(582)Those among you who have estranged their women; they can never be made as their mothers, for their mothers are those who gave birth to them. Indeed, they are uttering what is strange and a falsehood. And God is Pardoner, Forgiver.

    (336) The prophet is closer to the believers than themselves, and his wives are mothers to them. And the decree of God to the believers and the emigrants is that before they help their relatives, they have taken care of their own families first. Such has been decreed in the Book.

Those are different contets and clearly different questions.

The first points out the bad faith of those who would divorce their women unrightfully wronging them by abusing language, by abuing the nme mother to abuse women.

O the other hand by calling the wives of the prophets mothers of the believers it is stressing the spiritual condition of the believers to one another and to the prophet as aginst those who would be hypocrites or other fakes.

I do not see any contradiction, although if somebody wants to split hairs to find fault, I guess that is something he or she would seek out and relish.

The fact th the Qur'an dares to give such an easy target for that kind of thing is to me a proof tht Qur'an addressess people of good faith and not those of bad faith. If they ae happy with this finding, well ... for ll the good it is going to do them...

Words "mother" and "father" are also used for honorific titles.

          582 & 336 in context

          336 verses before & after

          331
Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyuittaqi Allaha wala tutiAAi alkafireenawaalmunafiqeena inna Allaha kanaAAaleeman hakeeman
O prophet, you shall be aware of God, and do not obey the rejecters and the hypocrites. God is Knowledgeable, Wise.

          332
WaittabiAA ma yoohailayka min rabbika inna Allaha kana bimataAAmaloona khabeeran
And follow what is being inspired to you by your Lord. God is fully aware of all that you do.

          333
          Watawakkal AAala Allahi wakafabiAllahi wakeelan
And put your trust in God. God suffices as an advocate.

          334
Ma jaAAala Allahu lirajulin minqalbayni fee jawfihi wama jaAAala azwajakumu alla-eetuthahiroona minhunna ommahatikum wamajaAAala adAAiyaakum abnaakum thalikumqawlukum bi-afwahikum waAllahu yaqoolu alhaqqawahuwa yahdee alssabeela
God did not make any man with two hearts in his body. Nor did He make your wives whom you make estranged to be your mothers. Nor did He make your adopted children to be your sons. Such is what you claim with your mouths, but God speaks the truth, and He guides to the path.

          335
OdAAoohum li-aba-ihim huwa aqsatuAAinda Allahi fa-in lam taAAlamoo abaahumfa-ikhwanukum fee alddeeni wamawaleekumwalaysa AAalaykum junahun feema akhta/tumbihi walakin ma taAAammadat quloobukum wakanaAllahu ghafooran raheeman
Name them by their fathers. That is more just with God. But if you do not know their fathers, then, name them as your brothers in the system and your patrons. There is no sin upon you for what mistake you make in this respect; but you will be responsible for what your hearts deliberately intend. God is Forgiver, Merciful.

          336
Alnnabiyyu awla bialmu/mineenamin anfusihim waazwajuhu ommahatuhum waoloo al-arhamibaAAduhum awla bibaAAdin fee kitabiAllahi mina almu/mineena waalmuhajireena illaan tafAAaloo ila awliya-ikum maAAroofan kanathalika fee alkitabi mastooran
The prophet is closer to the believers than themselves, and his wives are mothers to them. And the decree of God to the believers and the emigrants is that before they help their relatives, they have taken care of their own families first. Such has been decreed in the Book.

          337
Wa-ith akhathna mina alnnabiyyeenameethaqahum waminka wamin noohin wa-ibraheemawamoosa waAAeesa ibni maryama waakhathnaminhum meethaqan ghaleethan
And when We took from the prophets their covenant. And from you, and from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary; We took from them a solemn covenant.

          582 verses before & after

          581
Qad samiAAa Allahu qawla allatee tujadilukafee zawjiha watashtakee ila Allahi waAllahuyasmaAAu tahawurakuma inna Allaha sameeAAunbaseerun
God has heard the woman who has argued with you regarding her husband, and she complained to God. And God hears the argument between you. God is Hearer, Seer.

          582
Allatheena yuthahiroonaminkum min nisa-ihim ma hunna ommahatihim inommahatuhum illa alla-ee waladnahumwa-innahum layaqooloona munkaran mina alqawli wazooran wa-innaAllaha laAAafuwwun ghafoorun
Those among you who have estranged their women; they can never be made as their mothers, for their mothers are those who gave birth to them. Indeed, they are uttering what is strange and a falsehood. And God is Pardoner, Forgiver.

          583
Waallatheena yuthahiroonamin nisa-ihim thumma yaAAoodoona lima qaloofatahreeru raqabatin min qabli an yatamassa thalikumtooAAathoona bihi waAllahu bimataAAmaloona khabeerun
Those who had estranged their women, then they retracted what they had said, they shall free a slave before they have sexual contact between them. This is to enlighten you. God is well aware of everything you do.

          584
Faman lam yajid fasiyamushahrayni mutatabiAAayni min qabli an yatamassafaman lam yastatiAA fa-itAAamu sitteenamiskeenan thalika litu/minoo biAllahiwarasoolihi watilka hudoodu Allahi walilkafireenaAAathabun aleemun
If he cannot find any, then he shall abstain/fast two consecutive months before any sexual contact between them. If he cannot, then he shall feed sixty poor people. That is so you would believe in God and His messenger. And these are the boundaries set by God. The disbelievers have incurred a painful retribution.

          585
Inna allatheena yuhaddoona Allahawarasoolahu kubitoo kama kubita allatheena minqablihim waqad anzalna ayatin bayyinatinwalilkafireena AAathabun muheenun
Those who oppose God and His messenger will be disgraced, like their previous counterparts were disgraced. We have sent down clear proofs, and the rejecters have incurred a shameful retribution.

          586
Yawma yabAAathuhumu Allahu jameeAAanfayunabbi-ohum bima AAamiloo ahsahu Allahuwanasoohu waAllahu AAala kulli shay-inshaheedun
The Day when God resurrects them all, then He informs them of what they had done. God has recorded it, while they have forgotten it. God witnesses all things.

          As sister Huruf said

Totally agree with you sis. There is no contradiction in the book but in the interpretation by people without understanding context.

The context is some what same.
Problem is in 582 saying "their mothers are those who gave birth to them" in 334 it does not say that , then in 336 prophet wives becomes our mother's without giving birth to us.

What is the context I don't get it

But the best interpretation for ", Prophet Wives are mother of the believers" meaning Do not marry them as in 3353

Loyalty to the Prophet ; and his wives are Mothers of the Believers

Allah tells us how His Messenger is merciful and sincere towards his Ummah, and how he is closer to them than they are to themselves. His judgement or ruling takes precedence over their own choices for themselves, as Allah says

But no, by your Lord, they can have no faith, until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept with full submission. (465)

                In the Sahih it says

By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, none of you truly believes until I am dearer to him than his own self, his wealth, his children and all the people.

It was also reported in the Sahih that Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said

"O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, you are dearer to me than everything except myself."

                He said,

No, O Umar, not until I am dearer to you than yourself.

Umar said"O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, now you are dearer to me than everything, even myself."

                He said,

Now, O Umar (you have got it right).

                Allah says in this Ayah

The Prophet is closer to the believers than themselves,

Concerning this Ayah, Al-Bukhari narrated from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet said

There is no believer except I am the closest of all people to him in this world and in the Hereafter. Recite, if you wish

(The Prophet is closer to the believers than themselves).

If any believer leaves behind any wealth, let his own relatives inherit it, but if he leaves behind any debt or orphans, bring them to me and I will take care of them.

This was recorded only by Al-Bukhari, and he also recorded it in the Book of Loans.

and his wives are their mothers.

means, they are unlawful for marriage.

In terms of honor, respect and veneration, it is not permissible for them to be alone with them, and the prohibition of marriage to them does not extend to their daughters and sisters, according to scholarly consensus.

And blood relations among each other have closer personal ties in the decree of Allah than the believers and the Muhajirin,

This is an abrogation of the rule that existed previously, whereby they could inherit from one another by virtue of the oath of brotherhood among them.

                Ibn Abbas and others said

"A Muhajir would inherit from an Ansari even though they were not related by blood, because of the brotherhood established between them by the Messenger of Allah."

This was also stated by Sa`id bin Jubayr and others among scholars of the earlier and later generations.

except that you do kindness to those brothers.

means, the idea of inheriting from one another has gone, but there remains the duty to offer support and kindness, to uphold ties of brotherhood and to offer good advice.

This has been written in the Book.

This ruling, which is that those who are blood relatives have closer personal ties to one another, is a ruling which Allah has decreed and which is written in the First Book which cannot be altered or changed.

This is the view of Mujahid and others.

(This is the case) even though Allah legislated something different at certain times, and there is wisdom behind this, for He knew that this would be abrogated and the original ruling that was instituted an eternity ago would prevail, and this is His universal and legislative decree.

                And Allah knows best.

What is the context I don't get it

582 is telling those, who tell their wives that they are like their mothers and make it a reason to separate them in marriage relation, that your mothers are those who gave birth to you. Here it is a legal issue that they cannot leave their wives by saying they are their mothers as they have already married them.

336 is telling believers that Prophet's wives are their mothers (although they did not gave birth to them) and to not marry them as per 3353.

Like brother Mazhar wrote declaring Prophet's wives as mothers is a matter of respect.

Those among you who have estranged their women; they can never be made as their mothers, for their mothers are those who gave birth to them. Indeed, they are uttering what is strange and a falsehood. And God is Pardoner, Forgiver.

That is so you would believe in God and His messenger. And these are the boundaries set by God. The disbelievers have incurred a painful retribution.

Those who oppose God and His messenger will be disgraced, like their previous counterparts were disgraced. We have sent down clear proofs, and the rejecters have incurred a shameful retribution.

Asnovice pointed out you cnot leglle make your mother just by your own words somebody who is ot your mother it is a lgeal and factul matter.

However, with the wives of the rohet it is not legal but a siritual matter. Novice ointed out that the mother art makes it imossible for men to marry the wives of the roht, I do not think that it is a legal matter when they are called mothers of the believers in that sense, because I do not get from the text that they are only mothers of the mle believers, and th fact tht it an becontrasted with the nothers are only those who bore you I do not give it ny legal value. The rohibition to marry the wives o he rohet is already clearly stated somewhere else, so this mothers of the believrs as I understad it is not a legl question and ot rely either atter of resect, but a question of siritual linneage. The wives of the prophet gave u mondanity and material values for the sake of truth and God, to be called dughters and sons of such mothers should help us long following heir examle and value the filiation to God above anything else. It is a help to know that our value is not in how popular or beautiful we are,not even in how likeable or leasant are for ohers, but in our sincere commitment to God.

In that is a lesson. It is not a coincidence tht the prohet had a vriety of wives, some, accordig to hadith, even very hard to put up with, just like amogst people we do not like everybody, but we do not have to be liked, we have to be sincere and aithful to God, that is the daughters and sons of the mothers of the believers. They were not chosen by youth or beauty or docility, but by faith.

                                No.

Actually it is because you are basing off a tafsir from a website called the greentech app. Why did you copy paste a tafsir from a hadith based website when Allah/God (SWTAY) said this

                                From http//mypercept.co.uk/articles/Quran_clear_complete_detailed_explained.htm

We have sent down to you clear verses...

Shall I seek other than GOD as a judge when He has sent down to you the book fully clarified? Those whom We have given the book know it is sent down from your Lord with truth; so do not be of those who have doubt. And the word of your Lord is completed with truth and justice, there is no changing His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower.

And this your Lord's straight path; We have clarified the revelations to a people who remember.

And We have come to them with a book which We have distinguished with knowledge; a guide and a mercy to those who have faith.

This Quran could not have been produced without GOD, but it is to authenticate what is already present, and to clarify the book in which there is no doubt from the Lord of the worlds.

A.L.R., a book whose verses were made decisive, then clarified from One who is Wise, Expert.

In their stories is a lesson for the people of intelligence. It was not a saying that was invented, but an authentication of what is already present and a clarification of all things, and a guidance and mercy to a people who have faith.

And the day We send in every nation a witness against them from themselves, and We have brought you as a witness against these. And We have sent down to you the Book as a explanation for all things, and a guide and mercy and good tidings to the Submitters.

...And everything We have distinctly/clearly explained.
And We have cited in this Quran every example for the people. But man was always most argumentative.

Say 'if the sea were an inkwell for the words of my Lord, then the sea would run out before the words of my Lord run out; even if we were to bring another like it for its aid'.

O you who faith, let those whom your right hand possesses and the children who have not attained puberty request permission from you at three times. Before the Dawn salat, and when you are changing your clothes at noon, and after the Dusk salat. These are three private times for you. At other times, it is not wrong for you or them to mingle with one another. GOD thus clarifies the revelations for you. And GOD is Knowledgeable, Wise.

A revelation from the Almighty, The Merciful A scripture whose verses are made distinct/clear, a reading in Arabic for people who know.

                                And by the clear scripture.

Apparently these Ayas appear to be pointing to different themes, however there could be a relationship. Why would a serious believer and a companion of the prophet call his wife his mother except for confusion about his understanding about some Ayas of Quran. Quran says that the wives of the prophet are mothers of the believers. This case is for those women who are physically wedded to the prophet. Any woman who dedicates her soul to the prophet and become a psychological pair to him, does not have any physical relationship with the prophet and therefore does not become the mother of her husband. The below Ayas will make this concept clearer

                                    3350

O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee your wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom your right hand possesses, whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her nafs to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and those (whose relationships) they possess rightfully;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

There is a special case mentioned in this Ayat about a believing woman who dedicates her nafs/psyche to the prophet. This woman as a special case which is not for other believers, can be made a pair with the prophet. This pairing of the woman with prophet can be a wedding if the prophet wills it, and of course if the woman is single. If the woman is not single, this pairing will be psychological only, without affecting the marital life of the woman in any way. The mental pairing will be for the advancement of belief of the woman. This mental pairing is the special case mentioned in the Ayat for the prophet, as marrying a single woman is not a special case and any believing man can marry a single woman.

Now lets consider that the husband of the wife who made a psychological pair with the prophet, did not understand this concept and he assumed that his wife has become his mother per Ayat 336

Therefore this man called his wife his mother and their family life was disturbed. The woman obviously was disturbed and she complained to Allah

                                    581-2

Allah has indeed heard the statement of the woman who pleads with thee concerning her husband and carries her complaint to Allah. and Allah hears the arguments of you both. For Allah hears and sees (all). If any men among you declare their wives (calling them mothers), they cannot be their mothers. None can be their mothers except those who gave them birth. And in fact they use strange words and false, but truly Allah is one that blots out (sins), and forgives.

Allah declares that your wives don't become your mothers from your words.

                                    334

Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his (one) body, nor has He made your wives whom ye declare (by Zihar) your mothers. nor has He made your adopted sons your sons. Such is (only) your words by your mouths. But Allah tells the Truth, and He shows the (right) Way.

although by two statements one can see its a contradiction BUT only if the wives of prophet adressed as mother of only male believers.

i dnt think so its anything like contradiction in it?
i sometimes say mother to the womens who are at the age of my mother so its like a title of respect

Why would a serious believer and a companion of the prophet call his wife his mother except for confusion about his understanding about some Ayas of Quran. Quran says that the wives of the prophet are mothers of the believers. This case is for those women who are physically wedded to the prophet. Any woman who dedicates her soul to the prophet and makes a psychological pair with him, does not have any physical relationship with the prophet and therefore does not become the mother to her husband.

                                          334

Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his (one) body, nor has He made your wives whom ye declare (by Zihar) your mothers. nor has He made your 'called' sons your sons. Such is (only) your words by your mouths. But Allah tells the Truth, and He shows the (right) Way.

And further the Prophets confirms this concept to the companion

                                          3337

Behold! When you (the prophet) said to the one who had received the grace of Allah and your favour. "Retain your wife and fear Allah; you hide in your heart which Allah is about to make manifest and you fear people, but it is more fitting that you should fear Allah."
Then when Zaid completed from her requirements, We made her a (psychological) pair with you (the prophet). In order that there may be no difficulty to the believers in matter of their calling of wives, when they complete requirements with them, and Allah's command is bound to happen.

In the above Ayat, Prophet tells Zaid, to hold on to his wife and fear Allah and don't fear people. The prophet further tells Zaid, that Zaid is hiding in his nafs something which is bothering him, however, Zaid should not fear people but fear Allah. Traditional translations of this Ayat, don't do justice to Prophets exemplary character. People of even ordinary character when they have feelings for a particular woman, and when the woman gets married to someone else, they let that feeling go, which is an appropriate thing to do. To imagine, that the prophet was harboring secret feelings for wife of a brother muslim, is insulting to the exemplary character of the prophet.

This concept is not what the Ayat is about. Ayat is telling that Zaid was disturbed that his wife, if made a psychological pair with the prophet, she could become his mother. However, the prophet told him to hold on to his wife in marriage and don't fear people as the spritual pairing with the prophet is spiritual only and does not affect his marriage in anyway. Understanding of this concept by Zaid, was the requirement after which there is no difficulty on believers for anyone to object on his relationship with his wife.
