Peace Brothers and Sisters,
I would like to know your individual opinions on the term "Ma malakat aymanukum"(They have relations) only with their spouses, or what is legally theirs (Ma Malakat Aymanuhum)
Only with their spouses, or those who are rightfully theirs (Ma Malakat Aymanhum), do they have sexual relations; they are not to be blamed.
If you chose No or Maybe, then it would be nice if you explain why

(They have relations) only with their spouses, or what is legally theirs ? (Ma Malakat Aymanuhum)

The verb "malakat" in the verse is in past tense. So translation is what their right hands possessed or what was under their oaths.
As per Pervaiz Ahmed in Lughat-ul-Quran, It refers to those slaves who were in their possession before the Quran was revealed. Thats why it is in past tense.

In addition to the above, can anyone provide information from Quran on how to attain/acquire MMA status? If no such information exists, then it almost certainly is referring to the past.

It may refer generally to people in charge. In that case, I do not think the way people become in charge of others may have changed very much. Children are always in someboy's charge till they are able to fend for themselves. Depending on the society and its prosperity, they may continue in charge when they are older, like being in the service of more well off people. People unable to earn their living temporarily or permanently or unble to take care of themselves for whatever reason.
