Peace everyone. It's been too long.

I have a question. Recently I've heard American activists (usually Socialists) refer to Muslims as a race. Can anyone speak to this?

Thank you for your valuable time.

People talk about the Jews as if they were a race called that.

That goes to show how good schooling and learning they have had

        or

how good their de-schooling and unlearning was.

        Salaam

Most races aren't real in a biological sense anyway (esp white 'race&#039 so I wouldn't worry much about it. It moreso refers to an identifiable social group hence why it applies.

            Peace

Yeah, it threw this "white" Muslim girl for a loop, indeed. They stand in solidarity with Palestine and so if they desire that understanding, it may be harmless. Thank you!

Well it's kind of complicated whenever Muslim identity is refereed. 'Muslim' is not a race but a follower of Islam regardless of background but this identity is racialized because of the connotations with the ethnic groups, most commonly Middle Easterns and South Asians. Even if group of Muslims who are neither of those two, they would be strongly tied to the religious identity. Just like Osman says, race is a social concept and can be applied to a group with similar characteristics.

                  Agree...
Race just like religion, nationality, tradition, language, university alumni, favorite football club etc.. is an element which makes up a 'social identity'..
A social construct for human to identity whether the other human should be categorized as 'among us' or 'among them'..
