Any converts here?
-
hi all,
When we follow God alone principles, most of us here share the personal experience of having to deal with the majority of people who do not share our views but believe in hadith etc. Now, there's many interesting stories here about those who were born muslim/catholic and were guided to what we consider real Islam, and dealth with the hadith(/other crap) believing public. However, are there any believers here who came from a non-monotheistic background (e.g. hindu?) just curious to know what your experiences were, and the stuff you might have had to deal with especially with close friends and family who were non-believers/idol worshippers, there reactions/objections etc. Ito your adopting islam. I would describe my experiences but dont exactly have many yet, might learn from any others.

I call myself a convert from Sunniism, because if you think about it I was indeed following restrictions imposed by someone other than God, when it came to diet, dress, my attitude...even the way I clipped my nails! I've left all that, thus, I believe I am a convert to Islam as I left my old "religion".
My junior year, there was a study abroad program where we all went to India for 6 months and I saw a Hindu family that had convereted to Sunnisim. It was strange because not often you see people from Hindusim converting to almost monotheistic faiths.

Greenleaves, you wont find many hindus converting because most people, at least the one i know who come from polytheistic faiths especially hinduism obviously do not believe in judgement day, nor do they know abt it, and thus the concept of consequence does not exist in their minds. Most of the multiple god believers i know tend to believe that as long as ur a "good" human being, and u worship god in any which way, it really doesnt matter. The rules defining good and bad and worship are compeltely man made. No judgement day means they have nothing to fear, so the rules are made up depending on how far the rule maker can imagine.
I know this becoz i come from that culture. -
