Don't forget our dearest relatives, thought with 'sign language' they are proven to be able to talk, think, imagine/dream, recognize things and person just like their nearest (and more brutal) cousin, the human...

Sadly Chantek just passed away last month... Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un

Oh poor Chantek may he/she rest in the Hereafter. What does that mean?

        peace all,

its worth noticing that some species of parrots speak exactly as human speak.. (some words) whatever u teach them

in old times people used pigeons to transfer message from one location to another..

dogs are used for hunting (mention in scripture)

dolphin (fish) respond on signals and even tell basic math like 2+2= 4 .. kind of stuff

about the story of suleman its not just hud hud, or ants communication but also the transfer of queen's throne from one location to another in the blink of eye. its not just easy to grasp but its also not impossible to happen..

monkey even ride a bicycle rotfl

Regardless of the 'language' or means of communication between ants...

          1. How does the ants recognized a human by his name? (Solomon)
          2. How does the ants recognized human by their profession (soldiers)

Maybe the ants befriended Solomon on his Facebook profile?
And within Solomon stated his profession as "King Of Israelites, commanding multitude of soldiers".

          Salaamun,

I wanted to added one more question.

          1. Even if the ant spoke to other ants, how did Sulaiman hear that communication?

1)It is incorrect to state that the afterlife is allegoric. That does not even make sense. How can any form of existence be allegoric? This alone makes half of the statement fallacious.
2)It would be plausible to state that the afterlife resembles this life
3)If your claim is that everything pertaining to the afterlife that is cited in the Quran is allegoric then it is a whole different story and we can further address it on the next correspondence.
4)If I can jump into conclusion for argumentation sake I would say that, even if your claim is as above in 3), you still do not have a valid citation to support it. 1335 is a mere SIMILITUDE for the garden. The affair of hands speaking is in relation to Judgement which would occur prior to assigning souls into the garden or fire. Furthermore, nowhere does the Quran state that the entire afterlife has been cited as allegorical. That is merely your assumption, ?you do not have evidence to support it,? and 1335 is certainly not evidence.
Yes this is a bit beyond the scope of the OP, but that is because you contested the literality of the verses I cited. So I am proving to you that those verses that I cited are very literal and have no reason to not be taken as such whatsoever, unless your paradigm differs completely from the deen that is. Meaning you want to claim anything you do not agree with can be allegoric, which is exactly what the disbelievers in 37 act like, so beware brother.

Peace, "hands speaking" if not allegoric tell us how "on this earth" -- those hands have mouths or perhaps Italian hands, capisci?

Sulaiman seat of power/autority was so renown even ants feared him.

Why then do you wonder at Sulaiman communicating with a hoopoe?

2716... know we of (plural) maniqa l-ayri

Who are the others (plural) mentioned in verse?
Who was l-hud'huda that said all this 2722-26?
Were ants mentioned, which word is languages?

1)Or rather do you believe that Sulaiman the wise and righteous king ruler would laugh at the speech of a woman in distress and fearful of being trampled by him and his forces? How ill of a conclusion would that be to arrive to!
2)And how can human beings be trampled unknowingly?
3)The pictures you have provided do not show an underground valley, it is clearly visible. So your theory is not feasible.

Peruse the word valley and fits perfectly in context they came upon "the valley the ants" (i.e. the valley of underground dwellers); she sounded call "not realizing" he meant them no harm.

Introducing Translate for Animals (beta) Bridging the gap between animals and humans
Making the world?s information universally accessible is a key goal for Google. Language is one of our biggest challenges so we have targeted our efforts on removing language barriers between the species. We are excited to introduce Translate for Animals, an Android application which we hope will allow us to better understand our animal friends. We?ve always been a pet-friendly company at Google, and we hope that Translate for Animals encourages greater interaction and understanding between animal and human.

Translate for Animals is an application for Android phones that recognises and transcribes words and phrases that are common to a species, like cats for example. To develop Translate for Animals, we worked closely with many of the world?s top language synthesis teams, and with leaders in the field of animal cognitive linguistics, including senior fellows at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

              Step 6 Processing the data

Please be patient whilst the voice recognition software checks the recorded pet sounds against the millions of stored noises in the Animal Linguistic Database. This should only take a few seconds.

              Step 7 Transcribing the translation

Once the data has been processed you will see an English transcript translation of what your animal has said. If you wish to hear it spoken press the speaker button to hear an audio version.

Note It is not Google?s responsibility if you are offended or disappointed by what your chosen animal may say. Also please note, we do not guarantee stimulating conversation.

Can't tell about ants at this time. They sure are a mystery still. Can't deny they are more complex and far more strategic than us humans but I heard some pets mentioning their owners' names. Needless to say the verse is speaking about female ant which can mean the queen of the hive. They are capable of living 30 years. Plus they say hive has its own mind. Not much has been studied about it despite simulation software available for it.

On all seriouness, someone decipher the term ant using Lane or other old lexicons and stop this non-sense of a topic.

I make the perfectly reasonable assumption that in 2718 refers to a species in the Formicidae family, i.e. the humble ant.

It is certain that ants communicate using sounds, vibrations, and pheromones. The exact nature of this communication, and its meaning is as yet unknown. Although, it is safe to assume that ants communicate for survival purposes, such as indicating to other ants the location of food, communicating their position in the hierarchy, communicating potential dangers from predators, communicating that they are in need of help, etc. These communications are not unique to ants, they can also be found among bees and birds.

What is important to bear in mind is that the entire lexicon of the ant vocabulary has not yet been decoded. There is still much to learn.

Consider the blackbird. It is not yet known by ornithologists why blackbirds burst into song at the two edges of the day and throughout the two twilights. Consider the sounds it produces. Consider how it chirrups, and chirps, and tweets, and sings. Consider how it produces approximately seven or eight distinct songs every minute. And most importantly, consider how the blackbird has never produced two songs that are the same each song that the blackbird produces is utterly unique and there has never been a recording of a blackbird singing the same song twice. Consider the magnitude of imaginative capability required to achieve such a feat and ask yourself if you are content with the explanation of random genetic aberrations.

Consider how we know very little, and resign yourself to the Grandest Designer.

                    Well said uq.

Awesome of you to bring up the blackbird and its unique and intricate bird vocalization.
In my Evolutionary Biology course I was relentlessly unsatisfied with the haphazard explanations.
Most, if not all, of evolution(macroevolution), is ironically parsimony.

2179 And We gave understanding of it (to) Sulaiman, and (to) each We gave judgment and knowledge. And We subjected with Dawud the mountains (to) glorify Our praises and the birds. And We were the Doers.

2441 Do not you see that Allah - glorify Him whoever (is) in the heavens and the earth and the birds (with) wings outspread? Each one verily knows its prayer and its glorification. And Allah (is) All-Knower of what they do.

2717 And were gathered for Sulaiman his hosts of jinn and the men and the birds, and they (were) set in rows.

3410 And certainly, We gave Dawood from Us Bounty. "O mountains! Repeat praises with him, and the birds." And We made pliable for him iron,

3818-19 Indeed, We subjected the mountains with him glorifying in the evening and sunrise. And the birds assembled, all with him repeatedly turning.

Peace, "hands speaking" if not allegoric tell us how "on this earth" -- those hands have mouths or perhaps Italian hands, capisci?

I didn't say "on this earth", I said Judgement Day.

Furthermore, I do not envision mouths on hands. Your imagination and spiritual vision is a bit limited. You are only used to communication being audible and speaking being vocalized in this life but that does not mean that it would be so in the case of hands and feet bearing witness.

As it is not the case for ants communicating with one another and not the case for Sulaiman PERCEIVING their communication (however he was given permission to perceive it).

638 and not from creature in the land and not irin/bird yaru/flyeth with wings two its except communities like you not neglect we of in the book from thing furthermore to lord theirs gathered being

Where does it say they understand human speech and know human names (i.e. strangers marching upon them) etc.,?

No, no, do not forget you and your lot insinuated that if the ant communicated as it did, then it would imply that ants recognize humans and know their names and can make distinction between soldiers and so forth. I never mentioned that ants could understand human speech nor does the Quran mention that. However, it does not mean that they cannot. We have no way of encompassing other creatures' consciousness.

Like uq mentioned all creatures have ways for communication for different situations. Ants as well have their own method for communicating danger, attack, foraging etc...

Lastly, the part which you all who are denying it is exactly the miracle of the narration

                      1. How did even such a minuscule creature know about Sulaiman?
                      2. How did Allah grant Sulaiman favor to PERCEIVE the communication of the ant to the others?

That's the point folks it is a clear miracle. Why does this much seem impossible to you.
Stop entertaining doubt. Your Lord is All-Able.

2716... know we of (plural) maniqa l-ayri

Who are the others (plural) mentioned in verse?

2715 And verily, We gave Dawood and Sulaiman knowledge, and they said, "Praise be to Allah the One Who has favored us over many of His servants the believers."
2716 And inherited Sulaiman Dawood. And he said, "O people! We have been taught (the) language (of) the birds, and we have been given from every thing. Indeed, this surely, it (is) the favor evident."

I don't understand the reason for your question. Sulaiman is addressing his people "O people"

Who was l-hud'huda that said all this 2722-26?

                      Read Quran carefully
                      2720-21
And he inspected the birds(l-tayra) and said, "Why not I see the hoopoe or is he from the absent?
I will surely punish him (with) a punishment severe or I will surely slaughter him unless he brings me a reason clear."

                      https//nationalzoo.si.edu/scbi/migratorybirds/featured_photo/images/bigpic/euho1.jpg
                      This is alhudhuda

Were ants mentioned, which word is languages?

Stop building strawman arguments for yourself. No one mentioned that Quran says that Dawood and Sulaiman were taught the language of ants. Stop attempting to build strawman arguments.
Ants are mentioned in 2718. Sulaiman PERCEIVED the ant's speech and he smiled being amused by her speech.
It is as aforementioned a clear Sign, Miracle from your Lord and Favor from His Lord.

Peruse the word valley and fits perfectly in context they came upon "the valley the ants" (i.e. the valley of underground dwellers); she sounded call "not realizing" he meant them no harm.

2718 until when came they of on wdi/valley l-namli/the ants said (f) namlatun/ant (f) O you l-namlu/the ants enters ye of dwelling place yours not crushed you Suleiman and soldiers his and they not realizing

36 cities, largest housing 20,000 inhabitants, some are 400 meters (4 soccer fields) deep; 4,000+ years old.

                      http//sometimes-interesting.com/2014/05/09/derinkuyu-the-underground-cities-of-cappadocia/

So your only evidence is the word valley, which in fact fits perfectly well with the notion of the actual habitat of ants.
The period in history for such underground cities and Sulaiman's kingdom are not synchronous
The localities of the two are also not proximal.
Occam's razor still stands for your theory.

I might be wrong completely but I thing these are tribes which are referred as alNaml and alTayr in alQuraan.

I might be wrong completely but I thing these are tribes which are referred as alNaml and alTayr in alQuraan.

Would be interesting to see the analysis. Looking forward to it.

I don't understand the reason for your question. Sulaiman is addressing his people "O people"

                            2716 O you l-nsu taught/know we (plural) of maniqa l-ayri

Therefore "many" people were taught/had knowledge of maniqa l-ayri -- right?

Need a lot of time to get details.
I understood it based on aayaat that I have in mind with those words.
InshaAllah I will study and let you know the details.

Peace brother, that is basic when written n/we (plural) not singular or dual rather "they" were taught/knew how to communicate via birds and l-hud'huda was spy (or perhaps his delivery bird) not far away sending notes back and forth.

Here is the entire episode for benefit of others although free to believe "they all" spoke with birds in human speech and vice versa and likewise ants or in magical numerology or flat earth nasa.gov conspiracy or whatever.

Okay that's fine but the hoopoe did not send notes back and forth. It only delivered one letter to the queen after surveying her kingdom.

I still don't get the point you're trying to make. And what is the underlined sentence even about? Are we still having an intelligent discussion?

The cognitive dissonance on this thread is hilarious!! ;D

-Ants talking as if they're humans
                                      -Ants recognising individuals(strangers)
-Ants knowing the names of strangers

The list of absurdity goes on....

Whats next lets discuss how sky/earth talks? P

                                      Oh wait...

Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come , willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly."

No absurdity is too great for a Muslim!

                                        Ya,rational thinking indeed.
Go back a little,as a baby, who gave you the speech and the thinking? So your species of rational thinkers can speak and think and reason?

Let us reason together by asking the following questions
Can the process be reversed? Us created ants and ants created humans?Who will do the speaking and recognising ?
What would the rational thinking be like then as ants?
Is the garment(body and its parts) responsible for the speech and the thinking or is the real person behind it? Who is that?
Even as one species why the different languages and the difficulties in communication with each other?

One can choose now, what I mean -And remember you had no choice in being born a human- would you have had rational thinking if your creator has created you a stone?
Can this creator swap creations? Does the garment really make a difference to the "entity" behind it?
Ya,more rational thinking for you to ponder.
                                        GOD bless.
                                        Peace.

I think God is quite capable of miracles, an chance and anything. He es God. But the thing is in the Qur'an and as far as I can see, in anything else he makes clear His sunna, the way He does things, and His sunna in the material world is cause and effect. Things happen because one thing gives rise to other things all tied with each other. Things arrive through a proccess or a way. Things do not just popo up out of nothing. In fact not only God is quite capable of mircles but in fact EVERYTHING IS A MIRACLE. Existence is a miracle. One cannot ponder tan not be baffled by existnece itself. So in fact what people, not God, call miracles is the same that what people call chance events, evolution through cance events and so on. Both things represent merely ignorance, our ignorance of how that came to be. We do not know how it came to happen ro to be, and to that we call either miracle, if we attribute it to someone, or call it chance if we do not attribute it to someone. The fact is that neither miracle nor chance existe as something proper, just the name we give to sum up our ignorance of the how.

Getting back to SulaymanI tend to think that jinns, hopoes, ants, birds, are people, that are described through those names, may be tribes, may be arme formations, like some even today are called "dragons". Many people have totems, some virtue they attribute to their ancestry and which is shown through an animal, like strength to bulls and power to eagles and faithfulness to dogs. That is and has been very common. Therefore I tend to think along that line. At any rate, Sulayman's animals seem to be quite nice and tame, nothing like snakes or rats or hyenas.

That said, I must say, what are music entrepeneurs doing that they do not get busy noting all the melodies of the blackbirds and produce and sell such scores and recordings. Or may be they have already done so and what people are consuming is pure blackbird musical genius.

                                          Salaam
