    Salam,

I have been invited to Quranic lectures many times by different friends. The lecturers visits western countries and arrange lectures there in different hotels etc. They charge ?20-?200 for a lecture/series of lectures.

My question is that when money is the motivator for these lecturer to teach us about Quran do we "Have to" listen to them? sometimes they use phrases like "invest for your Jannah".

I have read an Ayah in Quran talking about people who take money for Quranic teaching and Allah has asked us to stay away from these people. Anyone know what that Ayah is?

What do you all think about spending money on listening to these type of lectures?

    Thanks

I don't know about charging money for teaching the Quran. Perhaps it totally depends on what work etc the lecturer put into it to give extra value.

However, we absolutely are not compelled to visit such lectures. You don't have to listen. You are obviously totally free not to attend. Don't fall for the fear-tactics. The marketing uses our fear to get our money. Nobody can guarantee an "investment in Janna".

      Peace

        Salaam,

Read the Quranic verse 23 of chapter 42 (Ash-Shuraa as it's titled). The prophet did not ask payment for God's message. The people who try and profit from such endeavors are likely frauds. Investing in your after life is up to your good deeds and forgiveness from The Merciful.

It seems they have turned the faith into a business venture. Not sure what they talk about though since I never visited one and I probably never will either. If I personally ever will teach to the public I will not do it charging people.

          Salaam

They usually talk about social issues, sometimes they chose a specific topic like Dawah. I have listened to few of these lectures on YouTube. I just am not convinced to pay money to hear about Allah because motivation for these people is not the betterment of h7man beings but the money.

The motivation is money PLUS to impose their own religion and culture onto some gullible "Westerners" who are seeking for meaning in life.

What do you think about Ayah 316 "But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path) for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty."

What are these idle tales, do you think it would come in this category?

                    Salaam abeer,

It might come into this category. If what is being lectured, is strictly God's revelations, then I wouldn't think so.

But once you start mixing in man made stories and legends not from God, those are idle tales. Purchase in this verse may not necessarily mean to buy by paying money - but it can too, depending on what the case is.

Think of some everyday statements - "Ah I didn't buy his theory on relativity." that's how I think the sentence is formed - reading it at first glance.

But it applies equally in the other sense too.

Anyway, just commenting a little more on the subject of this thread, there are ways to guess what the intentions of any lecturer is. Though this is a hypothetical situation, assuming of course that the lecturer is NOT preaching anything that goes against God's teachings (this includes any man written stories), if the lecturer were to show that all the expenses amounted to arrangement payments and that there is no profit being made, it would be alright, I'd say, to go ahead and pay to listen to that lecture. But the question is Why? Why go to x,y or z when you have the Quran? If a messenger, or a prophet were amongst us, yes, it makes sense, but since this is not the case, why not read the Quran for yourself?

May the Peace and Blessings of God be upon you

Why would you ask money for preaching the word of God?

If they fill there pockets with that money, i would suggest you to stay away from them.

Try to read the quran for urself instead !

                        Peace

Such lectures cannot be made interesting without adding some stories to it. My problem is that I cannot tolerate any baseless story specially when it contradicts directly with Quran. When earning money is the motive the lecturer try to make his lecture as interesting as possible thus creating drama and stories in it, that is the main reason I don't want to pollute my mind by attending these lectures specially after paying money. Most women I know go to such lectures and they push me to join them too. I really don't know what to say to them so keep quite

Tell those women the truth when they ask you the next time to go with them to those places, that would be honest and a good deed.

May God guide the human race.
