there are lot of verses on charity .....but almost all sects forget this verses or prefer to forget them

this is actual Islam .if only 10% of the rich Muslims start following the charity pattern of quran then i doubt there will any poverty left in the world

i used to wonder scholars when they talk about riba ..for example ...bilal Philips used to come here (Chennai) in executive class air ticket after staying in five star hotel suite gives the fatwa " riba is haram ".that too in the luxurious five star conference room where he used to conduct his workshop .

pl don't waste your money ....do charity on individual level

Okay Brother, local charity is probably better then

      Look at this ayaat brother,
      960

Innama alssadaqatu lilfuqara-i waalmasakeeni waalAAamileena AAalayha waalmu-allafati quloobuhum wafee alrriqabi waalgharimeena wafee sabeeli Allahi waibni alssabeeli fareedatan mina Allahi waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Only the charities (are) for the poor, and the needy and al-amilina/b], and the ones inclined their hearts, and in the (freeing of) the necks, and for those in debt and in (the) way (of) Allah, and the wayfarer - an obligation from Allah. And Allah (is) All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Amilina=Ayn-Miim-Lam = to do/make/act/work/operate/perform/construct/manufacture, practice a handcraft, be active, one who does.

We know the usage of al-amilina in Quran refers generally to the workers of righteous deeds.
So in the context of charity being for those who work deeds of righteousness one could gather either of two things

      1. Some of the charities are also for those who strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives i.e. workers of righteous deeds

      2. Some of the charities can been entrusted to those who strive in the way of Allah and work deeds of righteousness to manage them and deliver them to the recipients.

Which of the two you think is more consistent with the Quran brother? Or do you think there is another interpretation?

I think you are generalizing too much here otherwise i misunderstood you

        • is active participle noun here (active participle male plural genitive noun)
meaning those who work or to collect as per this context

if this generally refers to righteous deeds
        2.139

Say, , "Do you argue with us about Allah while He is our Lord and your Lord? For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. And we are sincere to Him."

there is difference between the our deeds and the deeds of non believers

        verse 5.90

O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, stone alters , and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.

the same righteous deeds cannot be applied here

So in the context of charity being for those who work deeds of righteousness one could gather either of two things

        1. Some of the charities are also for those who strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives i.e. workers of righteous deeds

I never bang my head on the wall in interpretation of quranic ayah with regards to the translations .i trust all the prominent translators .initially i was referring picktall then i switch over to yusuf Ali now i am satisfied with mohsin khan or shaih international .i belive non of the translators will play the fool with the kalam of ALLAH subhanavatala so my simple interpretation is
        Verse 9.60( sahih intl)
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect and for bringing hearts together and for freeing captives and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the traveler - an obligation by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.

        Verse 9.60 (Mohsin Khan )
        60. As-Sadaq?t (here it means Zak?t) are only for the Fuqar?' (poor), and Al-Mas?kin (the poor) and those employed to collect (the funds); and for to attract the hearts of those who have been inclined (towards Isl?m); and to free the captives; and for those in debt; and for All?h's Cause (i.e. for Muj?hid?n - those fighting in the holy wars), and for the wayfarer (a traveller who is cut off from everything); a duty imposed by All?h. And All?h is All-Knower, All-Wise.

Got you makes sense if you know them. OH UNRWA, I have heard of it! Thank you for disclosing with me.
Though, sister Allah never said to not speak about them. It is permissible, it is just that keeping it secret is better.
So do not be uncomfortable, you are a wonderful person who believes firmly, and Allah would never let your deeds go to waste.
Thank you so much for still sharing with me despite being worried about approaching a limit!

No problem my brother. I am aware of the verses, but I have trouble keeping things in the stomach especially when it comes to giving detailed explanations, lol ;D

What do you think about the idea of becoming a benefactor for an orphan? I have always thought it has great potentials to help someone become fit to face the world.

pl don't believe in trust or organization ..it is your hard earn money so always ensure that it goes to the correct people . i remember a verse about how to give charity in quran

Not all organizations are out to defraud people.

always prefer to do personally never throw your responsibility on others

How will HP travel to devastated place frequently to do his charity? Of course, he can choose the locals like the homeless people, but our city governments already spend a huge amount of time on them. In meetings, they are the main topic. And despite the fact that everyone is willing to do so much for them they remain a puzzle. Are they truly too poor to afford a place or there is something else going on? When I used to stay in motels during my travelling days for research projects I noticed that many of the people there were day time homeless. One room per night can cost as high as $60. How on earth did they afford it everyday if they were truly poor? There is a lot of debate going on whether to help the homeless. It has turned into an ethical issue for those who give away money to them. Conclusion drawn usually is that those people are homeless by choice or that they are mentally sick because they actually look quite healthy and sometimes obese. Some helpers were disappointed to find out that their money was being used on alcohol and drugs. So doing the charity personally puts us more at risk of getting deceived.

The ones who need the most help are the college students. But majority of them would rather live eating 70 cents noodles than talking about their financial crisis. Much of it has to do with self respect. They don't like to believe they are poor.

I just wanted to demonstrate to you that the Quran is mentioning as you have also attested giving zakah to those who collect and organize it besides all the other mentioned beneficiaries. Hence charity groups.
I think it is just important for us in the case we are seeking to donate to a charity to investigate as you have investigated Dr. Naik's charity. That's all I wanted to show, because you advised me to only give in person, which is not a bad advice, but giving to charities is also mentioned.

            Peace brother

I think that would be a very good thing. This way, you can have direct correspondence with the beneficiary of the charity organization and monitor their progression and like you said lend them positive influence and mentorship.
It is a good thing, for someone who is financially stable, it is a real commitment!
The only thing that tears my heart is "choosing" which orphan to become your beneficiary.

Great idea! I have been thinking about it, now I think I will plan on doing it.

              Peace

                Peace brother

I think you did not read my thread here
                http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9608310.0
I was in bit haste while starting this thread .i had a feeling that your post at http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9608276.msg384615#msg384615 was incomplete .but i waited for a day ,since there was no replay from you so i started this new thread .lol, i wasted a thread .ok any way i will modulate the same thing in different way after few days

i told the same thing with a different verse .you are using Verse 9.60 but i used
                Verse 9.103
Take, , from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
                Verse 9.58
And among them are some who criticize you concerning the charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry

but note that it was constitutional and not institutional as charities today

there was no such verse in Quran to have institutions to collect and distribute sadaqa .if you find pl let my know

Further you will see the hierarchy in the verses about giving sadaqa

                Verse 2.215
They ask you, , what they should spend. Say, "Whatever you spend of good is for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveler. And whatever you do of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it."

as well as in Verse 2.177
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but righteousness is one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask , and for freeing slaves; establishes prayer and gives zakah; fulfill their promise when they promise; and are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.

Not all organizations are out to defraud people.

I cannot claim that all are frauds but ....let me take a example that i knew about ,for example Dr.Naik
We all know he runs a TV channel and he advertise regularly to rise charities and zakat for his channels .he is a pious and GODly man no doubt about it
lets have look how he might spend with the Sadaqa he got
Firstly , no doubt , he will take his share from the Sadaqa for collecting it ( as per the verse 9.60) .then , he will use that Sadaqas to run his TV channels ,of course he will take his share for being the CEO of this channel moreover since his schools are incurring losses(at least his Chennai branch is incurring heavy loses ,which i know ) he will pump Sadaqa funds in to this schools ,further he will take a amount as his remuneration for running schools .

Note that ,the same Sadaqa paying him at three different levels !

So this is the case of pious GODly man and of course he cannot be blamed because he is well within the frame of Islam

this is what happen in all organizations

Yeah! these people come under verse 2.273
Charity is] for the poor who have been restricted for the cause of Allah , unable to move about in the land. An ignorant would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their sign. They do not ask people persistently . And whatever you spend of good - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.

This is a very noble idea, Reel
But this is not a joke ,ALLAH subhanvatala is very stern about orphans . bringing a orphan to home and take all his responsibility is not a joke .above all ,we are answerable ALLAH if we do some injustice to him

If your are talking about sponsoring a orphan ,again you should do it personally .not by just asking someone to do tings on your behalf .
As far as i know , Sadaqa purifies only if you felt physically as salah

So this is the case of pious GODly man and of course he cannot be blamed because he is well within the frame of Islam

this is what happen in all organizations

In the United States it is constitutional, orphans are provided by the government through Foster Care. I see the hierarchy you have showed in the ayaats and I am aware of it, which is why if someone wanted to help orphans they would probably seek out those who collect charities on behalf of the orphans.
