Is Mcdonalds really haram as a lot of Sunnis say
-
Peace
I eat it occasionally. I usually order the fish burger and fries with ketchup...
I understand that Mcdonalds fries their meat in the same oil and I understand some of that meat is from pig's meat but it's not as if I'm literally eating pig's meat, I eat the fish...is this really so bad? Is this really so wrong/ haram? Or an exaggeration?

peace,
I think this verse is applicable to any case where we’re doubtful to do something.
“O you who believe, you shall greatly avoid suspicion/doubt -some suspicion/doubt is sinful.”
While God blessed us with plenty of delicious food which we can eat without any confusion, why to go for suspicious food!
We are able to taste and enjoy food because God arranged some special structures (taste buds) on our tongue. Otherwise all food will be almost the same to our tongue. So it is good to remember this and thank God by being Loyal to Him (by not making chances of His dislike). -
Could the 'hidden/secret sin' mentioned in 6120 applicable here?
6118 So eat from that on which the name of God has been remembered, if you indeed believe in His evidences/revelations.
6119 And how (why) for you that you not eat from what God’s name was remembered on it, and He had fully detailed for you what He forbade on you, except what you were/are forced to it? And that many misguide by their desires without knowledge; that your Lord, He is fully aware of the transgressors.
6120 And leave, apparent/visible (of) the sin, and its hidden/secret; that those who earn sin will be punished for what they have taken.
6121 And do not eat from what God's name was not remembered on it, and that it truly is debauchery/ wickedness, and that the devils inspire/transmit to their patrons/supporters to argue/dispute with you, and if you obeyed them, that you are (then) sharers/takers of partners (with God).

As a strict vegetarian and animal rights supporter I can't share my experience much but what I have read is that only pig's meat is forbidden alongside some other points. Oil contamination is not considered flesh (at least that's what it seems like).
With regard to the nityy-gritty it's a good idea to check how Macdo operate to conclude whether they're breaking any rules mentioned in the koran or not. Though Sunnis speak from sources other than the koran so if you want God's words, go to the actual words. You'll hopefully find the verses eventually.God Bless,
