Question

? I am asking this question at different places, trying to make some sense of the issue from all kinds of perspectives.
Ok.... What are your views on music, singing, and dancing?
I was told that in Islam it's haram, and they gave me hadiths in which Mohammad simply said to not be like the pagans.... but some people are so strict with this, they insist that he meant all singing and dancing, and muscial instruments.
From what I've noticed at this site so far, am I correct in assuming this is a group that rejects hadith? If so, is my question addressed at all in the Quran?
Thanks.

Greetings,
From what I've noticed at this site so far, am I correct in assuming this is a group that rejects hadith? If so, is my question addressed at all in the Quran?
"Say, "Who prohibited the nice things God has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?" Say," such provisions are to be enjoyed in THIS life by those who BELIEVE. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of resurrection." We thus explain the revelations for people who know." 732 (QURAN)
Now, on to your question, please visit this page http//www.submission.org/music.html

Peace,
This may help
732 Say Who hath forbidden the beautiful (gifts) of God, which He hath produced for His servants, and the things, clean and pure, (which He hath provided) for sustenance? Say They are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) purely for them on the Day of Judgment. Thus do We explain the signs in detail for those who understand.
733 Say the things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are shameful deeds, whether open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to God, for which He hath given no authority; and saying things about God of which ye have no knowledge.
As long as the music, dancing, activities in general are not shameful or lewd then there is no problem. The traditionalists would have you believe that mullahs and so called scholars have the last say - they are wrong.
No one may forbid what God has permitted.
Peace.

You shall not utter lies with your own tongues stating "This is lawful, and this is unlawful," to fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD. Surely, those who fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD will never succeed.Declaring something haraam is a power exclusive to God. Muhammad did not have the power to declare something haraam. Accepting non-Quranic prohibitions found in Hadith is ascribing a power of God to a human and thus tantamount to shirk.
Music is not haraam.
