Dahaha does NOT mean ostrich egg in the Quran.

Out of 6236 verses of the Quran, there is not one, which specifically mentions the shape of the earth as a sphere. Some Muslims claim "dahaha" means "ostrich egg" in Surah 7930. Thankfully there are Muslims who refute these other Muslims on this gross misinterpretation, evidence below

    http//en.islamtoday.net/node/667

In conclusion, this word "dahaha" conveys ONE concept in the Arabic, that of spreading, leveling, flattening, and smoothing out. It does NOT mean ostrich egg.

        Hi javalatte,

I appreciate your honesty, the post is only for those who claim the Quran discusses a spherical earth.

The Qur'an does not say whther it is sphere or an egg shape or a disc shape. And the spreading, obviously means so that animals, plants and people can live on it and the spreading can take place on a spherical surface just as on a one plane surface. That has been discussed ad nauseam. And also it must not be confused the earth as a planet and the earth as an element.

Tht the earth is not gflat is obvious, there are mountains and under the sea there are tremendous abysses.

Who in this forum, according to you shas said that the Qur'an "discusses" the spehrical shape. If you say people here have said that please quote.

          Salaam

You claim intellectual honesty but your conclusion is nothing of the sort. Since this word is used only once in Quran it is not possible to conclude it can only mean one thing. Classical Arabic dictionaries provide several meanings.

Hi wakas, nice to hear from you.

I said it has one concept, at least we agree it does not mean ostrich egg.
Your missing my overall conclusion about the shape of the earth in the Quran. Allah reveals 6236 verses and not one specifically mentions the scientific shape of the earth. If the Quran did, without being contended, then it could be included as a proof text from the divine, but it doesn't.

I don't appreciate your honesty though Nonmushrik. Why do you waste your time here trying to enlighten these people with Christianity and then Atheism? Can you justify your work here at all? "Bored" is a sufficient answer.

                  Shalom Aleikhem Wakas,

I am not entirely sure as to what you point is. I'm a bit confused. What do you think is a justifiable interpretation? Based on this verse alone, I cannot confirm or deny anything. All I can say for sure that if the author did know that the earth is like a globe, he/she didn't try to convey that message with this verse for sure.

Ever go to the top of a sky scraper and observe the shape of earth's land?

Therefore the translation should look like this
The land after that, He made it like an egg.

                        Shalom Aleikhem,

Given the size of the planet earth, how would you see any significant curvature from that height? I am referring to sky scraper heights.

P.S. Not everyone is educated in basic mathematics. You can and people have estimated even the curvature of the earth with mathematics alone. Forget mathematics, you can deduce the curvature by observing distant objects. What we see is not consistent with a flat earth model. You can actually relay signals through satellites, which we do, and validate that the satellites are on either sides of earth. All the calculations that we do for gravitational forces for the planet are based on the spheroid planet model.

If you get high enough, you'll realize that the earth isn't flat but a little curvy, so yeah it isn't flat.

I don't think we have buildings tall enough for us to see a noticeable curvature of the Earth from.

I always found the "watching a ship from the sea shore" example the simplest but most convincing one. I mean, even if you use the most powerful telescope to watch the ship, you still see the ship disappearing from the bottom-up!

It's also a disgrace that we have such lunatics here using the technology we have today to tell us about how the principles behind the mathematics and physics that went to build this technology is wrong and their uneducated and ill-informed guesses are correct. I know I'll come across rude for saying this but for the love of God! How can people be this dumb! Sounds like the only observation they did was to just look around and be like "looks kinda flat to me! Must be flat".

Yeah, right. I mean, when did we ever learn the truth from objective rational scientific inquiry, right? I mean, thousands of years worth of TESTABLE/VERIFIABLE knowledge in that field should just be just thrown away in the hope of God just telling you the answer.

The alleged curvature of the earth is supposed to be obvious at 60,000 ft high.

Yet, FLAT is how the earth looks like when 120,000 ft up in the sky !

                                          Go back to sleep.
