    Peace be upon you Khalil,

Just wanted to let you know I understand exactly what you are saying and am familiar with similar events. I am just slow to speak on this subject because it requires us to understand so many other things in this reading(quran) FIRST, so I don't want to scare anyone yet D

But I am HEAVILY researching this topic, and will have much to say as we continue this journey. D

Why doesn't the Quran say anything about fortunetelling but it does about magic/spells. Isn't fortunetelling magic?

      The Bible
      Deuteronomium 18
10 There shall not be found among you that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, that useth divination, an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things an abomination unto the LORD and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so .

Most fortunetellers have to use an object to see your future. Some use candles, coffee, cards, personal objects like a bracelet etc. I'm wondering if that's what God calls magic.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Peace be upon you Ansar and all,

is it haram? can someone clarify?

                thanks

The God is enough, but does that mean we don't use paper and pens (the quran)? Let me clarify that I AM NOT discussing fortune telling as the thread is entitled, I am discussing ORACLES which is not fortune telling which is fake. Some Oracles are the "I ching" of China, the "Metu Neter" of the Ausar Auset Society, The "Ifa", The "Afa", and The "Dilogun". In any case, Ansar, what do you make of the verse in this reading(quran) that states that Zakariah CAST LOTS to see who would care for Marium? WHy is that not reprimanded? Also, for those who referenced the Bible, here are a few verses you may have missed in Bible Study...

"Before the advent of the monarchial period in Israel, a very rudimentary oracle, the Urim and Thummim was consulted. This oracle that could only answer yes or no was the means, according to 1 Samuel 286, to consult Will of Yahweh. In Ezra 263 a cultic problemis postponed until a priest of the oracle can be consulted. II Macc. 15, informs us that Hamman secured the deliverance of the Jews exiled in Persia, by casting the lots to chose the day for attacking the Persians. The latter were slaughtered. This event is today commemerated, although with a veil casted over it, in the Jewish feast of Purim (purim means "lots"). Another account of the Jewish use of lots is given in Acts I26, where we are shown that Matthias was chosen through the casting of Lots over Joseph Barsabbas, to take Juddas' (who betrayed Jesus) place. Incidentally, it is important to remember, or note that Jesus, and his disciples never called themselves Christians. The appellation or concept did not even exsist in Jesus' time. They were Jews, but that is another story. But back to the Oracles. There are many more such references in the Old Testament for those who care to search for them.

                  Peace be upon you all,
Yesterday while reading the Quran I came upon an interesting verse that may be of relevance to this topic.

                  037.141
YUSUFALI He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned
                  PICKTHAL And then drew lots and was of those rejected;
SHAKIR So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off.
KHALIFA He rebelled and thus, he joined the losers.

                  And the FM translation
37141 When he escaped to the charged ship.

Yusuf Ali and Pickthal both translate this verse as casting lots, how come the others haven't done the same?
                  Peace

                      Peace be upon you,
Idolfree, I don't know arabic so I can't comment on it. But I'll post the verses along with the transliteration.

344 This is part of the tidings of the things unseen, which We reveal unto thee (O Messenger.) by inspiration Thou wast not with them when they cast lots with arrows, as to which of them should be charged with the care of Mary Nor wast thou with them when they disputed (the point).

Thalika min anbai alghaybi nooheehi ilayka wama kunta ladayhim ith yulqoona aqlamahum ayyuhum yakfulu maryama wama kunta ladayhim ith yakhtasimoon

                      Verse dealing with Jonah

37141 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was
                      condemned

                      Fasahama fakana mina almudhadeen

                      Hope it helps,
                      Peace
