    Peace,

Although this subject was discussed previously on this forum, I feel that it didn't have enough attention. The origin of the sentence "Allahu Akbar!" is not from al-quran, but it is the most used sentence by Muslims today, despite that it is grammatically wrong and that it has no foundation from al-quran. This sentence is used by Muslims in

    • The call for prayer
    • prayers (daily prayers, aid prayers... All prayers)
    • when happy
    • when sad
    • To celebrate a victory
    • in Hajj
      ...

But still, this sentence is nowhere to be found in al-quran.

I think that if the fabricators of the past could attach this (wrong) sentence to Islam, even with no basis or proof, then certainly they had the power to inject what ever ideas or practices they wanted into the religion or even create a new one with the pass code "Allahu Akbar!", so they could identify those who are with them in the same team. They created a Slogan, a brand name.

Please think about all the practices done by Muslims today where this sentence "Allahu Akbar!" is used; Is it that only this sentence that is injected into the practice? or is it that all the practice is invented?

    What do you think?

      It's possible.

Akbar = greatest = superlative = inherent comparison
Kabir = great = statement of fact = no comparison

As a side note is there any superlative used to describe God in Quran? I've never checked. Might be interesting.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Allahu akbar = God is great.

there is nothing wrong in it .. and whatever name you call upon God all names are beautiful.. i dnt recall the verse in which God is saying , call me rehman or raheem whatever name you will call its beautiful..something like that.

Well, it is not grammatically incorrect to say this, but Allah is not an address for God but Rabb is.

so gramatically it should be rab u akbar...

or by the way what Allah is according to you define it for me please.. who is Allah , is there is any difference between allah and rab

Grammatically, to my knowledge, it should either be Allahu al-akbar (superlative) or Allahu akbar min... (comparative, which should add the object Allah is compared to). Therefore, in my opinion, it should go "Allahu akbar min al adyan" = God is bigger than the religions

                Peace Wakas,

                I would say
Akbar = greater (not greatest) = superlative = inherent comparison
Kabir = great = statement of fact = no comparison

As for other superlatives in alquran, I can think of these verses

                7151

                1264
                1292

                2183

In these verses, the god is described as more merciful than all those who show mercy. It is a comparison as you have rightly stated.

I tried to look for A3lam (more knowledgeable), but there are many verses with the verb form, so I have to go through them to find the superlative form.

                Mohamed

Akbar = greater (normally followed by "than something else&quot
Asghar = smaller (normally followed by "than something else&quot

                  great = kabir
                  small = saghir

The god (allah) is called in alquran as al-kabir = the great, not akbar nor al-akbar.

Please see my previous posts above to understand why it is grammatically incorrect.

For the second part of your post, I don't understand what you mean; could you please explain again? (in a short and concise way if possible)

                    Peace

But why the need for an Arabic speaking person to invent a new (wrong) sentence to call on the god when there are already plenty of examples in alquran?

Never mind about Allah. I have written multiple times about it already.

You may be right about Akbar as adjective. It would appear unfit to be used that way. Since the phrase does not occur in Quran it is harder to examine and one reason it does not occur might be because it is simply wrong grammar. I realized it would rather use a form with AL with added/changed suffix. Worth looking into.

                          Be well

what we can say its the issue of language, we human beings use language in multiple ways...

in english. one word for nice have multiple synonyms... like good, excellent, fair, cool,

now look at cool gramatically its something cold but most of the people use it when they have nice idea...

lets say i m going to manchester,, now other perosn usually reply aww thats cool,, instead of using aww thats goood..or thats excellent...

same way,, akbar is used for big things.. or high things...

in our childhood the first concept of God comes in the mind is some highly being diety .. some great powers diety ...

so if we always look things through perfect grammers and correct grammer we end up confusion..

so if i say to my frd dnt use word cool ,, meaning of cool is cold , he will probably dont listen to me...

but what i understand you are saying this word Allahu akbar is not in quran so we should not use it.. again if quran have to use words it always very selective in using words , instead of using cool in a sentence quran prefer using good or fair... due to the excellence of grammer..

but we can use it Allahu akbar i thhink its nothing harm init... we are attentionly thinking God is great , and no doubt God is already great we say it one times or billion times...

                            peace

                                    peace someone,

Thanks for the verses, they are ok, but ideally I'd be looking for a reference such as God is al-X, where X is the superlative.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                                      Peace Wakas,

Thank you for helping me to better understand this subject.

The only reference I can think of now is Al-akram

You must have a good memory. Yes I think that usage qualifies.

                                          Peace,
The phrase is nowhere in the quran, as soon as i realised this i stopped using it. now i just say SubhanAllah instead.

The audhoo bi-llahi min-ash-shaytanel-rajeem, which similarly is not in the quran, as far as i understand, seems to be harder for me to get out of my head though.. which can be frustrating. may God purify us all of such inovations
