Ramadhan

Why isn't any fixed days or months shown literally, directly in the Quran? Why should we interpret the meaning which may and may not be true.
I mean it would be easier if the Quran would simply tell us how long is fasting and when is the fasting.
What if there is no observable moon? If it is cloudy? How we fast?
What if there is a blue moon. A full moon twice in one month. If it falls on Ramadhan then how do we fast?
-
It is not the date of the fasting that matters but what YOU do during your fasting.
Most people, specially those who argue too much about when to fast, get nothing from their fasting except thirst and hunger, and stress and anger. It is a serious matter and compared to how serious it is, when to fast is just a potato of a question. No offense to potatoes.

So, i can fast whenever I want? Why the Quran mentions specific month? Why does it mention new moon as starting point?
Maybe Ramadhan is not actually a month but any time of the year when it is extremely hot? You fats during the hottest days whatever their numbers is. Since the Quran does not mentioning number of days nor at which moon phase the month ends and since "ramadhan" means heat. That would eliminate the issue of the southern and northern hemisphere timing. And perhaps the issue of blue moon etc. Perhaps the new moon is not even a starting point since Quran never says ramadhan starts at new moon. New moon is simply a way to determine actual, fixed month.
Just my idea. I cannot fast right now anyway because I am ill. And I really do not want to misuse the fasting time.
-
Yes you can fast whenever you want as much as you want. Provided that during your fasting you will proactively work on taming yourself and finding inner peace while being cut off from any possible outer source of comfort/pleasure.
Because on daily basis, we resort to these outer source of comfort/pleasure in order to stabilize ourselves, since as weak as we are we have little or limited control over ourselves and fasting is one way of changing that. To establish and strengthen control over ourselves is the aim of it.
Now with this philosophy in mind, moons, new moons, blue moons, hemispheres, none of it matters.

But the Quran does talk about the moons etc. No?

This is a caption which has been well discussed in this forum under headline Ramadhan?
Your concern is fair but you have not produced here your complete understanding according to Quran, so that one could respond accordingly?.Note, please, whatever others explain about quran is irrelevant to any individual when he or she feels the way he or she grasped it, unless his or her understanding is clearly explained by others as erroneous and he or she feels it what others explained is correct and not his or her understanding? then he or she has to ponder and change to the extreme truth, rather than what he or she understood previously.. It means when the knowledge is manifest we cannot deny and persevere with our blindness? That?s quran? past is past? That?s why God only guides..
With the above note let me explain what I have understood from Quran about abstinence (Siyam), and what I practice?
What is fasting?
2-183-187..
We have to leave certain worldly pleasures as GOD has advised which are extremely permitted by God generally.
Why we need to fast?
2183 / O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious ).
.. Key is, to become MUTTAQUN (The Pious).. what is MUTTAQUN? 23-5 (?Who believe in the unseen, establish Salat(moral/bond), and spend out of what We have provided for them, And who believe in what has been revealed to you, , and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain , Those are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful?) THIS IS MUTTAQUN?
So this is basic of MUTTAQUN, fasting is not mentioned here? But 2183 indicates if you fast so that you may become / enter the level of MUTTAQUN?So, strongly I believe, fasting is not Obligatory to reach our final GOAL (Jannah)? But, by keeping abstinence as the way God has revealed We may become MUTTAQUN.. Muttaqun is not an easy level to achieve? MUSLIM / MUMIN / ? / MUTTAQUN / SAADIQUN are levels which a human can achieve with one GOD belief ? It doesn?t mean only the MUTTAQUN will reach the pleasure land? but They will definitely have their level high because of the commitment they applied throughout their life with maximum effort and sacrifice?
Accordingly, don?t confuse the fasting with utmost pressure to your head? Even you don?t fast you wont end up in HELL.. that?s so obvious... as long as you stick to the basic rules of God which is compulsory?Fasting is not compulsory for the salvation and for the one who don?t fast there is not physical penalties prescribed in this world or hereafter?
By not fasting You don?t reject the verses of GOD like we reject the creations of God in it?s true form, but you only will lose your benefit which is prepared for you (2184 ?? and that you fast is better for you, if you but know?) -

Brother The Sardar, if you think those who fast are doing it for fear of punishment, you have no idea what is fasting and why one should fast!!!!
But of course the choice still exist as long as free will exist . One does not have to fast if they do not want to.
GOD bless you.
Peace. -

Peace.Well i tried to fast but i failed miserably because i suck at it but i do believe it does bring good benefits so i keep trying. Bold I never said anything about those fast are doing it because of fear of punishment.

Peace The Sardar.
Do not worry if you cannot do sawm. GOD is forgiver most merciful. The main thing is to stay loyal to GOD Alone and do your best to be a good and peaceful human.
GOD bless you.

Why isn't any fixed days or months shown literally, directly in the Quran? Why should we interpret the meaning which may and may not be true.
I mean it would be easier if the Quran would simply tell us how long is fasting and when is the fasting.
The problem is not the Quran. The problem is the people who destroyed the true Arabic calendar.
The Quran specified exactly the number of days and the correct period during which we should fast => the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is one of 12 months in the traditional Arabic calendar. However, a few centuries after the Message of Islam was revealed (around the same time that other corruptions started to infiltrate our religion, such as ?hadith?), people changed the Arabic calendar. There is a simple and undeniable proof showing that the modern Arabic calendar is not the correct one that Arabs at the time of Muhammad used to follow The names of the months.
In the Arabic calendar, a month?s name reflects a specific season, an important agricultural event, a certain animal mating period, etc.
For example• ?Rabi? al-awwal? literally means ?the first spring?. It?s not logical to have ?first spring? sometimes in spring, sometimes in winter, sometimes in summer, etc.
• ?Jumada al-ula? is in reference to harvest season (of grains). The word ?Jumada? describes the plants (mainly wheat and tares) that become dry and ready for harvest at this time. This event occurs during the same period every year, and does not change seasons.
• ?Shawwal? refers to the mating season of camels. Once again, this is a very time-specific event that is not supposed to change seasons from year to year.
All of the names of the months in the Arabic calendar indicate precise times of the year that are dependent of the season. Unfortunately, as we all know, the way modern Muslims follow the Arabic calendar is problematic. Months and seasons are out of sync.
The reason this problem did not exist in the past (despite Arabs following a lunar calendar) is because they used to add an intercalary month after a certain period of time in order to readjust the calendar (and bring it back in sync).
It?s important to note that Arabs were not the only nation that did this. Many ancient civilizations that followed a lunar calendar, such as the Romans (before they switch to a solar calendar like the Egyptians), used to add an intercalary month every few years, in order to bring back the months in sync with the seasons.
https//www.livescience.com/45650-calendar-history.html
However, in the Roman Empire, only the Pontifices (priests) determined the intercalations. This gave them political power, since an elected leader could pay them to add the intercalations during his rule (therefore extending his term as a leader).
Similarly with the Arabs, only the ?addadun? (ن were keeping track of the calendar. And they are the ones who were supposed to determine the intercalations. However, they were also corrupted for political reasons. Different Arab tribes used to make time-dependent treaties with each other. For instance, they would all decide that during certain months there would be no war. If two tribes are in conflict, they would have to delay the battle until the peace period was over. But sometimes, if a tribe felt that it was not ready to face its opponent in war, it would pay the ?addadun? in order to lengthen the peace period (by adding the intercalations). This is an example of how they abused the intercalations. When the Quran was revealed, God explained (in verse 937) that such behavior is evil.
Centuries after Muhammad passed away, people started relying on the lies falsely attributed to the Messenger (aka hadith) in order to understand the Quran. One of these ?hadith? called the ?farewell sermon? supposedly declares that there shall not be any intercalations.
So, Muslims stopped using intercalations to readjust the months. And that?s how they fell out of sync with the seasons.
Yet, in verse 937, God does not forbid intercalations. Rather, He forbids abusing the intercalations, meaning we are not supposed to add them or remove them randomly. Intercalations must only to be added during certain, regulated, pre-determined years. (This is similar to the extra day in February added every 4 years, for those who follow a solar calendar).
Intercalations were not forbidden by God. On the contrary, they are necessary to re-establish the correct calendar by ensuring that months and seasons do not go out of sync from year to year. Conclusion As explained above, the Quran does tell us how long is fasting (1 month) and when the fasting is (Ramadan). The problem is the people who messed up the Arabic calendar and deranged it.

What if there is no observable moon? If it is cloudy? How we fast?
What if there is a blue moon. A full moon twice in one month. If it falls on Ramadhan then how do we fast?
In the Quran, when God tells us to ?observe? the month this means that we must be sure of the month when we fast. In other words, we cannot just ?guess? or do it randomly.
That being said, observations are not only done with the eyes. Humans are also capable of making observations with their minds.
That?s why for example, in verse 2246, when describing the deniers of truth as ?blind?, God says that it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts. This is an allegory that hints to the fact that we are capable of ?seeing? (and thus making observations) not just with our eyes, but with our minds as well.Even in English, we use the expression ?I see? to mean ?I understand?. Similarly in Arabic, to say ?in my opinion??, we can use the expression ?I see that?? (... ّ. You can find this in many other languages. It?s very interesting because it shows us that ?seeing? or ?observations? can be done with the mind, not just with the eyes.
It is therefore easy to see that verse 2185 could refer to observations that mathematicians and astrophysicists reach with their minds. These calculations are very precise and would give us a consistent result, no matter how cloudy the night is, and no matter how unique that moon is

The Sardar?. Pity to hear that you have not been given the strength to fast by God?.. but No worries that you can?t fast, but you have tried that?s why you say that you failed.. Anyhow it won?t make anything less in your belief? Your belief and your heart is with your Lord.. He will decide who you are? Keep up the good works which you have strength to perform? (231-9 fasting excluded for real success, fasting is optional but definitely has it?s hidden benefit)
For me CHARITY is the KEY and PRIORITIZED?.. without charity I wonder anyone can near the paradise?..charity appears throughout the quran
6310 ?And spend from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, "My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous." (note he didn?t say I would go and fast)
392 Never will you attain the good until you spend from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.
2274 Those who spend their wealth by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.
3647 ?And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."One would now ponder, if fasting is not compulsory, why God asked us to fast, and why we were requested to fast if we are sick or on journey on other fixed days, and why we have to give charity if we are unable to fast if fasting is not compulsory?
Yes these all part of nourishing the level of Muttaqun?. If we fast we get the benefit? if not most probably not? we have been asked to fast on other days, since we want to get the same benefit of fasting.. it is only given as consolation to fast other days coz of sick or on journey so that we would not miss that benefit prepared for us?God makes things easy for us?. in the end if one is totally not able to fast, still by way of CHARITY it could be reached (though fasting is better on the assigned AYYAMIN MA?DUDATH)?
Don?t anyone think that by only fasting we can reach the level of Muttaqun? Muttaqun is someone who has achieved it by following God?s revelation and fasting is just minute part of it (22-6 & 5115-17) -

I feel so ashamed of myself for not doing it. T_T

So, strongly I believe, fasting is not Obligatory to reach our final GOAL (Jannah)? But, by keeping abstinence as the way God has revealed We may become MUTTAQUN.. Muttaqun is not an easy level to achieve? MUSLIM / MUMIN / ? / MUTTAQUN / SAADIQUN are levels which a human can achieve with one GOD belief ? It doesn?t mean only the MUTTAQUN will reach the pleasure land? but They will definitely have their level high because of the commitment they applied throughout their life with maximum effort and sacrifice?
WOW...
so this means , i too can get on the same level as the prophets...... and SAADIQUN is highest level that we can reach ??
do you know also if this highligted in the Quran??? i mean some degree on the levels to become ?? ....

Don't panic The Sardar... You have done little charity with little money you had.. What else you can do... did God ask us to give charity everything we have.. No.. God orders not to be foolish and be intelligent.. But don't be stingy.. Your heart speaks u feel ashamed.. That's great in the eyes of God... Coz God knows your heart... Feeling ashamed truly is definitely a penitence to God... And still u are alive, and no need to feel bothered too, still u can involve in charity... BTW.. Charity is not to poor always.. As far as QURAN charity begins inside family relatives.. Then only others... And charity is not always money.. But charity is what we love to our selves.. I mean the things that we love... If u love knowledge and if u pass it to others free that's charity... If u love physical help and if u do that to others that's charity.. If u love others happiness and if u show kindness of words then it's charity.. If u have relatives and if u feed them in case they need your assistance to feed that's charity... Explore what is charity with the tone of verses of Quran.... Of course if u love money n wealth n if u spend it on reletives n poor etc then that's charity... If u do social service then it's charity... But all should b for God's pleasure n not in return any expectations from the one who received it... They are successful... Of course the who initiated this site is charity as long as his her intenion is passing God's message.. Charity can be achieved from dawn to dusk when u r with people, coz u come across a lot of eventful things on busy life.. Use it.. After all God loves good hearts with true belief...
Why God has given this much impact to charity? Coz what we posses as wealth etc which we love is of God's n not ours... And to give them to others is only can be done by clean heart n righteous people... But that will be in vain if u expect in return from the recipient n if not a believer as well then all in vain... -
I think it is safe to say that most people miss out on the real benefit of charity, in the way that it is supposed to be about giving away what we cherish the most and not what is extra. Sure, giving away the extra instead of throwing it might be a better idea, but giving away that which is held valuable to our eyes is a whole different thing.

@kaltun
Good to be excited but need hard work.. You know one thing dear.. When u love to be in the level of prophets then God's tests will increase in you from every step in your life.. I mean when we start cultivate our belief more and more our tests increase and that's very scary sometimes.. Coz those who cannot handle that will lose hope and fall as victims and may become weaker or become loss of hope in God.. Those prophets or Sadiqun were great patients and kept their duty to utmost and never slacken from the hope of God and path of him... O dear trust me it's not easy during the course of life... Every heart knows... Meanwhile prophets were human and has encountered with various things and mistakes of any general man could do... But they achieved and overcame the ultimate goal with the life full of tests.. Test of higher level believers and just simple man varies.. Tests for muttaqun or Sadiqun may be not easily bearable as a simple Muslim or mumin.. If I simply say... In a game beginner intermediate advanced and expert has its level of stress..but all play the same game but with different level..And yes levels (darajah) in Jannah there.. definitely that's clearly highlighted in Quran verses.. These levels are based on each individual's cultivation of soul and how they faced the test of life... God is not unfair by keeping level even in jannah .. If one play expert game does he / she deserve beginner medal or expert? God is just
