I would say EGO is the most single handedly important thing for an individual.

Save yourselves. Quite literally, just like you save a word document after hours and hours of work.

For an "individual" yes, EGO is the most important thing..

"What the caterpillar calls the end, the rest of the world calls a butterfly. If you die without loss, you are eternal.?

Jafar, you EGO is the most important thing if you are an individual, as you said yourself. Becoming an individual is something that must be encouraged and sought upon. What makes you an individual, thats what it matters. Yes, the appearance might change. But your EGO is what makes you, You. I would see it as a tragedy for someone to lose hiS/her EGO. Having a strong EGO, doesn't necessary mean being selfish.

Dont you want to become someone? Something ? Maybe the problem lies, that we refrain from ourselves, we ignore ourselves.

hansolo, have you recovered,at least physically, now?
Or was "your other self" that was not well only?
By the way,the mirror cannot benefit or harm you. It just shows you what you want to see!
          GOD bless you.
          Peace.

You are yourself entrapped and attached to the body. And the body comes with signals to you to do things and it can be hard to resist. That source of the signals is the instinctive drive which seeks to please and entertain the body it belongs to much like the animal it is, a primate. So it is up to you who to be, a primitive animal or an advanced being able to be above the primitive urges. The whole test is to avoid Satan (the instinct) or else one fails the test.

But it is a huge disadvantage to accept the body as a real part of you. In that you tend to accept the nature of many of its desired behaviors.

One must reflect upon interests in life such as watching movies that portray violence. Even desiring to defeat people in sports and games is part of the instinct.

                              Be well

I try to help people on places like this. Decipher Quran in a huge reinterpretation project. I work. I watch the news. I play a city planner on the computer just to work on my logic and perhaps a little for entertainment but who says entertainment is forbidden, even God had humor in creating much of what is in the world. I have thought of skipping the game though even if it is just a few hours per week, and it helps me stress down.

I have begun to avoid shooting games even so-called PvE (player versus environment) while I had already stopped PvP long ago. I avoid movies focused on violence and I do not watch a game where I seek one to defeat another (I have no favorite team).

I seek to reject anything which is competition so to say because it is clearly in the instinct.

Avoiding the instinct is easy. Just avoid what makes Homo Sapiens an animal.
