    Slm to All,

does our soul taken away from the body when we are sleeping ??

Allah takes the souls (at the) time (of) their death, and the one who (does) not die in their sleep. Then He keeps the one whom, He has decreed for them the death, and sends the others for a term specified. Indeed, in that surely (are) signs for a people who ponder. Quran 3942
    https//www.islamawakened.com/quran/39/42/default.htm
side note i thought its was Archangel Gabriel who toke the souls when we died , but apparently its Allah who takes the souls ( and punishing in the hell and rewarding in heaven)

And He (is) the One Who takes your (soul) by the night and He knows what you committed by the day. Then He raises you up therein, so that is fulfilled (the) term specified. Then to Him will be your return then He will inform you about what you used to do. Quran 660

      Salaam Kaltun

      3942

Allah takes back the nafs at the time of her death.........

It is showing the ownership and not the mechanism how it is done. Quran does not say Archangel Gabriel takes the nafs at the time of death. Rather it says the malaika do this

      497 .......

Surely those whom al-malaika take back......

      661 ..........

....when the death comes to one of you our messengers take it back......

      737...... .....

......when our messengers come to them, take them back......

And there are more verses in Quran saying the same.

      God bless you

One first and asic question which demnds answer before this question is what is nafs in the Qur'an.

I think there is a certain confusion as to what nafs is, specially when it is systematically translated as soul.

        Salaam

          Yes..
that's a real good question tbh...
coz Jesus uses the word nafs to GOD..5116
actually what is nafs? Is God's nafs feminine as well?

I did not translate nafs in my post because it is not spirit or soul as translated by translators.

Our nafs is taken by Allah during our sleep but we are still alive and our organs are working. So nafs has to be different from life.

At present my understanding is that nafs is our "self" or "personality" inside our body.

              TRUE
i used the word CHARACTER for it.

              nafs = character/intellect/conscience
rooh = life force/energy (software), -ve, invisible
              body = garment/id/uniform/makeup ( hardware), +ve, visible

in sleeping rooh and body still there only character can access to dimenshens in his sense of vision.

perhaps thats the reason of dreams too.
day dreaming is considered as ideas.

why we eat ? ( for body)
why we sleep ? ( for nafs may b) thats why in 24 hrs cycle a body calls for sleep same like body called us for eat.

                Peace all....

I presume this is one of the greatest topics to be put under microscope......specially to find out what is nafs...

3185 Every soul(nafs) will taste death, (sahih translation)......

very interesting.... I have seen rashad translate it as the Real person...

when someone dies.... His BODY(Jism) + LIFE or rather existence of any living things dies... here God used the word Nafs dies... is the real person also dies... we can see body decay and that body has no more power to motion... those two segments are dead... but what about nafs... God confirms Nafs dies...
but actually nafs dies? i know everyone would have seen various verses which shows bit otherwise...
very interesting tbh... what could be the ideal thing to be called for nafs... i don't blame anyone who used the word soul to it... that's in a way something other than body and life... fine.. but something beyond must be in it....
i will curiously read everyone's thread... i think i can definitely learn something beyond...
i read some article as well... but didn't help much...let's see

Note corpus given these four - self, soul, person, mind... do they suit to all occasions.. Or nafs may be all three as well .. i mean body + existence + person... got to research in due course..

I have a different approach to that question. You have different Elements in chemistry, they differ because they have different number of protons and electrons. But every single element has always only one single Neutron. So when ALLAH created the Human, there was already a basis of an Atom but what was missing were the Protons and Electrons. Thats why he gave him the Ruh - Spirit. Spirits are wheter Jinn or Malaika. Jinn=Intellect Malaika=Intuition. Thats why the Jinn are residing here on Earth as well as Iblis. And thats why Iblis became Satan. Iblis thought logically about the Creation, the Archangels thought intuitionally. We as individuals differ from each other because there are ones who are more intellectual (have a high IQ/or more Protons) others who are more intuitional or artistic (have a high EQ/Electrons). Those with a high IQ are often arrogant and selfish just like the Jinnkind. Those with a high EQ are very emotional but helpful just like the Malaika. Thats why we need the Balance. When we sleep or die, we encounter completely different rules, there is no logic in dreams. Although when our Heart becomes humble through the Grace of ALLAH and who gives us the Balance, we see this world in a complete different way.

Actually when i think more about it, the Nafs could also correspond to the Ego. The Ego dies in the Dreamstate. Maybe thats what is meant. The Ego is only for the material world. Thats why it tastes death.

                      Peace brother abaddon...

Quite interesting thoughts.... But not convincing type...
Can you explain the 5116 in which nafs is applied to God... Okay.. That's Isa who says it...
Then what about 328 God himself says...
What is the nafs of God...
He was not created, and no beginning... So elements of chemistry can be applied like you say... Protons and electrons....
                      God guide us...

Death doesnt apply to God even if he has a Nafs. Our Ancestors were the ones who ate from the Tree of Good and Evil... not God ;D Through this sin we are stuck in a world of dualism. In the fresh state we were balanced. Now we need to find the balance or at least be righteous. Read Sura al Waqi'a. Very important Sura.

                          GOD also never sleeps

Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

                          2255 Ayat al-Kursi )

When GOD says that every Nafs shall taste death it only matters for this material realm. The Qur'an and all the previous Scriptures were sent down to this material realm. He doesnt talk about the laws of other realms. And it shouldnt be important for us for now. We will see where the Journey will take us after the Judgement Day (where also the Sun and the Moon will fuse - End of dualism - singularity) ;D GOD willing.

                            Wa alleikum as-salam, brother!

Yes... We all know that we can't compare God with human... But why He used nafs.....

Let's talk about God's nafs later... Or anyone may come up with some explanation....
But what is 272 .... In nafs was killed... So one human can kill another nafs
What is you conviction on it

                                Peace!

Dont you think that it depends on the context what nafs means? Theres also a Verse in the sura alKahf (186) then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, , if they do not believe in this message, out of sorrow. (sahih international).

Then wouldst thou, perchance, destroy thy
soul ? following hard upon them ? from grief
if they believe not in this narrative? (sam gerrans)

Perhaps you will torment yourself in grief over them, because
they will not believe in this narrative at all. (Monotheis Group)

Sam Gerrans uses Nafs throughout his translation as Soul, but this individual did also some other questionable things in his translation. Soul can be destroyed but only through immoral behaviour. Like zina and stuff like this... Nafs = Self/Ego. I think Qalb/Heart corresponds more with the Soul. Also through Buddhist philosophy of the 7 Chakras. The Heart chakra is in the center and needs to be activated to activate the higher chakra gates.

According to Sufi-Philosophy of the whirling Derwishes or the Qadiriyya Order. Nafs is the Self which is "killed" during the trance meditation like whirling/dhikr, because through meditation you are close to GOD in the heavens

Why not? You can kill yourself (YOURself - do you understand? ;D the Self is not the real you - it is not your core personality) cant you? (but of course you shouldnt...) And what about coma? Technically speaking you are dead. There are also some cases where the buried suddenly came alive again (thats why corpses shouldnt be buried instantly). Thats why GOD says also in Qur'an that it appeard them so that 'Isa bin Maryam (Iesu-Maria) died. There is the death of our flesh but our Spirit is immortal. Our Ancestors ate from the Tree then they became Self aware. They were not Self aware before that, they were pure spiritual beings. And dont forget that there is also the Tree of Life ( &#1609 which gives immortality to the Self, this is coming soon after the day of resurrection. Th negative Part of that Tree is called az-Zaqqum (this one is for the companions of the fire).

"Ibn Arabi stated, the tree (az-Zaqqum) stands for the arrogant self."

                                    Who is Ibn Arabi??

                                      Salam!

What does the below Ayah mean?
                                      _
028088 And call not, besides Allah, on another god. There is no god but He. Everything (that exists) will perish except His own Face. To Him belongs the Command, and to Him will ye (all) be brought back.

                                      Peace!

                                        Wa alleikum as-salam!

it just simply means that ALLAH is the Source of everything and a Source, just like the Truth cant die. He created the good as well as evil. We go back to Him because we are a part of Him. (He gave us our Soul and Spirit). Face is understandble more like his Presence. Thats why it also stated in Genesis that GOD created the Human after his image. Thats why there is also the concept of Jannah and Jahannamm. The Pure part just want to separate itself from the impure part. Just like ALLAH and the Angels separated themselves from Iblis. You become a Shaytan when you show narcissistic behaviour narcissism is based on the Self/Ego. Thats why its important to be spiritual and to balance your Self with your godgiven purity.

Just look at the Luciferian doctrine. This is the opposite, they worship the Self/Ego. And the Luciferian Lodge of the Freemasons want that doctrine to dominate the abrahamic Monotheism. They took Iblis as their God. This is prophecised in the Qur'an

                                          1. Allah cursed him. And he said "I will take an appointed portion of your slaves;

                                          2. Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah." And whoever takes Shaitan (Satan) as a Wali (protector or helper) instead of Allah, has surely suffered a manifest loss.

                                          3. He makes promises to them, and arouses in them false desires; and Shaitan's (Satan) promises are nothing but deceptions.

                                          4. The dwelling of such (people) is Hell, and they will find no way of escape from it.

                                          Sura An-Nisa (4)

Albert Pike, a mastermason of the Luciferian Lodge has all the characteristics of a Shaytan. He was also the founder of the kuklux clan. Racism is nr1. satanic attribute. He also wrote a book called Morals and Dogma. He is like a prophet for the Luciferian Lodge....
