Yes, fasting as per traditional ways in the month of Ramadan, my take is Ramadan fasting is the month to cleanse yourself, health wise, physically and mentally, Take local simple foods, easy to digest, body hygiene is easy to maintain with fasting, be thankfull to whatever we got the previous months, so do more zakat possible and celebrate the end of fasting the Eid with happiness as ever.

I forgot to say the Traditional Islamic calendar, and the month of ramadan, is likely incorrect, so it's not like they know when ramadan is either.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

You should do your own research and think on the different opinions. Sincerity is between you and Allah.

If you read the verses in context, from 2183-184, 185 is disconnected from the previous verses and shows fasting in Ramadhan isn't an obligation as there's no mention of a penalty of feeding a person.

In 2184 it said to feed poor if missed but it also ends with fasting is BETTER not obligatory.

Read other parts of the Quran where fasting is mentioned. There are two types, Siyam and Saum. One is of silence and one of abstaining from food, drinks and sex. They're not the same.

Where else is fasting mentioned? Hajj, wrongly killed game, compensation for killing a believer, breaking oaths, and those who liken their wives to their mothers.

          Peace

I'm so confused about how we should do Ramadan.
Can everyone explain how to do this when following the Qur'an alone?

          Thanks

Glorify God for 3 days in isolation. If you start to see fan with thread like blades rotating and becoming bright in your mind's eye, congrats you are on the right track. Otherwise, you might suddenly end up with flow of information that leaves you mentally lit up. If those dont seem interesting you can use those 3 days to get your wish fulfilled. Its a must that you take a break in between to eat and drink.

          Peace

            Yes, and?

(although I think that means that is when the revelation began being sent down to the messenger. Some people take it to mean all of Al Quran.)

            Peace

It seems like it's a specific month rather than fasting a few days every month?

I also believe that's when the Qur'an started to be revealed.

So if it's not an obligation, then a recommendation? To me, it seems like a command.

Yes, but my point was since I do not know when that month is (nor do Traditionalists it seems) I can fast throughout the year, few days here and there etc.

It's a choice while addressing a specific audience.

If you think it's obligatory for you then you should fast.

I just took the verses about fasting and experimented with them by subtracting all that we were told in sects. Whatever God tells us to do in Quran always gives visible results. Quranic fasting seems to open the door to another reality of ours. Ironically, you will not go very far if you abstain from eating and drinking.

New age might have similar stuffs but their explanations are not without distortion and disagreements. Their blocks come from subtraction of God. In Quran these issues are corrected. I guess thats why we have verses like this

Say, "If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants." 1113

                        Peace
