    Peacemaking = True "JIHAD"

    1. And strive for the god his true striving. He has chosen you and has made no hardship on you in the obligation, the creed of your father Ibrahim. He (the god) named you the peacemakers previously and in this, so that the messenger will be a witness on you and you will be witnesses on humankind. ...

We are told that the reason for naming the followers of the god?s message "the peacemakers" is two fold; the messenger will be a witness on them; and they will be witnesses on humankind.

The definition of a witness can be summed up as one who testifies in the case of a dispute. The messenger is by definition the deliverer of the message and therefore in this capacity the message is the vehicle for communication. So what is the issue in dispute and how does delivering the message accomplish the purpose of witnessing against its own followers?

The issue in dispute is mentioned right at the beginning of the passage. By pointing to the true striving for the god, it is implicit in that statement that there is false striving for the god. The message of the passage is that its followers have been described as "the peacemakers" by the god. This message will be a witness against its own followers in the dispute of what constitutes true striving ("jihad&quot for the god as opposed to false striving ("jihad&quot for the god. Thus, by virtue of their god-given description, the followers of the messenger cannot corrupt and cause destruction and shed blood and then turn around and claim that they are doing it because they are striving for the god. By describing its followers as the peacemakers, the god?s message will be a witness against them.

Many evils in the world and plenty of wars and destruction have taken place by followers of all creeds in the name of striving for the god. So in turn, the peacemakers will be witnesses on humankind that testify the truth in the issue of those like Al-Qaeda who do not strive for the god the true striving and instead corrupt in the earth and shed the blood while claiming to strive for the god.

The single word, ?peacemakers?, describing the true strivers for the god stands as an overwhelming witness against those who cause death and destruction while claiming to strive for the god.

    Peace and see signature below,

First I was going to say you are wrong, but at a second thought I sensed you are right. The initial alif marks action in singular depending on sentence structure. Its literal (morphological) meaning is 'be', e.g. Be + Salam + phrase. However, its most common usage is as 'be sound' (of integrity) rather than shattered and broken. You say Salam as a greeting because you wish someone (good) health.

The phrase "a selam l rabb" refers to "being sound like Rabb" (at peace). Its derivative root Siin-Lam-Waw means consolation/comfort/stillness. This is when you are not affected by the weak nature of your body and follow its impulses.

So one is not Muslim (Me -selam) unless they are of a sound mind. The word reflects an attribute possession.

      Be well

        Peacemaking = True "JIHAD"

The most difficult thing is to make peace with yourselves and all the events which happened around you..

?Embrace nothing Only live your life as it is, Not bound to anything."
        -- Siddharta

"Buddha said to the hot dog vendor, "make me one with everything.?
-- A joke which ring some truth in it..

"I discovered that I was happier and more peaceful when I accepted what had happened instead of constantly fighting to change things."
        -- Deepak Chopra

islam is an attitude.. not a religion or a belief system or a sect or a social identity..
Apply it.. and you will be at peace... regardless of who you are..

Anyone agree with me without their own desires being reflected in the answer?

The proper name "Islam" can mean Abrahamic monotheism, submission or pretty much any meaning you want to assign to it. The common noun "islam" on the other hand literally means peacemaking (see original post) and according to 319 this is our only obligation and what we will be accountable for

                        1. Surely the obligation at the god is peacemaking and those who were given the book differed in it after knowledge came to them, through oppression between themselves and whoever rejects the signs of the god then the god is swift in calling to account.

Peacemaking is not a religion and one doesn?t even have to be a believer to be a peacemaker as clear from 4914

                        1. The dwellers of the wilderness said ?we believed?. Say ?You didn?t believe but say we made peace but faith has not entered your hearts and if you obey the god and his messenger, he will not diminish any of your deeds, indeed the god is forgiving, merciful.

Thus, the opposite of peacemaker/?muslim? is not disbeliever. The opposite of a peacemaker is a criminal

                        1. Shall we make peacemakers like criminals!?

A criminal corrupts and causes bloodshed. On the other hand, by being peacemakers, humans fulfill the responsibility that the god entrusted them with.

                        1. And when the god said to the controllers ?I am making in the earth a leader?. They said ?Do you make in it that who corrupts in it and sheds blood while we exalt with your praise and sanctify for you?? He said ?I know what you don?t know.?

Everyone naturally knows that corruption and bloodshed is the opposite of peacemaking. Common nouns such as ?peace? and ?peacemaking? are universal concepts that the god taught humans and they spontaneously appear across cultures, even those that didn?t have any contact with one another.

231-33. And he taught Adam the universal names then he showed them to the controllers and said ?Tell me the named of these if you are truthful.?
They said ?You be exalted, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us, you are the knowing, the wise.?
He said ?O Adam, inform them of their names.? So when he informed them of their names, he told them ?Didn?t I tell you that I know the hidden of the heavens and the earth and know what you show and what you were concealing.?

Peacemaking is not the meaningless proper name of some Arab religion. It is an action that humans must do to meet their obligation to the god and fulfill the trust that they were entrusted with

                        1. So set up your direction to the obligation leaning away from manmade religions, according to the god?s nature that he naturally made humans on, there is no alternative to the god?s creation. This is the worthy obligation but most humans do not know.

                        SEE What is "islam"?

Well from what I've read of Quran the model of faith is not Moses like Jews or Jesus like christians it's prophet Abraham and that's Allah's call.
                          But it is monotheism.
Sorry I wasn't to into answering just trying to keep the post alive
But why am I the only one on earth who says that Abrahamic monotheism???
But to answer maybe Islam is a basketball app or love or maybe peace.
                          Names have meanings
I thing Chinese are named after their date of birth or something. So the if a name can be January 1 than...

Remember in the quran Adam is taught the names of all thing by ALLAH then ALLAH sits him in front of the angels and says tell them their names.
What do you think the naming was based on and why was it so impressive?

                            Peace Abdelilah and everyone,

Peacemaking is not the meaningless proper name of some Arab religion. It is an action that humans must do to meet their obligation to the god and fulfill the trust that they were entrusted with

You might be right when you say that islam is not the meaningless proper name of some Arab religion.

Quran 385 If anyone seeks a Deen other than complete devotion to God, it will not be accepted from him he will be one of the losers in the Hereafter.

Quran 262 VERILY, those who have attained to faith , as well as those who follow the Jewish faith, and the Christians, and the Sabians -all who believe in God and the Last Day and do righteous deeds-shall have their reward with their Sustainer; and no fear need they have, and neither shall they grieve.

In verse 385 above, the Quran suggests that no Deen other than islam will be accepted from humankind. But in verse 262 above, the Quran suggests that Jews, Nazarenes (Christians), Sabians and people who follow other faiths/beliefs, will be rewarded in the next life. In other words, Judaism, Christanity, Sabianism and other faiths/beliefs will be accepted in the next life. How is this possible? Is there a contradiction between the message in verse 385 and verse 262? Or does the Quran suggest that the word deen doesn't mean religion and that the word islam is not the proper name of some arab religion? And is the Quran suggesting that it is possible to follow Judaism, Christanity, Sabianism or other faiths/beliefs and still be a muslim? If the word deen doesn't mean religion, then what does it mean? Has the word deen been mistranslated by past scholars? Does the word deen mean a "way of life"? And if islam isn't the proper name of some Arab religion, but is a common noun which means peacemaking, does this mean that it is possible to be a Jew, a Christian or a Sabian and at the same time be a muslim (peacemaker)? These questions are worth pondering upon, in my opinion.

Personally, I am not fully convinced that the word islam only means peacemaking. And I am not fully convinced that the word muslim only means peacemaker. I am open to the idea that the word islam means Peacemaking. And I am open to the idea that the word muslim means peacemaker. But I also think that the word islam and the word muslim has other meanings. I believe that one of the meanings of the word islam is self-surrender/submission. And I believe that one of the meanings of the word muslim is self-surrenderer/submitter.

Abrahamic monotheism prophet Abraham is the founder of Islam it's only proper to name it after it's founder.
Or prophet Abraham's version of monotheism. Like prophet jesus' version of monotheism.
It's all monotheism one God one theory of creation
But Islam is prophet Abraham's monotheism. Even sounds like what he named his son who helped build the kabba Ishmael. Or was is isacc?
Will it's is- what does lam mean?
Sa-lam means peace so is-lam can't simply mean peace can it?
Arabic is to mathematical it is well balances like the 0-9 number system which came from the arabs.

Salam is widely known to come from the root (Siin-Lam-Miim) and it means that something is in harmony, sound, in great balance. What is not widely known is that the root goes further to (Siin-Lam-Waw) which means consolation, comfort, harmony, i.e. has a very close connection to Salam. The Miim in Salam is just a closing suffix indicating condition and another example of word with the same ending is Jahennom where the Miim also gives condition (the word briefly means "in attachment to the bodily&quot.

Salam abstractly means to be in exaltation, nothing which is shattering one's spirit. To be whole is a way of seeing it in English.

Oh right Mof do you know what the is- prefix is? It's in Ishmael, Islam, isacc so I'm guessing it may be a root word? Seeing as these things are named by the same person prophet Abraham.

Your conclusion concerning Abraham's choice of names for his sons is logically sound, he did surely have an intention with the choice, but Is- is not a prefix or root, the Alif is the prefix while the rest of the word is part of the root, such as (Siin-Miim-Ayn) in the case of Ismael which means 'the Hearer' or more properly 'the Hearkener' (as in you take in information and process it). His name ends with Lam and like Amenuel it is in relationship to Allah as you are Such As, you can comprehend like Who Is (God/Rabb). Amenuel means 'who has such integrity' (is realized that way) and certain Jewish scholars interpreted it slightly inaccurately as 'God is with us'. While it is not a false statement it is not linguistically accurate and 'God is in him' is in that case more appropriate in order to philosophically explain the phenomenon. Asmael's name thus means 'who hearkens (grasps unto/takes in) like (Him)'.

Many ancient Semitic names end in Lam for a similar reason because they gave an attribute of God/Rabb to their children in order for them to imitate their God/Rabb.

As for your Islam the word is and Alif is the prefix and is the root, and salam means sound, in good condition. (al-selam) is about being in harmony with your soul, the word is an adjective which you attribute to a subject alternatively an object. Salam, the word, is hardly anything that Abraham invented and it is a word with a very old origin. Its morphological meaning is "Spirit (as) Such Thereof" which is in relationship to God/Rabb, all Semitic roots point back to God/Rabb as it was God/Rabb who invented Arabic and Aramaic with their letter system. Basically the word means that you are rock solid in terms of soundness and unbroken, e.g. you are whole.

Of course there has to be a reason why Abraham chose just Asmael and Ashaq for his two sons, one probably being that the Siin in his sons' names relates to the Spirit just as the Siin does in Selam, but the Alif is still a prefix to the root. Ashaq's name means distant and remote in a positive light like being way distanced from something with the thought of Abraham likely being remote to the relationship to this world. Obviously Abraham wished for his sons to find God/Rabb's Spirit in them and act accordingly to that realization.

                                        What language is this from?

Arabic and Aramaic, Semitic root authentic languages, they share the same roots because the letters mean the same irrelevant of which language that uses them authentically and only the grammar differentiates them.

                                        Be well
                                        Amenuel
