    Salam to All,

55 Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, and the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the independent females from those who are believers, and the independent females from those who have been given the Book before you, if you have given them their dowries, to be independent, not for illicit sex or taking lovers. And whoever rejects belief, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers.

The above verse allows Muslims to marry Jews and Christians as per my understanding.

What about Muslim women, can they marry men of the Jews and Christians (those who are not associating God)?

Would like people to shed some light and understanding on this verse.

    God bless you all

If you read the aya carefully you see that it says they can marry women believers and women of the peole of the book. So it cannot be a licence to men to marry people women are not allowed to marry, since in that case women could not marry the believers either, which obviously is nonsense. But so it is with ayas cherrypicked to adscribe to them a bias against women, some times they are so handled as to be preposterous, but that does not seem to matter.

      Salaam

This is what I understand from 55

This Day, all good things of your choice are made lawful for you

and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. Here "you" means all of you male or female.

and so are the virtuous, chaste women of the believers Here believing women are permissible and it also means that believing men are permissible for believing women that is why believing men are permissible for believing women

and the virtuous, chaste women of those who were given the Scripture before you Here guarded women of people of book are permissible for marriage to believing men and like above it also means that men from people of book are permissible for believing women. .

Scholars give all kind of reasons for believing women to not to get married with men from the people of book but 55 does not put any restriction on believing women in this regard.

Hope it makes understandable what huruf posted.

            EXCEPTIONS,

1 People of book also eat PORK/PIG
2 Believing man or women from whatever book is still a believer (who will gona decide who is believer) ?

A criminals present in each and every society ( they are not believers)
B peacemakers present in each and every society ( they are believers in system of peacekeeping)

            its recommended male/female of A make a relation with male/female of A
same goes for people of B.

confusion starts when man-made ideas and self appointed scholars give community rules and regulation to follow out of which RACISM part acts/supercede anything ...

            EXAMPLE
            team A vs team B

both are players and both are believers in the system of SPORTS/GAMES.
but the racism part make one enemy to another and most of the times it ended with trouble/fight due to the factor of hate towards racism...

very easy to understand but difficult to adopt.

559 Say, "O People of the Scripture! Do you not blame us just because we believe in God, and what is revealed to us and what was revealed before? And because most of you are drifting away from the Right Direction??

              Salam brother Novice,

Thanks you and everyone for their reply.

              You said

and the virtuous, chaste women of those who were given the Scripture before you Here guarded women of people of book are permissible for marriage to believing men and like above it also means that men from people of book are permissible for believing women.

What's in this verse that made you say that "that men from people of book are permissible for believing women."

Is it the Arabic Grammer or what? Please I kindly ask you to point it out.

              God bless you

The point is not that, the point is what makes you in that aya to conclude that people of the book are not legitimate for marriage by muslim women. Answer that first and then the rest falls into place.

                Salaam
