    Hello. Newbie here.

So, I haven't really been "religious" in awhile. Grew up in a spin off Christian religion, and saw my way out of it shortly after becoming an adult. I'm now 23 and, while I still believe in God, have yet to come to the conclusion that I must live a Christian life. Especially when I see so much hate being spread in the name of Christianity. I also had trouble with the fact that Christianity split God into three different, and equal, beings - yet still claiming that there is only one God. Last I checked, for there to be three equal beings, that would make three gods. Just an illogical thought.

Lately, I've been feeling as if I need to bring God back into my life. However, I already know that Christianity is off the table because it doesn't seem logically sound.

A while back, I remember looking into Islam. Granted, I never quite got into it as I didn't understand why the mainstream sects were so adamant about the Qur'an needing to be supplemented by other books that would make most of the Qur'an null and void. Last I checked, God shouldn't need to go back and correct himself. But, I remember finding this site, and it made sense to me.

After learning that there are those who believe that the Qur'an is all that is needed, and that none of it was ever abrogated by God, I began to understand how logical it sounded to me. My brain could comprehend this book, and it's teachings. My brain understood that, when the Bible is put into context with the Qur'an, Jesus wasn't God, but another prophet. My brain understood the fundamental teaching that there is only one God. It also made sense to me that Islam is a religion of peace, not of violence.

Granted, I never got into it all that much, and just kinda drifted through life for a little while. Until now, when things have finally become peaceful enough for me to think and reflect. Today was the day that I decided it was time to acknowledge that there is only one God, and that Muhammad was truly his messenger, and that the Qur'an is the final testament.

So, consider this my declaration of faith. And I pray that God will guide me, and that you all will be able to help me to understand as well.

    EDIT

For instance, this is something that makes me believe that the Qur'an teaches peace.

58 - 9 "O you who believe, stand for God and be witnesses for justice, and let not the hatred towards a people make you avoid being just. Be just, for it is closer to righteousness, and be aware of God. God is expert over what you do. God has promised those who believe and do right that they will have forgiveness and a great reward."

Enter this forum if Allah wills safely.
You and I seem to have similar backgrounds perhaps you are one of the brothers I have been waiting for.

Allah has been Most Kind to me in my journey.
If you remain firm in your faith without any alteration and keep repenting and seeking God's forgiveness, He will God willing increase you.
My advice is to remain firm on the Quran entirely, be patient over whatever befalls you, remain grateful to God always, avoid entertaining doubt, participate competitively in the working of righteous deeds that please God, avoid those who mock God's words and reject in a kind manner.
Pray constantly and remember God much.

For this forum beware of conflicting ideas, derailing interjections, confusion and little unison.
If you are in the beginning stages I would recommend solidifying your faith by completing The Reading independently through prayer first.
A lot of opinions here could turn you biased in your interpreting of the Scripture.

I am of the sincere advisors to you

If you'd like to contact me or have someone to discuss things with feel free to PM me if Allah so wills I will try to be of support for you
Also if you want to hear about our similar stories PM me

      Surprised others haven't welcomed yet...
Anyway, again welcome, beware and stand firm

      Peace
      sun

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu brother. May Peace be upon you, as well as the Blessings and Mercy of God .

It is always great to welcome a new member to the forum. This is a great forum with many knowledgeable and respectful people from all walks of life.

I am always interested to meet Christians who have come to Islam, they always seem to have a very logical reason for their decision. Similarly and somewhat differently, I came from an Atheist family and upbringing, most of whom still remain as such; alas, God guides who He wills; however, I personally found the logical approach adopted in the language of the Qur'an a welcome relief after reading virtually every other sacred text I could get my hands on before finally coming to the Qur'an.

I am glad to meet another brother that not only recognizes the Truth in the Qur'an, but also recognizes the Falsehood that riddles Western Propaganda outlets, the so-called "news" agencies. Indeed, the more they try to paint Islam with a false color, more people flock to reading the book for themselves to discover how wrong the media and the Takfiri (ISIS and the like) version of Islam is; only someone who is hellbent on oppression would ever interpret the Qur'an in the way these people claim.

I applaud your bravery, insight, questioning, and logical thinking Sir.

May God Bless you in your journey.

        Peace.

Welcome, and congratulations for having been able to stick to your conscience inyour search. It is the first condition to achieve truth , to not cheat oneself.

As you say Qur'an is the last word.

But it is also de first word. God has always been very consistent in revelation. He did not reveal something that was true at one time, and thenn came back adapting another time. But the Qur'an is the compact revelation that serves as a contrast to know when some purported revelation is authentic or it is not when we are confronted with texts that re said to be revealed. Since God has always revealed Himself to humans, we know that all people have had revelations, but that those revelations have come down uncorrupted or unchanged is something else. The Qur'an makes light on that.

I was a cahtolic by birth too, but I came to tell myself what kind of Gos is that that in order to forgive needs to sacrifice "a son of his" and if not cannot forgive. The original sin and all that.

With time I have arrived at spiritual rationalisations of those tenets of christianity coming to consider them some symbolical language, and as such I find they they make sense, but it all breaks when it is subordinated to a historical event or a historical man whose definition is not a symbol but a real man.

          Welcome

          Salaam

Thank you so much for the warm welcome everyone! D

I sincerely appreciate the motivation to stay with it and I believe that, God willing, I shall.

Man of Faith, yes there certainly is a lot to learn. And I am excited to learn.

good logic, thank you for the URL. Seems to be a valuable resource, and brings about a good reminder. I particularly like "Follow your natural instinct" and the fact that we are encouraged to use our brains as apposed to blindly following.

                  EDIT

By chance what translations does everyone use? I've currently got The Message, but I understand that there are a couple other English translation tied to this site. Curious as to which one would be the best.
