    Hi,

Could anyne elaborate on this verse? I think it clearly talks about the hijab, covering hair. Because the only beauty you may display to your father or husband's father etc. is your hair. I mean otherwise the verse would mean displaying your private parts and bossoms to the people listed is allowed. That is immodest.

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

      Hi and Peace,
the word translated as beauty is znatahunna, which is translated in Corpus quran also as "adornment", see http//corpus.quran.com/wordbyword.jsp?chapter=24&verse=31#(243121).

For referring the beauty of women the phrase is http//haqeeqat.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Tabweeb%20Part%202/001.%20Roots%20originating%20in%20Surat%20002/2.058/1.%20Mohseneena%20He%20Seen%20Noon/50.gif

The beauty of women by this phrase refers to facial beauty. What are the beauty markers on the face of a woman? These are eyes, nose and cheeks that are the determiners and reflectors of facial beauty.

The facial beauty does not disturb or excite negatively.

        http//haqeeqat.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/024.%20An%20Noor/24.31b.gif

Make up and all other adornments are purposely made or worn. There is no point of their being naturally surfaced above ground level. That is not their Zeenat. It is what they use to make their selves rather holders of some Zeenat, a source of attraction-beautification. Their natural Zeenat-a source of attraction for other sex is their bosoms which are naturally surfaced above chest.

        ?

        Waw Conjunction
        Laam Imperative Particle
        Verb Third person; plural; feminine; Mood Jussive;
        Noon Subject pronoun; feminine.

Verb is transitive. Its object is elided. But is understood by the context-the subject matter of discourse. The nature of the "bossoms" is that they gradually become protuberant surfaced-bulged above the chest of women and become self evident This is the elided object of verb .

The verb needs an instrument-an object to carry it out to achieve its objective. It is described by Prepositional Phrase coupled with possessive phrase "with the use of their respective unsown sheets of cloth".
is plural and is definite being the first noun of construct where the second noun is definite.

The emphasis in the quote is about pre-existence of "headcover" covering head and face. The basic premises of the argument is mere supposition. The issue is neither of hair nor of face but . "And nor they should expose/make eminent/noticeable their attraction except that out of it which has naturally become evident/raised above the surface. "

What to do about that which has already become apparent/surfaced on the chests

"And for this they should draw barrier/distance their surfaced bosoms to obscure with their unsown sheets upon their chests." The object of the verb, included in my translation, is not mentioned since it is understood having already been mentioned "that which has already become prominently surfaced".

And this instruction is for the location while they are in their homes.

        Ayah 2430-31

The key word is yubdina, display. It is not a question of covering or dressing or uncovering but the intent. If something is seen, that does not mean that a display is made of it.

Women are pushed by society almost at all times nd everywhere to make aidsplay of themselve, how much is seen or not seen is not of the essence if it is not display, that is why it is said " " what is seen, see is not the ame as watch, equally to show is not the same as not covered. One can have things not covered and still not show them.

But for women, some people behve as cardinal richelieu who said give me three lines written by the most innocent person on earth and I will find grounds to hang him.

So, the Qur'an, if we squeeze it properly we will get full right to hang every single woman.

          Salaam

          layed.

That still doesn't answer the question.

Can a woman show her private part to the people listed? For example; a woman can walk naked mear her hudban's father?

Because the verse implies that they can.

I do not think Quran would allow that. That is why the "beauty" is mainly about hair and face. Though optional. Just recommended.

I do not speak arabic. The verse clearly implies it if you consider "beauty" as private parts and not as hair or face.

I am trying to understand. There is no need to be aggressive.

We see woman in our homes. Does it mean they show something. They are normally dressed. They can keep aside extra sheets of cloth while in the presence of relatives mentioned.

Faces are open, they don't wear clothes.

Have a look at the Qur'an Chapter 24 verse 31 and 3359. In these ayatin (signs / messages) God is advising women to dress modestly. In 2431 God advises to ~ bikhumurihinna, (take your covers) - which can mean any cover not necessarily a Head scarf - and drape it over your Juybihinna - which translate as CHEST and not HEAD or HAIR, (which is RAS in classical Arabic). Then the verse explains znatahunna as hidden beauty and not ahara that which is apparent. In my humble understanding I do not see how apparent would include head, hair, face, hands or feet? I think that if people read the Classical Arabic as it is meant to be read, instead of relying on religious Clerics to give their own understanding, which more often than not has a hidden agenda, you might find that al Qur'an enlightens you to the true path. Unfortunately the Sectarians insist on woman dressing like 7th century Arabs, this not only promotes oppression of many Women in these countries, but perpetuates the misogynistic ideology.

Modesty is what the Sustainer recommends, not completely shrouding oneself. Here in the West, it is usual to see peoples hair, hands, feet and face. These are referred to in 2431 as ahara (apparent). The verse tells the Women to take their COVERS and DRAW them over their juybihinna, (CHEST, BOSOMS) and not to show their znatahunna, (embellishment, enhancement, beauty). Now what is this znatahunna (embellishment, beauty)? If you carry on reading the verse, God points out that women can relax this dress code in the presence of certain family members, and particularly young children who are not aware of a Woman's awrti (sexual aspects). Thus letting us know that the juybihinna, (CHEST, BOSOMS) are part of the znatahunna, the hidden aspects of a woman's beauty, adornment, and that ahara (apparent) are those things that we take for granted, like eyes, hair, hands, face, feet.Hope this helps?

Make-up is a wonderful invention. I like it! Women are created with zeenat - beauty. We are predisposed to beautify ourselves, in what we wear and how we look. This is a special gift from the Nourisher and Sustainer. Just look at the description of women in Jannah

5622-23. Although this sign is speaking about heaven. The description is one of beauty, that we as women have been endowed with.

314 - Beautified for mankind is love of the joys (that come) from women and offspring; and stored-up heaps of gold and silver, and horses branded (with their mark), and cattle and land. That is comfort of the life of the world. Allah! With Him is a more excellent abode.

1614 - And He committed the sea to serve you; you eat from it tender meat and extract JEWELLERY which you wear. And you see the ships roaming it for your commercial benefits, as you seek His bounties, that you may be appreciative.

If we were to completely shroud ourselves then the above verse would make no sense.

722 - Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of God, which He has brought forth for His servants and good things, clean and pure, which God has provided for His servants?" Say, "They are for the believers in the present life but they shall be exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." Thus We explain Our signs for a people who understand.
