I am now having a hard time with the idea of stoning. The Quran specifically sais that the penalty for adultery is 100 lashings. Then there is a hadith that distinguishes married penalty from unmarried penalty.....

No where in the Quran does it say that there are two different penalties for two different situations....... I want to know why exactly Mohammed would have said such a thing.....

What makes the idea of this website so difficult for me to understand, is that in order to reject hadith, in a way, (to me anyway) is like rejecting the prophet.......

What made Mohammed say this? Is this a weak hadith or something? Is there anymore on adultery in the quran, or specifically, the subject of stoning? cry

      peace to u,

I would suggest is that, First let the creator guide you. Let this force come in your heart. Use your brain, use your common senses which this force have blessed you with. Try to think by yourself. Only than the creator/Ultimate force can guide you.

You have to ask, whome you wanna follow or understand. do you want to listen to others or the force who speakes to you within yourself?

I think only than you might be able to realize and make the judgement which is best for you and mankind.

      peace

        Peace be upon you Shaunee,

By following the reading(quran) you ARE following the messenger.

The God says "Obey Allah and His messenger(rasool)". The word "rasool" means BOTH messenger and message.

YOU NEVER see "Obey Muhammad", only "Obey the messenger".

We are told NEVER to differentiate between messengers, because they all bring the same message.

SO this reading(quran) is what "Muhammad" followed and it is what we should follow.

LAstly, this reading(quran) says "Which HADITH after this(quran) will they have faith in?"

          Salaam Shaunee,

It is said if the rasool has not brought what is revealed to him then he has not brought Allah's message . We have the hadeeth of nuh in which his wife was an adulterous and there are other ahadeeth in which stoning was what the kafireen wanted to do to the rusul whom they had a mind to stop in their tracks .

You speak of rejecting certain ahadeeth giving you the feeling of rejecting the nabi. Read ayat 2213 which clearly depicts the role of the nabi and you should be able to determine the situation which confuses you.

In ayat 242 the words alzzaniyatu waalzzanee mean the adulteress and the adulterer, or the fornicator and fornicator . In arabic the word zani can mean both adulterer or fornicator.

            Thank you for your responses.

            Speaking of following messengers..........

What are your views when Jesus said "he who is without sin, cast the first stone"?

Now..... another thing that I don't understand is..... does the Quran in some way replace all scriptures before it? I was told on another site that the Quran is sufficient enough, and that Muslims do not go by any other book..... but isn't it somewhere in the Quran where it is said that these books were sent down to the prophets beforehand? What is the statis of the ancient scriptures, and how or why does the Quran superceed them?

The reason I ask is because..... it seems to me that by rejecting any and all scriptures besides Quran, and focusing on only one prophet would seem like all the other prophets and scriptures are worthless in some way. I can't see how that could be.

This is a Biblical exerpt. I believe that it is a way to show us to forgive others for we ourselves need to be forgiven. It is also showing us to have mercy for others, for God is merciful for us and allows us to turn to It .

                Salaam Shaunee,

                Your questions were

does the Quran in some way replace all scriptures before it? I was told on another site that the Quran is sufficient enough, and that Muslims do not go by any other book..... but isn't it somewhere in the Quran where it is said that these books were sent down to the prophets beforehand? What is the statis of the ancient scriptures, and how or why does the Quran superceed them?

The reason I ask is because..... it seems to me that by rejecting any and all scriptures besides Quran, and focusing on only one prophet would seem like all the other prophets and scriptures are worthless in some way. I can't see how that could be.

I don't know if you already read Quran, but if you do, you'll realize that the most important biblical themes are told again, sometimes with rectifications, like Jesus-Issa being not the Gods son, but a prophet like the other prophets. Also rectification of the adultery punishment...

Also, if you read the sura "the prophets" you'll see that in quran we are supposed to accept and respect all the prophets of God, they were all bearers of the same message, which has been reiterated only because we humans changed it's sense and perverted it.

"Traditionnal" muslims or I'd rather say sunnis actually do focus on the prophet, but what we try to do here is to focus on the message and to recover it's primary sense.

I'm sure that, may be Marie, may be someone else with a quran browser and/or a better memory than I , will be able to give you the relevant verses!
