    Salam to All,

2431 And tell the believing females to lower their gaze and keep covered their private parts, and that they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent, and let them put forth their shawls over their cleavage. And let them not reveal their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or those maintained by their oaths, or the male servants who are without need, orthe child who has not yet understood the composition of women. And let them not strike with their feet in a manner that reveals what they are keeping hidden of their beauty. And repent to God, all of you believers, that you may succeed.

... and that they should not reveal their beauty

What is this beauty? E.g putting make up like lipsticks, eyeshadows trimming eyebrows and so forth to be more beautiful or to beautiful.

Is that what it means? Ornamental beauty. Or what does it mean by "not reveal their beauty"

Second thing what does the statement ".....lower your gaze" means

    God bless all

That word ziina has been translated differnetly, some translate adornments, some translate charms, and in the trnaslation you quote it says beauty. "Adornmente seems to be the preferred term.

The thing is that in this aya there is no mistery, no big feat of engineering to awe the world. What it is talking about is about the most common of things. The same as 24.30.
Say to the believers (male), that they cast down their eyes and guard their private parts; that is purer for them. God is aware of the things they work. (30)

What is it saying? Is it so misterious? Do not look the way you shouldn't particularly to women. Is it a mistery what ould be purer for them? That they look respectfully and ithout invading th intimacy of anybody, particularly women.

God is aware of what they do.
Meaning do not put up a show as if you were behaving honourably when you know and God knows that in fact you are being shameless, for instance.

Don't we know what e are being tol? Do e want that there should be there something else, something that is unfathomable, misterious.

If you see what it says in aya 31 as con contrast with 30, women are not addressed as tu purity, seems that that is a orse danger for them males than for them females, but females are told not to make a show of themselves, not to expose themselves as a merchandise. They are not being given a list as to what they should dress ith but as to their baheaviour, mentality and outlook. They are not a merchandise, they are soverigns, they should not parade as if begging for anybody's attention. Just be normal. Just that, do not exhibit. Just be normal and do not feel that you should or could do better by exhibiting yourself.

Adn I mean exhibit, exhibit is not the same thing as that something is seen. Your face or whatever part of your body or your clothes or adornment may be seen but that is not calling anbyody's attention unless you exhibit it, or unless of course, there are the impure lookers finding what they are looking for by hook or crook.

Most of the Qur'an is not misterious when talks about behaviour. It is what e all kno, hat humans have always known. e are being reminded merely, because even if we kno, we tend to forget, to override because it is fashion, it is convenient or it is so easy. We are reminded. Women are sovereigns, not objects, they should have, for their own good, self-respect, not submit to be a show or beg for attention.

Males and females should respect themselves and their human dignity. It is not the details of apparel or dress or movements, but the outlook and mentality, should be of self-respect and respect for others.

As they say, do not look for noon at 4 in the afternoon.

      Salaam

        Analysis here
        http//www.misconceptions-about-islam.com/dress-code-women-veil.htm

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts, for that is purer for them. God is fully aware of what you do.
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts, and that they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent of it, and let them draw with their covers over their chests. And let them not reveal their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or those committed to them by oath, or the male servants who are without need, or the child who has not yet understood the composition of women. And let them not strike with their feet that reveals what they are keeping hidden of their beauty. And repent to God, all of you believers, that you may succeed.

From the above verse it can be deduced that for the purposes of women's dress code two types of beauty are described

        1. What is apparent (this can be revealed in public)
        2. What is hidden (this type must be covered in public, but could be revealed by a striking of feet or walk/stride which is revealing)

Such a striking of feet or walk could only reveal a limited number of parts of the body, e.g. the private parts, buttocks, thighs, breasts, hips, thus any part not revealed by such an action should not be considered part of hidden beauty and therefore part of apparent beauty. Of course, this means such things as face, hair, hands, feet etc would not clearly fall into the category of beauty that is meant to be hidden. Furthermore, the verse clearly brackets what beauty it is referring to by saying "...the child who has not yet understood the composition of women" implying it is relating to what is specific to a woman (i.e. what is different between man and woman) nothing else.
This understanding would also fit with The Quran's instruction on the body parts that are to be cleansed during daily ablution (hands, arms, face, head and feet), see 56, 443.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

          How sexual system turns-on?

          http//haqeeqat.pk/Sexuality.htm

The information is about the experience of the majority of men. We find in the literature specifically studying men's arousal patterns repeatedly emphasizing their sensitivity to visual cues. As soon as the lust-inspiring image registers in their brain, they become turned-on?not only physically but psychologically, too. This is the reason that believing men are instructed to reduce their gaze to escape arousal by fetish - any sexually arousing stimuli and to guard their genitals.

You the Messenger pronounce for the Believing Men that they should reduce their focused observation-gaze

          And they should guard their genitalia;

It is a purer and elevated course of conduct for them.

Indeed Allah the Exalted is fully aware of what they people artfully devise.

As an extreme caution, believing women are also instructed to reduce their gaze

And you the Messenger pronounce for the Believing Women that they should reduce their focused attention upon men

And that they should preserve their genitalia.

Reduced gaze will help an individual avoid Partialism sexual interest with an exclusive focus on a specific part of the body.

The most attractive body parts that are considered fetish are those which are ordered to be kept under extra veil when women are in the company of males or other women. The injunctions for women in this regard are not in the sense of restricting their preferences for dress code but in fact to facilitate men since sexual system can become self operative even without the desire of an individual. Thereby women are advised

And that they should not cause their bosom noticeable (by artificial methods) except that of it which has naturally become noticeable.

Since ornamental beauty is not mentioned in 2431 and body references/parts are, it almost certainly refers to bodily beauty.

Brother the command is not to reduce all looks because the word "MIN" means some of the total. Keeping in view the context about guarding private parts, the ayat is commanding to reduce those looks which have lust in them. Looking at woman in general is not prohibited but looking with lust is the focus.

                  Salaam
