22:78 who named us surrender/submitters?
-
Peace all,
2278 Strive hard in Allah?s Cause, with all the striving that is due to Him. It is He Who 1) has elected you to carry the Message and has placed no hardship in religion, the creed of your father Abraham (2143), (228. It is He Who 2) has named you Muslims in the bygone days and now in this Revelation. That the Messenger may be a witness for you, and you be witnesses for all mankind! (You shall be the watchers over peoples that no community oppresses the other). So, establish the Divine System and set up the Just Economic Order, and hold fast unto Allah. He is your Lord Supreme, and how excellent is this Giver of support!
Wajahidoo fee Allahi haqqa jihadihi huwa 1) ijtabakum wama jaAAalaAAalaykum fee alddeeni min harajin millata abeekumibraheema huwa 2) sammakumu almuslimeena min qablu wafee hatha liyakoona alrrasoolu shaheedanAAalaykum watakoonoo shuhadaa AAala alnnasifaaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakatawaiAAtasimoo biAllahi huwa mawlakumfaniAAma almawla waniAAma alnnaseeru
I think the article huwa / It is He Who in the two sentences 1) and 2) refers to Allah
-
huwa has elected you to carry the Message and has placed no hardship in religion
-
huwa has named you Muslims in the bygone days and now in this Revelation.
Consequently, It is the God He who named us surrenders/submitters in the bygone days and now in this Revelation.
Looking for your view
Thanks

Peace be upon you Marie,
Yes, it is the God who teached "adam" (man) all of the DESCRIPTIONS of things. Mankind takes it further and organizes some of these descriptions into names.
The God described us as submitters, but humans made the description a TITLE.

Exactly!
Brother Ayman explains well the difference between common names and proper name in the light of the quran

Peace,
Yes! Consider this isra-el ?captured of God. Musa was isra /captured by God (171). He was not seeking guidance, he was chosen and captured by God for the mission. Bani Israel, children of the captured of God. I believe these are all common nouns and descriptions.

Peace be upon you Grourself,

I disagree, the God does not "capture" people, he does not force His system on the people. We are free to choose. Why do you translate "isra" as captured? I have it as journey. We all CHOOSE to take the path towards the God. Some will get to a level where they want to turn back, like Jonah, but we should never turn back after we have been guided.
It is not the "chosen" people but the "choosing" people.
-
Peace Idol,
Why do you translate "isra" as captured?
This word is found in other places (867) to mean "captive or to take control". Unlike Ibrahim and Mohammad ? Moses did not search for the guidance ? but since God had specifically chosen him ? He took control of Moses at the right time to show him the Signs.

Salaams Grourself,

Peace,
Thanks Mz, as is your effort with khizir. It is as always a joint effort. I am convinced that together we will find the truth if we seek it with sincere hearts. The great reading is it's own lexicon and tafsir. God has said His deen will prevail. There are many words like Jibril, jabara=powerful, jibril=God's powerful, a common noun.
