I am English. I have lived in England my entire life and have travelled extensively across it. I don't need articles on the internet to tell me what my country is like. I will leave that to people like you who have never travelled to Europe yet make assumptions about how wonderful it is. We are not without our problems.

I made no assumption about your fascination with my part of the world. You expressed that quite clearly in your last post by gushing about Europe.

I'm sorry Taro Hiroshi, but you're wrong in stating that es's 'assumptions' are incorrect, her general claims are true and completely reasonable to say. Due to endless streams of propaganda most people in non-Western countries believe that the West is the land and milk and honey and when they get here they get a big shock.

The only real thing that keeps anyone here is the stability and economic benefits that gives, most expatriate communities living in the UK, when making lots of money (such as Poles, Indians, Pakistanis, Africans and Arabs) will spend considerable resources going back to their homeland, and even maintaining residence in their homeland (if it hasn't been bombed to smithereens).

I am someone who has lived in 5 major UK cities as well as 2 other non-Western countries and who has also travelled extensively and I would have to back up what es and imrankhawaja say.

Diversity? We have serious issues with "diversity". This evening, I had to intervene when a bunch of young ruffians threw a ball at a Muslim woman's face outside a supermarket. They then proceeded in sticking their fingers up at her and swearing at her. Diversity is nothing without acceptance and respect.

Well, I said that I think the history of UK is interesting. And you suggested that there is nothing interesting about the history of UK (in one of your post). And since I disagreed with your view, I decided to share an article about Britain. I am completely aware of the fact that Britain has a dark past/history. And I haven't denied this fact at all. But I don't think that Britain's history is completely dark. Because Britain has contributed a lot to the world. And that's why I think Britain's history is interesting. I think it is prudent to show both sides of Britain's history (both the positive and the negative). Because Britain's history is not completely dark/negative. Striving to be objective, is a must IMO.

I will leave that to people like you who have never travelled to Europe yet make assumptions about how wonderful it is. We are not without our problems.

How do you know for sure that I have never traveled to Europe? Are you all-knowing? Do you have any evidence that supports your claim? For all you know, I might have traveled to Europe in the past. And for all you know, I might have lived in a European country for several years. So once again, you are making an assumption about me. And once again, your assumption is not based on facts/truth/reality.

Also, I acknowledge the fact that Europe is not without problems. In my view, no country is perfect. And no country is without problems. I think there are both positive and negative things in all countries. This is a fact that I have never denied and never will deny.

The fact is that you made an assumption. Because in your post you wrote that it seems that I have an idealized view on Europe. And since your assumption contradicts the information in one of my earlier posts, your assumption was not based on facts/truth/reality.

I think those who live in the UK should be grateful for the opportunities they have in their country. There are many people who are willing to risk their lives in order to come/move to Europe (and especially to a country like the UK). Just look at all the refugees (Afghans, Iraqis, Syrians, Iranians, Albanians, Nigerians, Somalians) that are coming to Europe these days. Do you think they are coming to Europe because the socio-economic reality is harsher in Europe than in their own countries? Do you think they are coming to Europe by chance/coincidence? Or do you think they are coming to Europe because they know that there are better opportunities in Europe than in their own countries? You should ponder upon these questions.

The truth is that most people who come/move to Europe don't move back to their homelands. Only a minority of those who come/move to Europe, move back to their homelands. Why does only a minority of those who come/move to Europe, move back to their homelands? You should ask yourself this question and ponder upon it.

I think it is easy to complain about the negative/bad things in the country one is residing in (especially if one has lived in a European country ones entire life). If a person has lived in a European country all of his/her life, then he/she might take the opportunities she has in Europe for granted. But if he/she had lived in Pakistan, Haiti, Philippines or Thailand for one 1 year, then he/she would understand that the reality in Europe (especially the UK) is not that harsh compared to the above-mentioned countries. And he/she would understand that Europe has a lot of opportunities compared to those countries. And then he/she would become grateful for being able to live in Europe. And he/she would no longer take the opportunities he/she has in Europe for granted. It seems that a lot of people complain about the bad/negative things in Europe. But for some reason, few people seem to be willing to move back to their homelands. You should ask yourself why this is so.

Personally, I consider myself to be a positive/optimistic person. And I prefer to focus on the good/positive things in the country I am residing in. I dislike to focus on the negative/bad things in the country I am residing in. Because it seems that by focusing on problems one can never solve them. It seems that in order to solve problems, one must focus on solutions. Hence it seems that it is a good/intelligent decision to become a solution-oriented man/woman. The truth is that it is easy to complain about the socio-economic reality in the country one is residing in. As a saying goes, "Talk is cheap." You see, anyone can complain about something. And anyone can condemn something. It takes almost no effort to complain. It takes almost no effort to condemn. So it is easy to complain about the negative/bad things in the country one is residing in. And it is easy to make excuses and adopt a victim-mentality. But it is hard to take responsibility. And it is hard to strive to change things for the better. And it takes a brave heart and true struggle to make a difference in the country one is residing in. There is a quote by John F. Kennedy which goes like this

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
