How has God helped you and others?

Salaam All,
I was watching Scarborough Country and there was a Jew an Athiest and a Christian. The Athiest had brought up an interesting thing to which I do not yet have the answers.
She said something to this extent
'God did not help the people who were hit by the tsunami, the people did. I do not believe in any of these gods because it is people who help people.'
In alquran Allah is called naseeran or helper. Now to spark some thinking I want to put forth the question of how does Allah actually help us where we can help ourselves?

Idolfree says, maybe all of you say, that God has instilled in us Its spirit, that we have a "divine" part. I take this as the intelligence and all that is spiritual in us that makes us to act and react. That would be the asnwer for me if I would want to see God in any aspect of the life. -

Just to speak (again...) of my own experiences As everybody else I had some tough times in life, but up to now, things always arranged themselves "just in time" hamdullelah!
For example, where job search was concerned, up to now, even though I was searching for a job, the job that finally was for me always came up from somewhere else - not where I was searching at all...
Also, when there was a financial crisis, money just came from somewhere even though I didn't expect it.
I see Gods help in this because I absolutely don't believe in coincidences. Used to be a very anxious person but after several of these experiences am not anymore.

Agreed. And to add to this, this reading(quran) tells us to seek help with patience and the process(salaat).
While many don't like to deal with it and want salaat to be whatever anyone feels like it shoule be, this reading(quran) describes it as the process of learning, which is also in the catergory of inutition.
Our nature is PEACE, this is why we greet each other "PEACE be upon you", and why the greeting of the Garden/Paradise is "PEACE".
It is only when you are in a peaceful state that you can get the answers from the God, this is what one LEARNS from the process(salaat). This is why we should remain STILL when we maintain our process(salaat). Other traditions understand this well when the speak of meditation and stilling the thoughts, etc. It is stated that this is when WISDOM descends on you.
Think of when someone puts you on the spot by asking you a question. If you get nervous and scared, sometimes you get a BLOCK and cannot see the answer, it is not until later on that you relax and the answer jumps out to you. And there are countless examples of this that we all can bring to mind. When you are scared, the blood leaves your vital organs like your brain, and goes to the "fight or flight" organs to prepare them for action. So in order for your blood, which carries the energy, to go back to the most important organs, we have to be at peace.

Why didn't the "people" help the thousands of people who died then? Can they help themselves from thier own deaths when the time comes? Those who did not remain at peace may have made matters worse, while those who remain calm in the toughest situations are given WISDOM from the God, because they are calm enough to react intelligently. All of this is based on the God's unchangeable LAW. The God is ot coming down to spilt oceans and change sticks to snakes, perhaps that is what the atheist was looking for, and can we blame him/her when many of us here state that this is what happenned in the past LITERALLY?
We have to correct this misconceptions and be vigilant in doing so. Peopla have a warped sense of God and so called "religion".

Help Allah for Him to Help you.
How to help Allah? As He leads you, follow Him; as He speaks to you, listen to Him; as He protects you, be grateful to Him; as He conducts your affairs, observe patience and be not advancing before Him; thus you keep up His promise and He shall keep up your promise; thus you help Him for Him to Help you.

If ye will help Allah, He will Help you, and plant your feet firmly.Above all be a believer in allah's Help and protection and guidance and be ever grateful to Him alone by falling down prone, from the pedastal of pride, you have put yourself upon - climb down in repentance from the kind of action which is equivalent to associating yourself with God. A 'grave shirk', the most ungrateful attitude Allah will never forgive.

What can Allah gain by your punishment, if ye are grateful and ye believe? Nay, it is Allah that recogniseth, and knoweth all things.May Allah Help Us All.

I know alot of people who say they believe in God, and when some tragedy like a natural disaster, an accident or some other event where people get killed happen, they start doubting the existance of God, or they call God cruel, or sleeping, or unable. This is also an agrument from atheists. They say that there can't be a God since there is so much misery.
All of these people think they deserve a perfect life and that any hardship is unfair. It is obvious that such people totally has missed the big picture. They think that they know what real truth and justice is. They think that they know, better than God himself, how God should behave. They question God's goodness or existance when e.g. a young child dies. They say it was not his/her time. They say it was too early. They say it like something bad happened to the child. I know it can be devastating for the parents.. but perhaps the child is in a much better place and is grateful to God that he/she didn't have to stay in this world of hardship.
I think people who are quick to question God and his goodness are actually not believeing in God in the first place.
Some people say that God doesn't help people in need. Well, they say this because of their own definition of 'help'. Maybe God's definition of help is different. Maybe we again miss the big picture. We are quick to blame God for all kinds of things. But maybe we just don't understand the reality.. the real system of truth and justice, cause and reaction etc.
This is just what I think right now. Of course, there are many things that I cannot answer, and that I don't understand. People have experienced any more horrible things than me, so I cannot say too much about this. However, I believe that people have a tendency to miss the universal picture. People just see the things that are immediately around them, affecting them right now.
