You were twisting the sectarian version of 786

    Surah An-Naba, Verse 6

Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse,
    (English - Yusuf Ali)

Well I have not seen any other translator who does not translate it as expanse.

If you flatten something you make it less rough and smoother.

            dear seekingtruth1111

I will clarify this issue once and for all.

Besides the plane dissapearing from GPS, the "strange" thing that happens on the direct flight from Auckland to Santiago, even if it does not stop to refuel, is that about two thirds of the way through the trip, the airplane will be flying parallel to a land mass which, according to your perspective of what the Earth looks like, should not even exist.

Look at the map of the spherical Earth and tell me if you see any land mass whatsoever between New Zealand and Chile. If this is what the Earth looks like, the trip should be an open ocean flight.

Do me a small favor. The next time you book such a flight, look out your window (or the window on the opposite isle) after you have been flying for about 7-8 hours. I guarantee you that you will see a distant coastline that should not be there. This is the coastline of Central America. If you are flying during the day (which I suspect might not be the case), and the weather is clear, you will see the coastline. If the fight is during the night, you will see the lights even from the airplane. Snap a photo of it (unless you are also going to disbelieve what you are seing through the window).

If you don't see the coastline, I will personally refund the price of your ticket.

            Peace Pazuzu

Will keep that in mind to check for the coast line when I fly next time ).

But how are you so certain that it will pass the central america? If the flight need to follow the flat earth map as you shown it will need to fly pass north and central america as you are claiming. But the flight times dose not add up. Usually Sydney to LA flight takes around 12 to 13 hours. Whereas Sydney to Santiago flight takes 12 hours in Boeing 747-400 .

Btw I have checked the flight tracker today . Both Sydney-Santiago and Auckland-Santiago are tracked and flight path is shown.

A flight from Madrid to Buenos Aires takes approximately 13 hours. 12 hours from Australia to Chile seems about right.

Also, there are flights from Santiago de Chile to Pascua Island which take 5 hours. How long should it take such a flight according to the map of the flat earth shown in the thread?

                Salaam

                  Salam everybody,

There's a verse in the Qur'an that's been bothering me!

                  725

Muhammad Asad (The Message Of Quran)
725 there shall you live" - He added - "and there shall you die, and thence shall you be brought forth !

                  Rashad Khalifa (The Final Testament)
725 He said, "On it you will live, on it you will die, and from it you will be brought out.",

Shabbir Ahmed (Quran As It Explains Itself)
725 He said, "You shall live on earth and die there and be resurrected from there.?

Please read the context; but the verse is clearly implying that humans shall live on earth and die on earth!

The first time I read this verse I remember that I was bothered asking, "What if some astronaut dies on Moon or on Mars?!"

I think this verse is speaking that we humans are earth-bound!

Turn the question around. Where in Quran does it say the Earth is flat?

Reversing the question ain't no answer, sir!

You're simply dodging, because - as far as Qurnic evidence is concerned - you've got naught to prove!

Further, a definite Surah was provided (here)!

                    The Earth was flattened (8820).

How more obvious does it get!?

                    ~ Can you not see!?

And do not use the "flattened" the Earth
because it does not confirm that it is flat but to flatten a surface means to smooth the area when it had obstacles.

                    Negative!

You're digressing , and speculating (as usual)!

s/? denoting flattening is a fact.
If you don't believe - the insignificant - me, ask ANY Arabist!
Or even better, ask ANY learned Arabic speaker what does adj. mean.

                    In Syriac, adj. ? (&#1808 means flat ? also, cf. ? (&#1808 , as well as ? ? (&#1836 .

                      Peace all.

                      The Arabic words used in "1519.2053, 4310, 5007, 51 48, 71 19, 786.." Words like

"Mahd, Mihadan,bissatan... Just means habitable. Your "mahd"/ bed is where you live...( You try and find another habitable planet?)

"Farashnaha" is a similar word your, home where you live has "Farash" ,hence GOD has made the earth a "farash" for us i.e habitable.

"Madadnaha" just means made/constructed over a long period and a planned design.

None of them means "flattened or flat?!!!!!

                      GOD bless you all.
                      Peace.

                        Hicham,

Negative to you too, flatten is not equal to that the whole Earth is flat.

And the word refers to that the area is flattened, evened out and not that it necessarily is in a straight line but too smooth the area. The word also reflects the spreading out of an area as an expanse. By other words, the word cannot be used to claim the Earth to be flat, only that an area is flattened out which everyone probably know what it means. Adding the miim prefix does not change anything except referring to that it already has the attribute.

You could use the word when speaking of using a rolling pin in baking.

Hence I am not speculating but providing perfectly feasible input.

Anything extended on a spherical surface is flatenned. If it does not have bulges or anything, that is, not any bulges that it wouldn't have on a straight plain horizontal surface, then it is flatenned.

On the other hand, the existence of mountains denies the "flat" assertion.

Shabbir Ahmed (Quran As It Explains Itself)
725 He said, "You shall live on earth and die there and be resurrected from there.?

(Allah) said "Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time." (24) He said "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)."

They are being thrown out of the garden. It does not show anywhere that the garden is out of the earth. We must decide what we do with the word "ard". We cannot choose to translate at our own whim as planet or as land. En this two ayas, it seems that the meaning is land. They go out, down into the land, not into the planet and it does say in the aya "for a while" or "up to a time". To me it seems obvious that it is not talking about planet earth but about the land. and that it is apoint not for ever but for a time.

                                  Salaam

So a whole bunch of you strongly believe the Earth is actually flat, a disc at most?

You say that if the Qur'an said the sky was green instead of blue, you would take it to mean the sky is green instead of blue, insisting that the Qur'an is speaking the truth even if your eyes saw something else?

Then I strongly suggest the devils descend on the Qur'an and start messing around with it, because there are some people ready to listen to whatever it might say.

What takes precedence? The interpretation we have of a book, or our strategic reasoning abilities?

I don't hold the Qur'an in such high esteem that if it sprung feet and legs and started dancing and telling me to worship Jesus that I would.

I believe in the Qur'an because it coincides with what I believe ("this book is for those who believe&quot it is not the other way around, that you believe in the book before having the beliefs. If the Qur'an disagreed with what I believe, then I would see if it can be salvaged, and if it couldn't then it would be thrown out.

                                    3918
Those who listen to the word, then follow the best of it; those are they whom Allah has guided, and those it is who are the men of understanding.

Allah can freely manipulate the Qur'an, can change it and make it seem like it always said something that it might not have, can convince anyone of anything, and is the cause of the varied interpretations as well leading whoever Allah wills to whatever Allah wills.

Except that G-D never said "the sky is green"! That's what you say.
Let alone "blue"! That's what you think.

The question was more about, if the Qur'an said something that seemed false, would you believe it? Why?

Would you try to interpret it in a way that makes it seem more true to you? Would you try to leave it as you imagine it is even if it is not in accordance with what you have seen or experienced?

Would you reject the whole Qur'an over it? Would you reject that verse in particular?

In my case, I have not come upon anything in the Qur'an that appears to be false at all, but in the cases of things like this, I interpret those verses in ways that don't make them out to be very important or very different from the reality I am seeing and experiencing.

                                          Indeed.

We must not forget 1736, which tell us not to follow things blindly. Then it is better to not follow anything, than to be a blind follower of something. Also 3918 tells us to select the best of what we hear. This is referring to our attitude... to focus on positives and improvement. It's not talking about absolutes. We all may have different understanding, grasp, insight, wisdom and experience on various topics, but the important thing is to do the best of what we have. Those who backbite and focus on negatives are on the wrong course, no matter how informed or intelligent they are.

We must use our sense and senses, and avoid poisonous suspicion (4912), lest we become blind fools. The world becomes what we make it. We shape out world.

                                          Peace
