does anyone know of any good bible translations they would recommend?
I read the King James translation.
But i am trying to learn Hebrew since there is a lot of debate going on about which translation is better etc..

i think the KJV is highly innaccurate and inconsistant, and does not properly represent the text, similarly to the 'most recognized' quran translation, from Y. Ali. god willing however, i would like to learn greek and hebrew, i disagree that it takes a 'hellish lot of time and energy', all it takes is gods guidance and mercy, he is sufficient to teach us. In the mean time though i would like to try and find a good consistant and accurately representative translation to work with

Peace, in my knowledge the samaratain jews still hold a copy of the torah written in pre-babylonian script. also as far as i remember there are many sources for parts of the bible, and some of them were though to be not translated from greek, though admitedly i am not an expert. if god told us to follow the torah and gospel there must be a torah and gospel to follow!
Especially when God told Mohammed to let the people of the Gospel rule with the Gospel and what was revealed therein. Read 547 for the reference.
Don't listen to those that try to say that the Word of God isn't there anymore. God alone we should serve, God alone we should seek for help. May He the Hearer guide humanity.

Praise god, thats progression, i learnt hebrew alphabet once, but i have forgotten much now, though i would like to get back into it, i would like to understand all Gods revelations better. If god so willed.
I do my best not to follow anyone except God, and all that he has revealed. I have much love for Gods previous scriptures, I remember learning Psalm 23 in sunday school as a child haha, and I often appreciate the way Jesus presents such great parables/examples, by gods will, in the gospel.

Peace, Interesting concept, while i understand beginners in some things sometimes have the advantage of not being 'locked into a certain system or traditions' when it comes to learning some new things, if you get what i mean(?) prehaps it is better if you learn it yourself first?
either way, what kind of study software? like bible study software?
i discovered xiphos today, which does more or less what i want it to do, but there is always room for improvement.
However, i trust that God is the ultimate teacher, he is the only one who can teach us new things, regardless of the method he uses to teach us, I have learnt alot of arabic just from reading the quran (i spent 5 months in prison, and spent much of it just reading the quran, and did not have any internet access etc) and i have watched a few videos, but realy all credit is to God, and it is him who teaches me.
I remember once i made the aquintance of a jewish man, and he showed me a copy of the torah, i opened it, and pointed to what looked to me like a random word, and i said 'that is a name of god right?' he looked at me like 'what the', and i did it again to another word, then he started almost interrogating me like 'you say you dont know hebrew??' 'where did you learn hebrew??' and he started freaking out like i was bewitched. I have also looked at another language before and read it as if it were english, and then i looked up and back at it and it wasent even! it was like spanish or something foreign.. i still cannot explain it, apart from saying that god has power over all things, but my main point is, god is the teacher, and only by his blessing we can learn..
as for the islamtogether project.. well, as i put up on my website and other places, i have somewhat put it on hold. simply becuase i need to focus on my own personal relationship with God, and to purify myself, before i undertake what i see as a huge responsibility.. and i also need to gather ideas and support from others.. its not my project, its for the community, and i need community involvement.
idk if you were meaning that or my paid employment, in which case i am enjoying my sabbath today, and my body, and myself is thanking God for it.

I was a former sunni/salafist. Then i had that feeling about "how and why am i in the saved group, and why are there different groups that claim to be saved etc.". Also tried to find truth in sufism and shism. But i found them also clearly following falsehood.
Then until one day, in a local mosque, i witnessed a miracle. And from that day i started thinking, and 1-2 years later i was free from all sectarian groups!
And i saw even this pattern around the Gospel and the Torah. So that was it. All sects were following other sources beside the original source. And that was the problem!
I actually never used bible software? I am just thinking about software that let's you study faster because of using different algorithms to find different key words and roots you are searching. I still have to think about that part brother. May my Lord inspire me. The goal is to study the word of God faster and deeper. Example, when i use webapplicaties i often can search for keywords which give me the verses. But now i want to go further, and apply every kind of algorithm to the search function that i can think of. So that's why i am still thinking about how i am going to build this software. Point is, you can let your imagination go loose. But it will take some time to realise it. Just 1 barrier, because it's smarter to learn arabic since it's an arabic quran, and because it's smart to learn hebrew since it's an hebrew "bible", the language. I need to figure out how to build arabic software, hebrew software. But until then i can just write software for english translations.

Yes, God alone can teach us. He is the Almighty who created the Heavens and the Earth. So may He teach me and let me use the best methods that are available in this age. Also not to forget, how will you be able to study if the quantum computer goes public? We can't imagine how big computations that kind of computer can handle.
Remember the story of Joseph. It will strengthen you ! And i actually stopped listening to people who do not use the Word of God alone as their source of knowledge. That was a huge error that i made when i was following sunnism/salafism blindly. The key to that chapter in my life was to research what i was following before following it. I was 22 when i accepted the message of God Alone, and ofcourse i need to learn a lot, but it's a huge step at that age. All praise due to God, Lord of the worlds.
Yes, i believe in miracles. And i am glad that they are give. Because we human beings are sometimes to weak, that's why we should God alone for help.
Umm, i am enjoying the last day of the week also brother. I was asking about the project you told me about. Ah okey, well i am working on a project now and helping someone. First project by the way. It's a webapp with the Quran and different translations, and some other features. But it's not a blog or forum kind of project.
Well yeah, everything haves it's own time. So may God grant us patience.
What we can do, is unite more if possible all programmers. This way we can make something really beautiful for the community. I know now 2 programmers. You and a brother Joseph from Tel-Aviv. I was talking with that brother which i know from facebook about virtual reality apps. We had an idea about making an app with a replica of the Temple that is mentioned in detail in the Book of God. This would be a virtual reality app. With virtual reality headset etc. Because at school we had an intro into VR, and i asked him if he wanted to contribute. But we are both webdevelopers, because my focus now is webdevelopment. So ideas enough, and programmers are in demand..

I am interested in the quran web app, i quite like quranix.org but i think it can be improved in many ways.. speaking of that, i should remember to contact them, and see what they are working on.. alhamdullilah
some of my ideas have been to use XML, or a relational database, to store the quran, but also to allow the ability to tag information, about related verses or concepts etc, kind of like incorporating cross references, and concordance, possily things like morphological data, lexicon, root definitions etc. Also to have multiple translations, and the ability to toggle between them etc. basicaly like quranix, but with more info at hand, and a more refined system, because quranix can be slow to load, as it loads the whole surah, and also the design is sometimes a bit weird or glitchy.. also preferably a portable backend, so that it can be used cross platform, online or offline..
God willing, today i will finish off working with the plain text translation of the quran, so that it can be incorporated into various things.
other things you may be interested in, is Zekr app, have a look at how they use there root lists to search words and roots, its primative, and could be somewhat simpler with regex, but im not sure how you would implement regex patterns to properly match roots, it would certainly take some thinking outside the square.. with zekr, if you are on a mac, once you install it you can check out the files, most of them are plain text or XML etc, and should be in /usr/share/java/zekr or somewhere similar wherever mac stores the /usr part of the filesystem. the data all has a range of licenses, but you may be able to use some of the stuff there, for the quran at least, or just get some ideas. also you may be interested in the tanzil project, they offer the quranic text in various formats, including XML, SQL, plain text and also with/without vowel markings etc..
in relation to xiphos, it uses this sword project backend, which, in my limited understanding, is a library backend for bible study applications, basicaly just allows you to download modules, for example translations, or strongs lexicon etc, and basicaly to use simple browser kind of software (like xiphos) to interface with it.

The reason why specific religion / sect declared themselves as the ONLY saved group is to keep all the member within the group.. and only within the group.Then until one day, in a local mosque, i witnessed a miracle. And from that day i started thinking, and 1-2 years later i was free from all sectarian groups!
Think some more.. until you're totally free from all sectarian / religious mindset too... and then free other people still bounded to sectarion / religious mindset..
And i saw even this pattern around the Gospel and the Torah. So that was it. All sects were following other sources beside the original source. And that was the problem!
No that actually wasn't the root cause of the problem..
The root cause is the feeling of superiority and exclusivity over the other group...Yes, God alone can teach us. He is the Almighty who created the Heavens and the Earth. We can't imagine how big computations that kind of computer can handle.
Definitely God alone that shall reveal everything that's unknown to human... and it hasn't stopped...

Brother, i don't know about all the places. I have read the Quran 1-2 times from cover to cover. The Torah/Psalms/Gospel once from cover to cover. Reading for my second time. So i still have to learn A LOT! And i shouldn't forget that when i study the Word of God in the original language that by Hes will it will open even more doors to knowledge and pondering upon the Word.
