Islam is the system of God, Submission (Islam). To learn more about the system of God, study the Quran, and then when you know what Islam is, watch the video again and you will realize Islam has been laying low for centuries and only recently about 2 decades ago or even less had a "revival" by the mercy of God.

To answer the main question Yes Islam is a religion..
A dogma to provide a control to the behaviour of the people under an empire...
In similar manner and purpose, the Roman invented a religion called CATHOLICISMUS..The Mongol started out without a well organized religion... as the Mongol empire later grew (and fractured) the western mongol empire adopted the local religion (an evolved form of Islam) and put their own idea and modification which then evolved into another form of Islam. The Islam with the crescent moon and star symbol... something which was initially 'forbidden' in the earlier form of Islam (Aniconism).

Exodus 203-4The mongols uses their modified Islam as a religion to control the behavior of the people under it's domain, and also to motivate the people in war and conquest as they spread their territory to Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India.. and through trade they spread the religion to South East Asia.
