    Peace be upon you,

I am very satisfied with the Timing that Ayman has presented using the signs from the God. But I am still not satisfied with the METHOD, or should I say I am not sure WHAT EXACTLY we abstain from.

The God says that abstaining was decreed on us as those before us, and the examples in the reading only show people abstaining from speaking for three days.

How does this all tie in?

      Peace brother Kyle,

Perhaps the first question to ask is what is the purpose of abstinence?

Please let me know what you think the purpose is.

      Peace and all best wishes,

      Ayman

          Peace,

We can only conjecture. The Koran simply asks us to do it because it is good for us. Who knows? God knows.

            Salaam,

            2187

2187 It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives. They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you. So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread . Then complete the fast until the sunset. And do not have relations with them as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques. These are the limits Allah , so do not approach them. Thus does Allah make clear His ordinances to the people that they may become righteous.

This is enough proof to understand what we have to refrain from.

What could be purpose of "Hatta " for eating and drinking in the above aayat.

May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

What do you think the purpose is?

              1. O you who believe, the abstinence has been decreed for you like it was decreed for those before you, perhaps you may be forethoughtful.
              2. A few days and if any of you is ill or traveling, then (abstain) a count of different days; and as for those who can do it with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you abstain it is better for you if you knew.
              3. A scorching full moon is when the reading was descended as a guidance for people and clarifications from the guidance and the criterion, so whomever witnesses the full-moon, let him abstain it. And whomever was sick or traveling so a count of other days. The god wants to facilitate and not make it hard on you. And so complete the count and magnify the god for what he has guided you and perhaps you would be thankful.

It seems like the purpose is to be forethoughtful. Notice also the emphasis on "guidance". After experiencing this whole process of trying to be guided to the right understanding of the timing, the purpose of thanking the god for his guidance became clear to me.

It is hard to explain but when the whole picture comes together, it is so amazing. Just think about it. One is guided to a better understanding based on the great reading that ties when the great reading was sent down to fasting through a timing that is intricate and not easy to figure out except by pondering on the great reading and the signs of the god in the universe and no way based on tradition and blind following. 2185 has a much deeper meaning than one would think at first glance.

Thank the god the lord of the worlds,

              Ayman

What word in arabic is "full moon" ?

The word "shahr" according to Classical Arabic dictionaries means "full-moon"

                    Translation
Shahr The moon, which was called this due to it being famous and apparent. And it was said ("shahr" means) when (the moon) is apparent and nearly full.

                            .

Yes you are right but the word BADR is not in verse 2185

also BADR can be found in verse 3124 does it really mean "full moon"

                            let's try
Allah had helped you at Badr, when ye were a contemptible little force; then fear Allah; thus may ye show your gratitude.

You are mixing moder classical arabic and quranic arabic.

Here we go...so mz, what is the abstinence all about? Regale us.

Okay if you like call me mz, now let us call you by something more pleasent then Savage, yes?

And the quistion for Br. Ayman still holds , i think it will clarify some good points.
                                about abstinence.

Let us let him answer,if he chooses not to that is okay as well and there would only be respect for one another.

                                peace

I don't have much Arabic, but from my Khalifa translation it says you can eat and drink until you see the thin thread of light separating the Dawn from the night. That suggests it is food. Of course, the translation may be incorrect. Someone else suggested it was abstain from sex.

                                  Peace,

                                  Dawn.

                                        !
Yousuf Ali O ye who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade by mutual good-will Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves for verily Allah hath been to you Most Merciful!

                                        Salaam,

Every word used in AlQuraan is a common word. This is how we use in our own languages, don't you? We say EAT for food, and also we say EAT for people's money or interest. So, you have to see the context of using any word.

                                        For example you say
A boy can write with his both hands.
You cannot escape from the hands of police.

Such things you will find in AlQuraan also, it is a normal Arabic language. Hope you get my point inshaAllah.

May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr

Okay if you like call me mz, now let us call you by something more pleasent then Savage, yes?

And the quistion for Br. Ayman still holds , i think it will clarify some good points.
                                          about abstinence.

Let us let him answer,if he chooses not to that is okay as well and there would only be respect for one another.

                                          peace

Prickly as ever I see. And yes, it's very pheasant, thanks! As far as eating goes...once again (as on previous occasions), you fail to understand that there is a difference between literal and figurative depending on context even if the words are the same. It's used very similarly in urdu as well, as you know. I'm still waiting for your explanation as to what the abstinence truly means. I doubt bro Ayman has anything radical planned for us on that front thus you are my only hope mz.
