ARABIC LEXICONS
-
I think this is a general question or issue, I am still confused about categories. I do not mind if they are moved accordingly, but anyway I believe this fits in this category.
A lot of us are not expert Arabic speakers or readers, so there is a big demand for the usage of english-arabic dictionaries/lexicons.
Have there been efforts in the past from members to translate Classic Arabic Lexicons such as Taj Al Aroos, Lisan Al Arab and Qamoos Al Muhit into the English language?I am not even sure if what I am asking is a conceivable endeavor, but I think it would be extraordinarily beneficial to non-Arabic speakers to have access to these Classic Arabic Lexicons.
It would in my opinion better eliminate the middleman hurdle of relying on translated interpretation to a certain point.
I am aware that whoever would be translating these lexicons would also have their own biases or distinct interpretation but the amount of examples and illustrations in these lexicons would work against the possibility of their translation deviating from the original meaning. What do the members think about the issuing or funding for a project which would actualize this dream??
Let me hear your opinions please
Thank you

Group funding is a good idea.
However I'd only recommend doing the roots that are in Quran first and foremost.
Making sure this is not going on elsewhere, so as not to duplicate efforts.
Getting a rough cost in place.
And you'd probably need a 2nd translator/team to check it once done, or put it online once done, so anyone can check it and provide feedback.
We group funded the scanning of Lane's Lexicon ~10yrs ago

http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=10338.0That was a very meritorious effort. I congratulate once more the participants in all the projects done by free-minds, they deserve all praise and thanks.
