What is the Thesis Statement of Qur'an
-
A worth reading book is that which has a unity and organization of parts. That lacking it would be a mess, non-scholarly work relatively unreadable and annoying to the reader. The reader must be able to tell what the whole book is about, simply and briefly in a single sentence or at most few sentences. What is the book about as a whole is the question that leads the reader to discover the leading theme - thesis statement of the book. A thesis statement makes an assertion, it is not just a statement or observation. It is a specific, definite and limited assertion that needs to be explained and supported by further discussion, concrete evidence and plausible arguments. It is main idea not title of the book. Thesis statement takes a stance - a position rather than announcing the topic or subject.
Works of literature usually do not contain a specific sentence that sums up the core concept of the writing. In what is called implicit thesis statement the primary point of reading is conveyed indirectly at various locations throughout the work.Intelligibility of the book is the source for the accomplishment of communication. The objective of communication is achieved when the reader comprehends the underlying, over all meaning of the message conveyed through a dynamic process of text building.
What is stated above about a book?in academic parlance?it is portrayed by terms cohesion and coherence in a discourse. A discourse is unified when all of its contents relate directly to its thesis statement?unity of book; and the discourse is well developed when it has given sufficient information to the reader to make him feel the thesis has sufficiently been discussed. The discourse is coherent when all of its contents are written clearly, logically and in a manner that is easy to follow. So what is the Thesis Statement of Qur'an?

ok, what is the 'Thesis Statement' according to the author of the book?
Thesis statement is distinct from a statement of fact. Thesis statement is arguable and the author proves it by concrete evidence and cogent reasoning and argumentation; and challenges the opponents by pointing out weaknesses and fallacies of their understanding and belief contrary to the thesis statement. Thereby, it is easy for a critical reader to get to the Thesis statement which enables him to study the Discourse coherently as a Unity, notwithstanding the variety and plenty of topics and concepts it may have in its ambit.
It is the prime responsibility of a critical reader and professional translator/interpreter, after determining the type of book, to determine the Thesis Statement of the Discourse because without it he will have no grasp of it; whereby his work will be lacking coherence and mostly be vague and misleading.

hmm interesting topic brother mazhar.
God bless you -
hmm interesting topic brother mazhar.
God bless youYes brother; it is very important also; because---
It is unfortunate that the scholars - translators - exegetes; claimant of belief and non-believers alike, who openly or subtly alleged that Grand Qur?n lacks cohesion and coherence?unity and organization, seem to have naively overlooked and ignored the fact that unity of a book revolves around its main theme. They never realized the Theme of Grand Qur?n

Peace brother Mazhar,
I agree that understanding what a book is about is paramount.
What is the thesis of the revelation? Could you give examples
from the text?A guidance and mercy to the believers based on knowledge
May I add
"and a warning to non believers"
peace

I have explained what is Thesis statement. Some warnings do not constitute it.

The Qur'an is simply a book of guidance and not an academic writing. It's style is different from any professional work
Many scholars such as Fazlur Rahman, Maulvi Jahangir, Muhammad Abdel Haleem have made publications on the subject
Every book is written according to academic rules, otherwise it will not serve the purpose of communication. Book of Allah is no exception since it is communication. What we can say is it is par excellence work of literature ever produced.
Did the mentioned works mention the Thesis Statement of Qur'an?

Peace Mazhar.
Qoran is asking the reader to find faults in it. How do you do that?
By pondering/studying/investigating/proving/tearing to shreds... every story and statement to see if it stands as truth. The difficulty is where do you acquire the high calibre knowledge to do this?
So many have been found out with Qoran ,thinking they found mistakes nonsense in it only to realise their own ignorance on so many subjects.
The problems I have found so far in Qoran are the people who interpret it , including me. Everytime I have looked and studied translations that did not make sense to me ,or claimed Qoran has contradictions, I have found the person interpreting it at fault. Not Qoran.
The thesis statement of Qoran continues for me. find mistakes, faults and nonsense in it?
GOD bless you.

Peace. We do not read books for finding faults or mistakes or to declare a book nonsense. After reading a book without bias, one can give his evaluation about it.

Theme of Grand Qur?n, just two sentences?

The major chunk of the text of Grand Qur?n comprising of informative-declarative-scientific and narrative discourse are the evidence and arguments to prove the first part of the Thesis Statement.
Almost all available translations have not cared to take notice of its elliptical property of the sentence and have translated as if they were just four words put together. The pioneer English translators had said
George Sale there is no god besides the true God,
John Rodwell There is no God but God,
I cannot believe it was for reason of poor scholarship that they translated the negation particle as "no"; second noun as "god/God"; exception particle as "but" and Allah as "God"; and naively overlooked even erroneousness of their English rendition; and unfortunately majority just copied them making it popular rendition.

So what is the Thesis Statement of Qur'an?
That's a good question but unfair.
It's not a coherent book in the traditional sense. You could liken it to modern day twitter. The ayat are tweets. Sometimes multiple tweets on a single topic. The Quran is collection of tweets and shared biblical stories (retweets) , tweeted over a 20 year period.
So just like anybody's twitter timeline there is no intentional central thesis statement. Quran is it's author timeline during that period (610-632).
This is why none of the ayats have any context. Just like tweets today make perfect sense to the readers today. A 200 year old tweet would make no sense as the context has disappeared.
So for example if we take Trump's recent tweet
No matter what happens today in the Senate, Republican House Members should be very proud of themselves. They flew back to Washington from all parts of the World in order to vote for Border Security and the Wall. Not one Democrat voted yes, and we won big. I am very proud of you!
We all know what is meant by the tweet. The tweet doesn't need to explain why Republican's should be proud or what they were doing in Washington, who are the Democrats etc.
You'd only do that in book.
In 200 years this tweet would make no sense at all, especially if there are no news papers, recorded media, historians etc.
This is what prompted the creation of Tafseer and Hadiths and other books. It was an attempt to preserve the context that also provided the opportunity to rewrite/invent some history.
Here's a thought experiment. If there was an apocalypse and the only written thing that survived was Trump's twitter feed. What kind of world view would the generations reading that twitter feed have. Would they ever agree on what was meant by all of it. Would they ever know the truth.

It is typical response when a book is not read according to academic rules.
The book revolves around its Thesis statement.

All that is relevant to human beings is bound to render the scope and field of the discourse encompassing Man's nature and nurture, every topic, subject, substance, theory, and idea man is concerned with. Thereby, one can imagine that the semantic information embedded in it will be extraordinarily large and diversified. It was, therefore, of utmost importance that the variety of issues were interweaved rendering the Divine Discourse as unified whole. It was done
http//haqeeqat.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/028.%20Al%20Qasas/28.51.gif
Our Majesty have certainly rendered the Verbal Discourse (Qur?n) interwoven - a unified whole for them (mankind).

So you just accepy it comes from the Lord of the universe?
Well brother Mazhar, your thesis from now on is to check who authored it and why!!..

Peace. It is a separate subject. With reference to a book, two entities are relevant; the Author - the owner of Intellectual Property; and second is the Publisher.
We can discuss it in a separate thread, under the caption Who is the Author of Qur'aan; or Divine Origin of Qur'aan. -
Quran was revealed to spend our life in its light. Our Prophet did not write any book to explain The Quran because The Quran explains itself. God has taken the responsibility to explain it t o sincere seeking hearts.
Our Prophet applied The Quran in his daily life and proved that it is the guidance to go through this life. That is the purpose of this book. People can beat their drums for everything other than accepting and applying it in their lives to give zaka to their surroundings and as a result to their selves.
In my humble opinion let the book play its role in our lives the way it is supposed to play.

Peace Mazhar.
The publisher has nothing to with the content. The publisher puts the content on paper. And there begins and ends the role of the publisher.
You might as well give a role to the subsequent publishers of different generations or even to readers!!!!Brother , I do not know what your thread subject is anymore. So far everyone that replied to you have not got it according to you?
Anyway over to you.
GOD bless you.
Peace.
