From what I've read of the Quran, it seems to equate atheists/unbelievers with people who have no morals and/or are wicked.

I have a close friend who's an atheist and he's one of the nicest people I've ever come across. He's also a vegetarian and has empathy/love for animals.

Just now, I read these verses in the Koran
8310 Woe on that Day to the deniers.
8311 Those who denied the Day of Judgment.
8312 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, sinner.

Is the above verse saying that only the wicked deny Judgement Day? If so, why would an All-Knowing God say such a thing?

    Am I missing something?

    What are your thoughts?

      Peace Boukish.

There are some people who have the wrong understanding of Atheists. Just like those who believe, there are many categories of people believers, Atheist and...
I also know some Atheist ,who when I ask them about the "signs" that we see, hear and witness in our universe, they acknowledge that there "might" be intelligence design /creations round us., but they do not believe in the "God" of the religions.
Some are very good ,like your friend. So what about them?
      What are they denying?
I would say they are denying the religions, which if we are honest, GOD has not authorized for us.
So who can say for certain that the good Atheists are denying the "straight path" message of Qoran? Or is the message of Qoran not calling on all humans to follow the straight path?
As for believing in GOD the creator, most of the Atheists are reflecting, and only GOD knows where in the balance of their reflections are? Are some seeking more evidence/signs...i.e still deliberating? So may be they will find their evidence in the future?

      Job 127-25 ESV
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will show you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. Does not the ear test words(and the eyes test images of nature, and the brain reflects on the originality...) as the palate tastes food? ...

My simple answer to your question is that GOD is the judge of his ibad.
For me being good goes hand in hand with being accountable for our actions and deeds.
      GOD bless you.
      Peace.

You've missed a 'true revelation' from that people which you labeled as "nice atheist".
Instead why not try asking him what makes him so nice?
What is his outlook on life?

        Or perhaps this question
"How do you see me? Do you see me as an unbeliever?"

Learn from him and incorporate what is good on him to your own life, thus you will be as nice as him.

            Peace…
How can there be good atheist or good Christian or good Jews or good Hindu or good Budhist or good traditional Muslim or etc? No one is good if they reject God… That’s what and how God sees…. Only those who reject the verses of God will enter Hell fire….
Don’t judge with weak mind…. How can one reject his Creator and still be called GOOD….? That’s far from truth… you may call, but God will never…
You skipped the essential part .. I mean the next verse..
8313 “When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
Who actually say so? Sinning Transgressor 8312…Transgressing what God revealed… Rejecting the verses of God incontrovertibly rejecting God Himself…

So, don’t confuse… such people are in every community… Atheist is basically defined as someone who doesn’t believe in God… So, he may be someone who totally deny the presence of God or even partially … for example .. if I accept one verse of quran and deny another verse then definitely I am an atheist.. coz I deny the verses of God thus denying the God…

Theres a lot to learn, I think, rejecting theres no God is rejecting the Goodness of the system, the justice inbuilt, the hope for the downtrodden, the oppressed. to believe theres none is, one has all the privileges but not thankfull.

By the way by denying verses of Quran cannot become an atheist, its the understanding that matters, God guides whoever He wills.

Yes it can… I have no idea what is atheist in your definition…. If in case what you take atheist to be as “someone who deny the existence either One God or gods or simply saying everything evolved and not created coz there is no such thing called God/gods do exist” then Yes one who deny the verses of the book can be atheist…
If one believes in God, he cannot deny whatever God presents… there is no point accepting one and leaving another…such will end up nowhere… (Inability to perform is different from accepting and denying)
Carefully note when God always says in quran .. Hell fire is the place to those who deny My verses… When verses are denied, no longer that person would follow what is written in the verse or else no longer accept what is written in the verse.. So he rejects the verses… Verses are from God and once they are rejected, he can no longer call believe in God… that’s his foolishness..
Generally those who call atheist from then to this date is somehow Rejecters / Disbelievers (Kafir).. coz they were / are unable to accept into their life the truth fully since they are in full of doubts…. They may not equal with God anything, but they deny the God and His system..

End result of totally rejecting the existence of God and those who reject the verses of God are same… or rather atheist… Coz both REJECTED God in different ways… and thereby God rejected them…

I do not think being close or far from God is a matter of what belief system you adhere to. But having the right belief can help.

To develop more on this idea

                  • Imagine a hedonistic person who, knowingly or unknowingly, believe that the purpose of life is to be happy and be filled of enjoyment and what not...whatever that might be, there isn't necessarily any questioning of right or wrong as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, then it's okay. What kind of life will this person live ?

                  • Imagine someone else who believes that there is a judgement day and that he or she will be held responsible of their actions. What kind of life will this person live ?

                  • Imagine someone else who believes that life is a cycle of life and death based on one's actions, good or bad. What kind of life will this person live ?
