    Salam,

as title says, how do you perceive patience?

When talking about patience with other people, I usually don't have the same definition or perception of the word.

Some believe it to mean to stay on the same course until you get the results. Many confuse it with perseverance. Others that you should let time go and wait.

It's hard to understand what patience is in Quran context. Do we get the meaning of patience in Quran?

    Salam

Patience is waiting in prison several years for a crime you did not commit and waking up every day grateful to God and turning to him oft-repeatedly.

Patience is resisting to sleep with a beautiful woman who took care of you and raised you like a son, or servant and who is trying to forcefully seduce you, because you fear your Lord and know that He is Watchful

Patience is forgiving and suppressing your anger and suspicion towards your elder sons who lied about letting your young son be sold into slavery because of jealousy and suppressing the grief in front of others and enduring the pass of time without the smiles, laughter and joy which that one now long gone son used to bring.

Patience is living a whole lifetime among obstinate disbelievers and fools who every time are warned mock and laugh and turn away from you, until finally they make a plan to come against you with their multitude and your Lord drowns them all.

Patience is enduring a pregnancy alone away from your family

Patience is being willing to sacrifice your son who was granted to you by the Most Gracious in the old age because you believe you were instructed to do so

Patience is rushing to climb a mountain ahead of your people and spending 40 days and nights awaiting to receive the Word from your Lord

Patience is enduring the harassment and oppression by a tyrant dictator against your people and his labelling you a magician and his crocodile tears every time a plague is cast upon the people, only to then return to disbelief and oppression after it is lifted.

Patience is enduring the constant questioning and dissatisfaction and stubbornness and ignorance of your people after your Lord has guided you all out of Misr and parted the Seas right in front of your eyes and provided you with water and food blessed.

Patience is enduring the affliction of the shaytan in the sickness and loss of family and refusing to denounce the faith until your Lord returns to you back family the like of what you had before and health and much more

Patience is enduring the harassment by the townsmen in your city because they dislike the fact that you are pure and constantly warn them against their transgression, sins among which is homosexuality.

Patience is the determination to constantly turn to God in repentance every time you wrong, without failing to genuinely seek His forgiveness.

Patience is registering on a forum expecting it to be bustling with conscious, pious, constant Quran readers, but you find it filled with trolls, shills, trigger-happy administration, racists, anti-muslims, self-procliamed messengers, loonies and deciding to stay so that the conscious reader knows they are not alone.

Ask about Luqman in the Quran. He advices his son about patience

Patience is of the matter requiring determination.

Allah undoubtedly is The Most Patient, The Subtle

The Patient over the ungrateful disbeliever who He perpetually feeds, heals, clothes, shelters and still rejects the Faith, and despite all of that Allah is Able to Forgive Whom He Wills if they turn to Him sincerely

        Salaam

I like this thread and I like all the posts.

I read when I was a child a book by Carlyle, the cult of heroes or something like that and he said something tht I remember as patience being the most muslim virtue.

It may be so, because finally patience is belief, believe that however long the night may be, there is a sun and it will rise, that however humilliated we may be, there is a God who gave us life and loves that life. In a way patience is faith in action, although in appearance patience seems not to be action, but it is, and also there is patience with oneself. Sometimes we are horrible and we know it, but still believe that it does not have to be so forever and that we can do something about it.

                Salaam AND patience dear forumers

Patience is not to become emotional when the patience is put to the test. It can be a variety of situations including encounters with others including those who do not think the way you do.

How about shortcuts in certain situations? Like someone is unemployed. His friend tells him there is an illegal way to make income?
Then also there are people who would start a business with the strange hope of earning jackpot in just a few days.

Some believe it to mean to stay on the same course until you get the results. Many confuse it with perseverance. Others that you should let time go and wait.

I do agree with the emotional part mentioned by MOF. But when it comes to certain course what I have noticed is that sometimes it is just not the right thing for us. We can logically even come to conclusion about it in the mind. In that situation, the patience is rather a negative kind of stubbornness. Allah might just not help in that.
                      Example
Maintaining a relationship with a person who has been unfaithful too many times.

I would say where to have patience should be based on evaluation of the situation.

its a very critical point of somebody life... ... on one hand God advise us try to save a relationship.. on the other hand you are feeling it difficult... to continue..

again if you want to take a decision then things come in between. if you leave that person its mean you are selfish, you did not forgive that person....

its such a confuse and difficult situation..

OOny a perso who wants forgiveness can be forgiven. If somebody wants to be forgiven but continues doing the sme thing what he really wanted was not firgiveness but licence to do as he please. There must be a will in the erson forgiven for forgiveness to be of any use. You forgive a murderer if he really repented and was not to murder any more. But what is the use or th relity of forgiving a murderer who wants to continue murdering?

                          Salaam

                            murdering someone is different ,,

the matter of relationship and matter of free will and pre destiny both are very difficult and complicated subjects.. the ultimate knowledge regarding that matters are with God i think... we only represent theories in both of these matters..

sometimes we see our partner is not loyal or not taking good care of home and finances but after knowing this we never wanted to get seperate becoz of kids ... or some other reasons, some devilish people realised it and start taking advantage of the situation..

sometimes this life is full of shit but , we are advised to be patient all the times.. hence full stop to emotions logics, wrong doings.. or most accurate wait the judgement and results that god will bring for us...

God even dnt speak with us... never replied us... even after talking with him telling him problems , there is still a silence from God... what a human do?

i was confused but my understanding of outcomes of choices change after an experience

when there are two bodies attach the system of outcomes change the shape...

let say a person told me he did not do anything wrong , why badluck happened with him? next time he will not gona picka right path becoz he suffered pain on right path ..

when one perosn is on right path and other is wicked let say in husband wife reltionship.... what result will come... most of the cases the right person suffered more than wicked.. isnt it..

its due to a reason there is a mix and match outcomes ,, but in long run the wicked never get happy and the victory approaches to right one, although due to a wrong choice of selecting this person suffered a pain but God select an alternate for him which is more good... than previous... although i could not properly explain in words may b more experince of life teach me more lessons lol...
