    Peace all,

How should we understand "kalimat" in the following verses? as words or laws ?

    1. And if all the trees on Earth were made into pens, and the ocean were supplied by seven more oceans, the words of God would not run out. God is Noble, Wise.
Walaw annama fee al-ardi minshajaratin aqlamun waalbahru yamudduhu minbaAAdihi sabAAatu abhurin ma nafidat kalimatu Allahi inna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun

The same word is translated as commands in 2124.

6612 And Mary, daughter of Imran, who guarded her modesty (in very adverse circumstances. She revolted against the non-Divine institution of monasticism, and got married adopting the natural family life). And We breathed into her (baby) something from Our Energy (free will, as We do to all human beings (230)). And she put faith in the Commands and Laws (kalimati) of her Lord, and was of the obedient.

    as agreement, understanding in 364

as the Decisions, Laws and Words in 634

as His Words and His Laws in 6115

    as The Commands (7137)

1019 All mankind were but one community (and are meant to be so); then they differed (2213). Had not your Lord decreed the Law of free will for humans, He would have judged their disputes immediately (230), (2256), (1111, (169), (762-3).

Wama kana alnnasuilla ommatan wahidatan faikhtalafoo walawla kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laqudiya baynahum feemafeehi yakhtalifoona

    ...

    Thanks

      Peace sister Marie,

Word/s does seem appropriate in the examples u have posted...I would take 1019 to mean had God not already said the word/already decided how things are going to be... instead of the law of free will as that just does not make sense in the verse (we had a long discussion about free will and choice not so long back )...it makes more sense that we have a time limit during which we are given opportunities to prove ourselves, this limit being already decreed by God...and thats why everything doesn't happen immediately as one would wish...patience is a virtue afterall...

Now whether the word 'word/s' have multiple meanings depending on the context used is a interesting question and is most likely possible of course but that doesn't change the basic meaning of the word i think...

I'm sorry if i didn't understand the question properly...

In 3127, I think the word kalima is rich in meanings. The quran is composed from words. When the God says "be and it is", be is also a word but not a simple word..
Idem for "cast it down" in 2019.

In these divine words, there is as a code or a divine breath. The God's words and His creation are closely connected.

        ...

        Peace
        Marie

            May I add this

            1. God erases what He wishes and affirms, and with Him is the source of the Scripture.

I think 18109 and 3127 could describe the source of the Scripture which contains all decrees, laws, decisons....etc.

18109 Say, "If all the sea were ink for my Sustainer?s Words, the sea would indeed be exhausted before my Sustainer?s Words are exhausted! And thus it would be if We were to add to it sea upon sea.? (3127).

3127 And if all the trees on earth were pens, and the sea were ink, with seven more seas yet added, the Words of Allah would not be exhausted (18109). Verily, Allah is Almighty, Wise.

This is a quantity of information and knowledge which surpass our imaginary and intellect.

            Glory be to my Lord!

May the God grants us mercy from Him and teach us knowledge from Him.

              Peace sister Marie,

Indeed, yes... i agree with this understanding...I also had something to ask you...Do you not find the words in bold interesting?

              1. God erases what He wishes and affirms, and with Him is the source of the Scripture.

Would like to discuss any understanding regarding the above in the big scheme of things!

              Best regards,

              Nadia

                Dear savage_carrot and Marie!

I was about to give my point of view on this qustion of Marie's as I saw that you already agreed with my belief. So now I'm only typing to say that I perfectly agree on what you seem to have agreed on this matter. 😉

                  Salaam,

I doubt there is a 'be' and it is. I do not think it makes sense. I don't recall alquran advocating such a method either.

                  Joe

I'd like to ask you the same questions

My questions to you are - can you encompass God's system?

Do you have perfect knowledge of God's system?

                    Thanks

The lecture advocates MANY a method that might seem obscure at first sight.
I do think that this describes in a simple way the way God's words and the law are the same. After all, there's no such thing as literally "words of God", right?

                          Agree.

Words in a literal meaning are for human.

1124 And there is none that could be comparable unto Him."

...although "be and it is" is (as far as I know) not typed down into the lecture, it is my destinct belief that such thinking is a very fine exemple of what the word "isl?m" really means. That is to settle with how the creation of God works and that it is NOT separated from ourselves but in our minds.
