Quran and Morality
-
Good day,
Just an idea I had the other day. Cna we consider the Quran to be a reminder and a clarification for people? In a sense it reminds people about a neccessity of being moral and clarifies what is moral and does not instruct or give a list? Considering it is a reminder of truth (one God) as well.
It is because what it tells people to be righteouss in general and do good. It gives example only of zakat (giving to the poor) thought but does not specify the rest. Could be that the basic moral principles are there from birth - not killing, not stealing etc. People forget at times (especially when they get arrogant or enjoy abundance). Thus, we need to be reminded.
Another thing is clarification of of what is goo or bad. I have seen those atheists for example who could not tell or didn't tell. The best example was Dr. Krauss (scientist) justifying incest. Verse 24"39 suits this guy I think
Also, I think faith is very important. I personally know a guy who was an alchoholic. Nothing helped him. Nor family, no medicine, no love no nothing. THe only things was faith. He started to pray and stopped drinking. He was afraid. He actually was quite a radical for some time (one year). But it was connected more with fear of sinning. Now he is alright being away from alchohol for 10 years now.

3030 So set your face/consideration for the obligation of uprightness/monotheism* the nature that God created mankind on, there is no changing in the creation of God. That is the correct obligation but most of the people do not know.
*basic meaning of this word is to incline away from falsehood toward that which is trueThe function of God's signs, scripture and prophecy is to reawaken the awareness of this innate imprint and remind mankind to return to observance of the covenant of God. The signs are not restricted to revelation alone
4153 We will show them Our signs in the horizons, and within themselves, until it becomes clear to them that this is the truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is witness over all things?
To accept this reality and submit to (or make peace with) one?s fundamental nature is thus understood as the substance of true "ibadah"(servitude).
5155 And remind, for surely the reminder benefits the believers.
5156 And I did not create the hidden/jinn and manifest/mankind except to serve Me.A recurrent theme in the relationship between God and mankind is that the human being is oft forgetful, thus periodic reminders (e.g. tawrat, injeel, zaboor, quran) are sent to reaffirm the covenant. This gives us a pluralistic/inclusive perspective in which to view all revelations from God - every covenant made with mankind on earth is ultimately a recognition, renewal, and continuation of the original promise to adam. For example, this would explain the numerous references in Al Quran of it being a reminder .

So, it IS a reminder to initiate morals and faith as well as the desire to learn, because all three are with us from birth. I think recent Oxford study showed that belief in a higher being us natural.
So, if I understood it correctly, Quran reminds that we are moral from the start and does not teach it.
