        Salaam!

        Very good point, burhan.
Ouch, we should have thought about that much earlier .... .
That truly gives a definit restriction.
        Thanks for reminding!

But there still is the exception of "illa maa malakat aymanukum" among the married women. Here on free minds is a good article about "maa malakat aymanukum" which interprets them as widows. However, I am not totally sure about that interpretation. Can one really say that a widow is still married to another man, really "protected by him" (what the word muhsanat actually refers to)? Maybe the term aymanukum ("your oaths") refers to very specific social circumstances that are not usual, but might occur.

Bashiri7, I don?t think we are trying to be "progressive" here. Many people who have been regular visitors of free minds have just seen too often how wrong traditionalist concepts can be in the light of the qur`an and so it is worth discussing all possibilities.
May God grant happiness to you and your future wife (congratulations!), whatever arrangement you might settle on.

        bye,

        leyla

            Peace be upon you,

The signs of the God pint us to the realities of life. There are more women than men. Homosexuality is not an option. What is the solution?

Ask your friend what will happen if all the husbands want kids at the same time and then he should realize that the Gods system is set up in a certain manner. This problem does not arise the other way around.

                Salaam,

frankly, why would any sane woman wanna marry more than 1 guy.

I think there are sane women who would marry more than one guy for reasons we may or may not understand. Maybe for the society or because she thinks it is okay to wed a man who is already married based on her beliefs.

                  Peace Idolfree,
from your post it could be deduced that you understand that several women for a man is part of of the God system. I hope I am wrong and I didn't understood you well.

                    Peace be upon you Elena,

                    Peace Idolfree,
from your post it could be deduced that you understand that several women for a man is part of of the God system. I hope I am wrong and I didn't understood you well.

The truth is I am still trying to understand this, and it is hard because of my western culture upbringinig. I am still undecided but as I work things out all the way in my head, it leaves a problem. Let's work it out together using the method of ONENESS.

Lets assume that all people in the earth became men and women of faith and they all wanted to get married and have children, what is the solution?

My personal choice is to only have one wife for myself. Having a life partner is no game, it is serious work. We cannot look at this issuer as a matter of SEX PARTNERS, because this is not what we are talking about. We are talking about man and women coming together to help each other remin on the path and to procreate and properly cultivate thier children on the path thet they both share.

If we look at it that way, perhaps it helps.

Another question we should all ask, has there been any people in history that have used polygamy effectively?

Some women ar ein polygamous relationships and don't even know it (cheating husbands).

In conclusion, I don't know what the God means when He says

                    (43) And if you feared that you not be just/equitable in the orphans , so marry what (was) allowed/permitted for you from the women two twos/twos, and threes, and fours, so if you feared that you not be just/equitable, so (marry) one or what your rights owned/possessed, that (is) nearer that you not side away from justice .

                        Peace,

I think if the Quran says to a man not to marry married women, then that concludes that a married woman can't have two husbands.

could you look for another oneness-example? I can't imagine all humans being distributed at the same time.

In conclusion, I don't know what the God means when He says

                          impenetrable verse.
-If it is about marrying the mothers of the orphans to take care of those orphans, what marrying captives has to do with this?
-if the previous, the following verses of that sura and the verse itself are talking about orphans, how come that a rule about marriage appears suddenly and disconected of the orphans subject?
-If it is connected and the aim is the care of the orphans, then I can understand that the rule would be meant for Arabs of that time, but if the all verses of the book are to give lessons for mankind, then I don't understand because it is not neccessary to marry the mothers of the orphans to take care of them
-I read an article here at FM that said it is not about marrying the mothers but to give in marriage the female orphans but that article has disappeared or I can't find it
-if some Arabic speakers are reading this, is the word 'mothers' included in the verse in the Arabic version? and is the word 'women' included?

just a question popped in my head.............

The first marriage of a guy can be out of love but what would be the intention of the secong marriage ? Just to help as a sex partner and create baby ? well if a girl is born than doesnt that add another to the extra women problem ?

                            P

if a man can't marry a married woman (424), then how can a woman have more one husband!

This translation of 424 seems to be wrong because the word mohsanaat, which is said to mean "married women" here in 424, means "unmarried women" in the following verse, 425

And (forbidden to you are) all mohsanaat... (424)
And as for those of you who are not able to marry mohsanaat... (425)

The confusion seems to be caused by the fact that there isn't a verb in the beginning section of 424. So people suppose it. Muhammad Asad for example supposes that it is (forbidden to you are) and puts it between parantheses to indicate that this is his human way of filling in the missing verb. However, it looks wrong because it causes the discrepency between 424 and 425.

We must think up another verb that will both make better sense and help translate the two verses without discrepency.

As for polyandry, 654 forbids it

Now as for such women as are beyond the age of monthly courses, as well as for such as do not have any courses, their waiting period -if you have any doubt- shall be three moths...

So there is an interval between a woman's divorce and remarriage; she cannot have two husbands together.

                                  Peace,
                                  Hasan

                                    Salaamun alaikum all,

Al-Quran does not allow polygamy at all anywhere. The ayat 44 (pm translation) is commonly mistranslated to allow polygamy in an exceptional situation but the correct meaning of 44 clearly shows there is no polygamy allowed in that ayat as Allah is talking about marrying off the orphaned women in groups of two, three, or four and not marry them. For further details please read the following article by brother Yaseen

                                    http//www.geocities.com/yaseen_q/polygamy.html

Also please read my post detailing my understanding at following thread

                                    http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3533

After going through the above links you will inshallah understand that there is no polygamy or polyandry according to Al-Quran.

                                    Regards,

                                    Tanveer
