they threw their pens
-
Hi all,
Please could anyone answer my question.
In Chapter 3 verse 44, what is the meaning of ?. Most of the commentators translate it as "they threw their pens to draw lots" but if you read chapter 5 verse 90, where God called it "the work of Satan".
Prophet Jonah was also involved in Chapter 37 in drawing lots. In one verse drawing of lots is fine but in the other verse it is the work of Satan.
Please clarify.

In all 3 verses totally different words are used.
Yes passing their pens is not the same as making wagers in the unseen outcome to win money etc.
344 such from information the unseen we reveal it to you and not were thou with them when yul'qna/passing pens theirs which of them takes custody Maryam and not were thou with them when they were disputing
590 O you the ones believes ye of only the inebriant and the wager and the monuments/altars for sacrifice wal-azlmu/and the arrows filthiness from work the devil so avoid ye him that may you succeeding
37141 fashama/so he drew lots so became among the losers
