    Salam,

    I would like your input in this.
    Throughout Quran, the terms "those who have submitted" (submitter), believer, hypocrite, rejecter and disbeliever.

    I have come to a preliminary conclusion (I need to study it more) that;

    Submitter Opposite Rejecter
    Believer Opposite Disbeliever
    Between a submitter and rejecter is the hypocrite.

    It will look like this;
    Believer
    Submitter
    Hypocrite
    Rejecter
    Disbeliever

    Basically, just as believer is more advanced than a submitter, a disbeliever is more advanced than a rejecter (they are worse than rejecters).
    A disbeliever is someone who has read the Book and decided to disbelieve. So if a rejecter has read the Book and decided not to submit to God, he becomes a disbeliever. A believer who decides to reject becomes a disbeliever. Those who reject, but never read (or heard?) the Book, will remain rejecters.

    THIS IS ALL PRELIMINARY

    What do you think?

    Salam

      IF Islam is a religion, then classification is relevant.

      But i don't think the quran speaks of islam as a religion.

      Classification leads to division and division contradicts quranic teachings. We are not able to judge what goes on in someone's mind, and most times we are not able to justify our thoughts due to pure emotions. Logic is not common and so is common sense.

        These are found in the Quran, they're not made up. Read the Quran and you'll find how these are used differently.
        Classification is relevant so I know who's a rejecting devil and who's a blessed believer. Huge difference between both. Rejecter is not same as believer.
        You make no sense...

          Salam Alaikum

          Muslims = Those who believe in One God and believe in the Hereafter

          Moumineen = Follower of Prophet Mohammed
          Yahood = Jews
          Nasara = Christians

          Moshrek is opposite of Muslim
          Kafer is opposite of Moumin

          Many ppl think that Muslims are followers of Prophet Mohammed alone, which is not right!

            Peace AbduAlaziz.
            I disagree with ,quote
            Moumineen = Follower of Prophet Mohammed

            Moumeneen are the ones who believe in "Al Haqq"-truth-
            Truth is ,according to qoran,Allah which stands for all the good traitsJustice,peace,good deeds.forgiveness.love,....etc
            Moumineen can be from allwalks of life and all religions. GOD addresses Alaalameen in Qoran,and "YA AYYUHA LLADINA AAMANU" are from all humans,not just followers of Mohammed!!!Of course sometimes they are specifically his followers depending on the context and the subject in Qoran.
            So obviously the opposite "disbelievers" are followers of "BAATIL" oppression,injustice,aggression against people...etc
            GOD bless you.
            Peace.

                Brothers where are you guys pullling these definitions from....
                Stop making up your own definitions!
                Where are the verses which support your claims?
                There should be more than one.
                Other than that you are all merely conjecturing.

                  Here is what GOD is saying to those who claim monopoly for salvation,like Beni Israeel and others like them
                  281

                  282

                  Do you think "Alladina Aamanu wa amilu al ssalihati" are just followers of Mohammed or yours or my religion?

                  This is a general statement referring to all humans.
                  Followers of "AlHaqq" (the truth) are "Alladina Aamanu" and followers of "Al Baatil" are the opposite. GOD has not cited any religion here

                  GOD bless you.
                  Peace..

                    Oh and by the way brothers and sisters, there are also different types of believers according to Qoran, for example
                    (Different ranks but nevertheless still believers)

                        Just out of curiosity hanslan,do you agree with the guy translating the verses?

                        I find him confusing many issues, and of course working towards a certain aim of "no rituals".
                        My opinion.

                          The writer of the article does presents his points more consistent with my understanding of the Quran.

                          I was formerly a regular muslim 33 years ago until i ditched all sources outside the quran. The journey of ditching other rituals took a bit longer although I was never fully committed.

                          I don't believe Islam is a religion, Allah does not need worship thus ritualistic activities are not necessary.

                          From the Quran I know that

                          1. the 2 khalimah syahadah is inconsistent with the Quran.
                          2. solat is more than just ritualistic praying or something else altogether; there is no precise description of how ritual praying needs to be done like it is done today.
                          3. zakat can mean more than the 2.5% tithe or something else altogether.
                          4. Saum is also unclear to me, is it abstaining from food and for what reason should i abstain? If it is to remember the poor who can't afford to eat might as well I feed the poor than abstaining from eating as its like mocking the poor - since you cant afford to eat I shall also abstain from eating - a weird concept. The timing of saum, so much confusion.
                          5. Hajj - all the rituals are not precisely laid out in the quran but translated to be so here and there.

                          According to the Quran what is from Allah needs to be clear to be followed. And Allah's instruction and system through the ages have not change. I cannot be faulted if its unclear to me. Allah says he does not benefit from his creation but his creation is totally dependent on him.

                          What the Quran teaches is a way of life in a community like be humble, work and progress together, self development, building up self discipline, do not create discord, respect other people's rights and beliefs, spread the truth, be dependent on Allah whilst striving to develop one self and the community together etc - in short be like abraham and become a friend of Allah.

                          Yes there are some verses in the Quran like in surah Al-Jumaat that is linked to a specific time for solat ie fajar and isya' and a longer period at night people labeled as tahajjud. I believe these practices are to build self discipline and development and a reminder to ourselves that we are dependent on Allah. These rituals if you want to call it are consistent with Quran's supporting research and development. Those who strive for good and with discipline shall succeed with the help of Allah.

                          Thus the only ritual if any that i keep is the discipline to say thanks and request for help and guidance from Allah as well as more research into the Quran.

                          I have also been to mecca and observed the rituals but to me the rituals are nothing, i can see people kissing the black stone and leaving saliva for other people to kiss (yuck!). The magic people experience in mecca is actually their faith and beliefs that god resides in arabia - i can feel god even in my office writing this post, don't need mecca.

                          The door to our Creator is within us and what a warmth and comforting feeling it is. The qiblat is striving to do good just like abraham did and ultimately may be elevated to the status of a friend to Allah.

                          peace.

                            Thanks hanslan,I was just curious like I said.

                            Qoran is conveying the same old message that Noah, Abraham. Moses Jesus? all conveyed.

                            We are here to work hard/search/ponder... .A lot of effort is required daily to stay out of trouble.
                            ?Love? is the most important of the commands one needs to have in life.
                            Also,I agree that true Islam is a state of a ?clean mind?. A mind that follows GOD s message( righteousness ,good deeds) and accepts ?GOD Alone? as authority regardless of religion, race or nation.
                            GOD bless you.
                            Peace.

                              1. zakat can mean more than the 2.5% tithe or something else altogether.

                              Salam,

                              Zakat is purification of the mind, not charity. Charity is sadaqat in Qur'an.

                              Sawm is prescribed to make people "muttaqi", hence means abstaining of wrongful deeds.
                              Abstaining of food and drink has never made people muttaqi, only irritable.

                              On the other hand, discerning rightful deeds, that is the white thread, from wrongful deeds, that is the black thread, is not possible with a mind full of spiritual confusion, hence contributing to zakat, i.e. purification of the mind is ordered.
                              People are instructed to eat and drink, that is to learn, until they are able to discern the white thread from the black thread.
                              Then only, they are able to perform sawm, i.e. abstain from wrongful deeds.

                                @hanslan,
                                Sawm is basically taking away all that is pleasant and leaving the soul naked. It's a deliberate practice of cutting any means of the self to run away from itself. People, us, flawed people use these pleasant things to cover our flaws (Inconsciously). But in the case of Sawn, these flaws surface and become clear so one can work on oneself. Why ? To polish your mirror that reflects God. Why would you do that ? What else are you here for. To chase every pleasant thing, no. That is what other people do. that is what comes naturally. You want to go against that. because life is a test right ?

                                people are pleased (in a very specific way) when they hate on other people, when they express they anger, when they dwell on their sexual desires and express them, when they feel stressed and eat something delicious to counter it, when they wish for a a 'better' reality, etc etc.
                                To feel what poor people feel ? In general it's envy of the rich, you don't wanna feel that.

                                  peace,

                                  Abstaining of food and drink has never made people muttaqi, only irritable.

                                  You must have amazing insight into the human condition and history to make such an absolutist statement.

                                  Your claim is almost certainly false, but that's ok, we can let readers decide, i.e. what weight shall we assign to Anoushirvan's claims compared to others who have made claims about fasting. Let's see who advocated fasting based on physical/mental/spiritual benefits

                                  The so-called "father of medicine" Hippocrates.

                                  Aristotle (considered one of the smartest people who ever lived by those in secular society).

                                  Plato (again, considered one of the smartest people who ever lived by those in secular society).

                                  Ibn Sina (regarded as one of the greatest thinkers/scientists/polymaths of the Islamic Golden Age).

                                  muttaqi = one who is conscientious/God-conscious/self-preserving/forethoughtful/self-guarding/self-protecting

                                  All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                                    @hanslan,
                                    Sawm is basically taking away all that is pleasant and leaving the soul naked.

                                    You speak of what you have no knowledge of, clearly you're making things up.

                                      No knowledge of what? What abstention means?

                                      The meaning of what you call fasting is to lower the attachment to addictive pleasures in life. It is better to build up a year around general abstention instead of spontaneous fasts though.

                                        Stop making things up. You should drop this weird type of monasticism you've created.

                                          Many do have a problem with food addiction and overeating. We should all practice mindful eating.
