Paying money to attend Quranic Lectures?

What do you think about Ayah 316 "But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path) for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty."
What are these idle tales, do you think it would come in this category?

It might come into this category. If what is being lectured, is strictly God's revelations, then I wouldn't think so.
But once you start mixing in man made stories and legends not from God, those are idle tales. Purchase in this verse may not necessarily mean to buy by paying money - but it can too, depending on what the case is.
Think of some everyday statements - "Ah I didn't buy his theory on relativity." that's how I think the sentence is formed - reading it at first glance.
But it applies equally in the other sense too.
Anyway, just commenting a little more on the subject of this thread, there are ways to guess what the intentions of any lecturer is. Though this is a hypothetical situation, assuming of course that the lecturer is NOT preaching anything that goes against God's teachings (this includes any man written stories), if the lecturer were to show that all the expenses amounted to arrangement payments and that there is no profit being made, it would be alright, I'd say, to go ahead and pay to listen to that lecture. But the question is Why? Why go to x,y or z when you have the Quran? If a messenger, or a prophet were amongst us, yes, it makes sense, but since this is not the case, why not read the Quran for yourself?

Read the Quranic verse 23 of chapter 42 (Ash-Shuraa as it's titled). The prophet did not ask payment for God's message. The people who try and profit from such endeavors are likely frauds. Investing in your after life is up to your good deeds and forgiveness from The Merciful.

Bold I think they are not 'likely' frauds. In my opinion, they are indeed frauds.

Such lectures cannot be made interesting without adding some stories to it. My problem is that I cannot tolerate any baseless story specially when it contradicts directly with Quran. When earning money is the motive the lecturer try to make his lecture as interesting as possible thus creating drama and stories in it, that is the main reason I don't want to pollute my mind by attending these lectures specially after paying money. Most women I know go to such lectures and they push me to join them too. I really don't know what to say to them so keep quite
