peace, clarify why shuns them doesn't make sense?
so admonish ye them (f/p)
wa-uhjuruhunna/and leaves ye them (f/p) in the rest place
wa-iribuhunna/and avoids/shuns ye them (f/p)cite them to whom exactly and what's that going to do?
pick a city London, Anchorage, Istanbul, NYC apartment, etc.
what to do, yell out the window -- this ***** ruined my life!!!
Peace
4/34
Yeah, first we let them know we are not happy, if they listen and make adjustments
then things go back to normal. If letting them know we are not
happy with them doesn't work, then we avoid them. If neither of those two work
you have no choice but to think about separation.4/35 but before the separation, talk to others about the situation and maybe they
can bring the two back together. And if they want to stay together Allah will help them.Just my understanding
peace

Ahl As-Suffa and later Bukharion treatment of 434 is often interpreted as a verse that allows abuse.
(3021) ?Among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, in order to have tranquility and contentment with each other. He places in your heart love and care towards your spouses. In this, there are signs for people who think.?The Quran has a general theme of that misconduct, promiscuity, untrustworthyness, belongs to the disbeliever. Disbelievers are forbidden to marry.
So 434 should be understood as, warn, stop marital relations, divorce.

Hi,
I may say smth that migh look crazy but here it goes
I think this verse, and the entire chapter 4 is directed to the believers of Muhammad. That said only to those who followed Muhammad then (including Muhammad himself). The chapter, as being Medinan (or chapters that are transactionary), is directed exclusively towards those people/followers who lived with Muhammad at the time.
A proof of this is found in the sentence that is repeated everytime Follow the Prophet. This sentence can be found ONLY in the Medinan verses. Obviously directed to the followers of Muhammad as the latter was alive (it makes sense to follow him as he is already dead).

Perhaps interrogate if address was general (see huruf?s reply) i.e. to "community" at the time?
I do not find that the address is time limited except by the particular circumstances that may be explicitly or implicitly said in the text itself.
The community of believers is something historically constant. That is, the existence of believers did not end with the death of the prophet. It may end or it may not, but form what we can know there have always been believers. So unless the statements are restricted by the text itself I see no reason to see it restricted to the believers or the people at the time of the prophet's prophetic life.

peace Noon,
Only saw your post today.
peace Wakas, please clarify shun is not "move out" and 434 is a repeated action?
434 wa-iribuhunna/and shuns (with alif/repeatedly) ye them (f/p)
435 afanaribu/shall so we shun about you the reminder
474 faarba/so shun the necks (i.e. captives) until when has defeated ye them
Even if "shun" does not mean "move out", it still suffers from the problems in my list except 1, 4 and 8.
You claim, without evidence, alif implies a repeated action.
You claim, without evidence, Aan implies "about".
I dont understand what you mean by "shun the necks (i.e. captives)" in 474.
Until the above issues are resolved, I dont see a compelling case contrary to the findings of www.Quran434.com
