There are two masjids en 17.1 tough.If its true what Jafar says and it is Herodts temple which the following ayats are desrcibing and the place where "Masjid al-aksa" is now Standing, on the ruins of that temple?

My opinion is that it is a mystic journey and that no geogrphy is involved, least of all archeology.
Never does the Qur'an dwell onthe architectonic values of anything.
If we want that kind of thing, we should go for that type of litterature.
As to outside the Qur'an nothing has been found under the Mosques in Al Qudds which could be wht it is purported to have been there, but it is a "good excuse" to level the mosques for the sake of a fantastic past of which there is no proof.
If there is something going back to Sulayman it should be in its geography, near the old kingdom of Saba not in Palestine.
The whole idea tht is conveyed by the word masjid is not to convey anything imposing, but rather moving to humility and subservience to God.

So Crisis down there in the east is a political think and not a religious/cultural conflict.
