peace, this is as far as i have got so far with the translation in text format, god willing i will fix the weird characters (must be some encoding issue with my uploading method) because it turned all the speech marks into foreign looking characters.. the copy on my computer does not have that issue though... /

basicaly now it just needs to be checked against the print/pdf copy for consistancy, as i have noticed in places there are multiple spaces, or where lines were joined there are in places some words that look som-ething like th-is with hyphens in them.

I have checked and there are 6347 lines, which, if my maths are correct this late at night, god willing means

        6236 numbered ayah +
        112 un-numbered bismallahs
        = 6348 lines

its quite possible i accidentaly joined 2 verses together on one line when i was manualy touching up something.. god willing tommorow i will make a script to count each verse number, and look for a missing one at the start of the line, and also tell how many verses in each chapter, that is of course if this number of ayah is correct, it is just from a breif look online

either my maths is incorrect or ive made a mistake somewhere... although i dont know exactly how they calculate theese verse numbers.. i will have to look into this further tommorow, god willing, and if anyone can help with any definitive info, please let me know

Check the end of chapter 9.

            May my Lord Guide me.

            You ended with verse 128.

Praise god, i have fixed the missing verse, i just copied it from the original pdf. I also have, go willing, fixed occasions where there are multiple spaces between words.
still unsure what is causing the speech marks to render as weird symbols. can someone confirm this or not, for me? as i wonder whether it is my web browser.. i will, god willing have to look into that though.
now all i am aware of that needs to be done is removing hyphens from where lines were joined, which, god willing should be simple enough. and then i guess read through just to double check.

god willing after that is finished, we will have a good translation in plain text format, and i will work on how to make it work with Zekr application, and also convert it to XML and SQL, possibly JSON, so that it can be used in web apps/ databases / programs etc..

              Alhamdullilah, Peace

                Peace,

by the way Adam The Warner, and anyone else interested, Zekr (arabic for rememberance) is quran study software, it is written in Java, and has relatively good search functions. there are some good rescources it makes use of, which i will have to look into the licenses off, like the information on root words, their occurances etc. also they utilize the tanzil quran text.

i dont know how active development is though, as there wiki is down, and has been for at least 6 months or so, and if i recall correctly i emailed them about that long ago, and havent recieved a reply. that could have been tanzil though, i cant remember, mash'allah

Oh i see now the weird symbols. This maybe comes from the copy and pasting from a file to another file?

Isn't it smarter to just put them verse by verse in the database? Because you will have to struggle a lot this way since you will need to seperate the verse numbers and verses anyways?

What about a simple CRUD system for uploading the Quran into the database? It will take some time, but this way you don't have to work that circuitous?

Only thing you have to do. Create a CRUD with the CMD/terminal/etc. Takes 30min/1hour.

Then enter the whole Quran. Keep everything seperated so that you can make an object of it?

Anyways, i am not a proffesional developer. Still a student.

                        May my Lord guide me.

Please contact me on facebook if you feel the need to work together. I have added you, my name is Osama ibn Mohammed.

                        Peace.

                          peace,

I have no idea what CRUD is lol.

basicaly, it is, if god has willed, very simple.

                          heres the logic..

basicaly before i can do anything else, i need to strip it to the point that it is just lines of text, one verse per line. this is easy, if god has willed, using regex pattterns and tools like sed (this is how ive made the progress i have so far)

at that point what you end up with is one ayah per line. plain text.

at that point you have something you can just loop over and do whatever with it.

i would (and plan to, if god has willed) use python, as its what i know the most of, and make a dictionary object containing the surah numbers, and how many verses in each,

then use a few nested for statements to loop over everything

                              Peace,

                              i though i would update, i have now added the translation in format that can be used with zekr, please see;

                              http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9608679.0

for instructions, and the download link,

also if anyone wants to contribute to other translations in other languages for zekr or to make there own, also have a look, as i explained a little bit how i did it, and zekr wiki does not work..

                              Peace
