on the grammar and it is just ridiculous if you translate it as "disbelieve". The etymology points down to a person who tills/farms the land and it means to grow something by placing seeds. In its negative meaning it would connote that you distort something because you throw your dirt at something and likely lie (ب about it as the Quran often says in conjunction. You work towards corruption. You can do it intentionally or in ignorance. The ignorant by falsely advocating an incorrect faith, but it is the intentional inventors GOD is pissed off about in Quran who have caused people to adhere to this garbage out there such as hadith of Muhammad.
You should think about kafar's etymological meaning of tilling the land and placing seeds. When you do such you cover that land and it can be seen as growing falsehood under the right context like disinformation.

Peace Man of Faith,
It is unwise to marry such a person. Applies to men too. However, if you just read the Surah you will see that their marriages were already over. The verse is not at all talking about who to avoid for marriage.
Sectarians have misused this verse to break many families -[
That's why we need to be clearer.Result of the twisted meaning

I am a new convert to Islam. My husband is a Christian and now I am told we may not stay together. How do I do this? I do not want to hurt him, our children or be alone. We love one another. He hates Islam and will not convert. Please tell me what I can do.-iamnewhttp//www.zawaj.com/askbilqis/i-have-to-divorce-christian-husband/
I've recently converted to Islam. I'm married to an atheist
(for over 20 years), and we have four children (11-19). A few
days ago I learned that under Islamic law I will be divorced
from my husband after three menstrual cycles, which would be
in about two months.I would not mind a divorce for many reasons, but am very much
concerned for the children. My husband is mildly put very upset
about my conversion, and said he would never agree to a divorce.
Also, our finances at the present time would not allow for a
separation.http//www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?58568-Divorce-from-a-non-muslim-husband-after-conversion -
Well that is a tragedy.

A muslim can not marry an unbeliver, which is addressed in this verse
Do not marry idolatresses unless they believe; a believing woman is better than an idolatress, even if you like her. Nor shall you give your daughters in marriage to idolatrous men, unless they believe. A believing man is better than an idolater, even if you like him. These invite to Hell, while GOD invites to Paradise and forgiveness, as He wills.
