    Peace Hawk.
As far as GOD is concerned there are no miracles.

So as far as your good logic is concerned ) God did not reveal any miracles in his revelation. Therefore, I understand from your reply that the translators have incorrectly misinterpreted the use of the word "miracles".

We can't decide, but these "things" never happen. What is happening is all natural, bounded by natural laws. That's why if Allah wants to punish some town or area He was sending floods, strong winds, earthquakes, etc. No magic and no "angels from the Sky".

Yes, there's a lot of things we don't understand, on personal or wider level, but yet nothing supernatural except in human imagination. People tend to ask/search for proves and that's great, but there's no "miracle" that can prove Allah, WE HAVE TO BELIEVE, we can't know.

Peace good brother in your opinion the splitting of the sea by Musa was not supernatural? The man who slept for a hundred years was that not supernatural.

Are you saying those two things do not qualify as miracles. I am not asking about things like winds, floods, earthquakes, etc.

    God bless you

    peace

I do not want to hijack the discussion between hawk and aladin, just wanted to ask a question (without being on either side per se.

Suppose we go back in time, way back and tell the men of those times, that in later centuries to come, man has set foot on moon, humans can communicate via people far off land by actually seeing and hearing em. men can vanish a whole city with millions of people with one nuclear missile, and the list goes on.
What do you think those men at that time will say to us? for them these events of now would be super natural (if they have a definition of super natural) and they would not believe because for them these so called events can only be accomplished by God and not by humans..

Fast forward several centuries from today, and support we witness planet earth as empty of any human life because humans have shifted to another planet or they found another earth and moved there... (of course using the technology available then),,,, would you and I not see that as super natural?

The point is anything which we cant comprehend with our current state of mind and cant explain may be termed as super natural but it has happened due to the natural forces or ingredients which are already available in this universe. Some times God says be it and it happens and other times humans have learned how to do it.

Some Quranists deny these super natural events and tried to explain the logic (especially parting of sea- where some quoted that Moses was told by God via wahee the exact time of low tide). For example see this link

      https//www.wsj.com/articles/how-did-moses-part-the-red-sea-1417790250#~text=In%20certain%20places%20in%20the,are%20said%20to%20have%20crossed.

      Quote
"in certain places in the world, the tide can leave the sea bottom dry for hours and then come roaring back. In fact, in 1798, Napoleon Bonaparte and a small group of soldiers on horseback were crossing the Gulf of Suez, the northern end of the Red Sea, roughly where Moses and the Israelites are said to have crossed."

The point I am trying to make or understand is that those events mentioned in Quran may have happened literally or metaphirically, but God has created this world with a precision and yes he can do all things but he has set in motion until a day when these laws will be broken - not before.

In the end the main purpose is to believe in the message and you wont be asked about these events in order for you to be judged by Almighty.

      Best Regards

        Adding to my previous reply.

And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers.

Now this is a super natural age for me if I consider 950 years (as per todays calendar cycle). Please correct me, do we find similar age verses in Quran or Noah is the only exception? If so then this verse could mean the era of Prophet Noah (not that he lived 950 years) or perhaps the way people count years in his time was shorter than our calendar days.

        Thanks

Azra is not presenting her opinion here, so you are making a futile effort. He is a sectarian who follows opinion leaders.

In their sect, they take words out of the context of the sentence and the book by saying "the root of so-and-so word means so-and-so, actually it means this".

They give symbolic meanings to verses when it suits them. And when it suits them, they divide the word into syllables and accept the literal root meaning.

Another characteristic of this sect is that they do not believe in jinn and angels. For example, they call jinns the human race, while they call angels the representation of natural phenomena.

They do not believe in miracles. Like the pagans, they admire nature and its laws. These are their sacred.

They think that Allah does not know the future.

          They believe in evolution.

          They are mostly leftists.

People in this sect also have some other beliefs that vary from person to person. But in general, this is their religion.

Some of them also believe that there is no salaat or pilgrimage. There are even some who declare them haram. But as I said, there can be different views on these issues among people belonging to this doctrine. It's just like individuals in Sunni or Shia sects may have some personal different acceptances.

But in general, they are imitators who follow the opinion leaders. They are loyal to their sect.

So they are not really Koranists.

          Peace

Yes and no will be my reply to your statement ,quote
"GOD did not reveal any miracles in his revelation. Therefore, I understand from your reply that the translators have incorrectly misinterpreted the use of the word "miracles"."

GOD does not want to put up a show for us, He did not use the word miracle ,the word used is "Aayat or Bayyinat or Tibyanan because He wants to teach us and make us aware of His ways and system to lead us on His path.

For us most of what GOD does are things we cannot comprehend and call miracles Creation for example .
For me I find Qoran style and language a miracle , let me explain by few verses

"We have cited in this Qoran every kind of example, but the human being is the most argumentative creature.
Nothing/or what prevented the people from believing, when the guidance came to them, and from seeking the forgiveness of their Lord, except that they demanded to see the same way of GOD- miracles- as the previous generations, or when they come face to face with GOD s punishment?
We only send the messengers as simply deliverers of good news, as well as warners. Those who disbelieve argue with falsehood to defeat the truth, and they take My Aayat and warnings in vain.
Who are more evil than those who are reminded of their Lord's Aayat, then disregard them, without realizing what they are doing. Consequently, we place shields on their hearts to prevent them from understanding it (the Quran), and deafness in their ears. Thus, no matter what you do to guide them, they can never ever be guided.

The message is summarised beautifully by the Arabic language in these few verses. One can say "Aayat here can mean proofs, verses, miracles and signs...etc
            GOD bless you.
            Peace.

The splitting of the sea would be supernatural, for sure, but there was no splitting of the sea. Even, it's not about sea at all, but the River. Nile is called el-baHr. And no, even Nile didn't split, but Musa used his stuff to measure river level and safely cross it.

For a story about "100 years sleep", I think you're talking about event with "dead bones", right? The whole story is a dream, as some scholars say, I think Abu Layth is one of them. There're a several stories which are dreams, as a story about Musa in surah Kehf. I also agree that if story about "100 years sleep" is reality than it would be supernatural in my current understanding and I'll admit that I was wrong and there're supernatural things for me. But I don't see it like that. Also there're stories in the Qur'an which I currently don't understand or understand partially and I can't judge, but from what I understood nothing supernatural is happening.

Fusion, I agree that many things look as miracles to us or would be miracles for those before us, but normal to us (as cell phones), but still they're not supernatural. Btw, Moon walk happened only by Michael Jackson

We can label something as miraculous, incredible, wonderful, wondrous, stupendous, impressive, prodigious, etc. but it won't make it supernatural, unless we're sure that we understood all the laws in it and we found that it have something super (over) its nature. Even if we're sure that we understood all there could be something we didn't understand.

There's no flaw in Allah's creation.

                So...have you witnessed any?

As I have already mentioned, yes, I have witnessed it many times.

Apart from these, I also had an encounter with a jinn. But jinns and angels are biological and material beings like us, and seeing them is not against the laws of physics. It's just that they have different physical properties than us (for example, being invisible)

                Peace

Miracles are events that happen outside the laws of physics. The Qur'an describes this very clearly and in detail.

                  https//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9611877.0

By the way, who said it doesn't happen today? You only think so because you have not personally witnessed it.

                  And I Said;

There is no symbolic expression in the Qur'an. More precisely, if it is going to describe something representatively, it says "it is like this, it is like that" and clearly states that it is making a comparison and gives an explanation (it states very clearly what it compares what to what). The Quran is already a clear book. There is nothing like this/symbol in the verses about these miracles.

When God does something in the same way, we call it a law. But when He does something differently in what is called a miracle, not only do we understand that this is something that man or jinn cannot do, but we also witness that Allah has the power to act as He wishes with His free will. As you know, there are pantheists who worship nature, the universe and the laws of physics. They believe that the universe and its laws are unchangeable and inviolable because they see them as God. God answers this misconception by creating outside the laws of physics. In fact, polytheistic teachings throughout history have often been part of pantheistic spiritualism. Islam is in struggle with this pagan doctrine. This spiritist doctrine is also communist and you will find that those who defend the immutability of the laws of nature are generally left-leaning.

Today, the spiritists are trying to infiltrate the movement to return to the Quran and present their pantheistic and leftist teachings as if they were from the Quran. Unfortunately, this is one of the reasons why verses that talk about miracles are being interpreted in terms of the laws of physics.

There is also the fact that the laws of physics do not yet know exactly what they allow and what they do not allow, even by scientists. Today they may say that the speed of light cannot be exceeded, tomorrow they may say that it can be exceeded, that the laws of physics allow it, and that we have just realized this. Jinns and angels are actually physical beings, and because the scientific world has not yet discovered them, they are perceived as if they are beyond the laws of physics. But no, they are material beings subject to laws, just like us. They have just not yet been discovered by science.

In the Star Trek movies and TV series, which claim to be based on scientific facts, teleportation is possible, and in the last episodes, food and blessings can be produced directly from the energy of the universe with supercomputerized machines. It is also known that there are black holes in the universe and a black hole the size of a dot can swallow huge planets or stars.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, a civilization advanced in science and technology can do anything that the laws of physics allow, so should we accept their religious beliefs and teachings because of what they have done? Of course not. Whatever the laws of physics allow, we, the servants, can do. There is no miracle in this. It is only for people who are not at that level that these things are seen as miracles and are misleading. The real miracle is to go beyond the laws of physics and no one can do that except Allah.

                  Peace

Peace and blessing be with you

Many miracles or signs that are happening everyday are taken for granted or we are not conscious about them. Breathing for example is a miracle. The rising and setting of the Sun is a miracle and so on.

One thing for any miracle to happen is to have faith in Allah swt.

If only we can connect to Allah swt, miracle can happen.

                    Wasalam

Also we can make miracles happen in our life with GOD s help if we totally submit and follow GODs guidance and instructions. A big decision to see miracles and do miracles for our own well being .
                      Miracles like these

                      • Turn our volatile and confused state of mind into a peaceful one.
                      • change our conduct and attitude direction from a bad state into a better state- Yes this can be a huge miracle -.
-Open our eyes and ears to navigate our way with our intellect and reason through the journey of life. GOD will shine the light for us if we keep asking Him and using His advice.

-Miracles happen every day .GOD does everything .To GOD everything is easy to do and there are no miracles as far as He is concerned. All good comes from him and everything GOD does has a good reason behind it.
The best miracle for us is that GOD can turn our bad deeds into good ones if we totally submit and follow Him and His commands/instructions.
                      GOD bless you all.
                      Peace.

Or as the one who passed by a township which had fallen into ruin. He said, "How will Allah bring this to life after its death?" So, Allah caused him to die for a hundred years; then He revived him. He said, "How long have you remained?" The man said, "I have remained a day or part of a day." He said, "Rather, you have remained one hundred years. Look at your food and your drink; it has not changed with time. And look at your donkey; and We will make you a sign for the people. And look at the bones - how We raise them and then We cover them with flesh." And when it became clear to him, he said, "I know that Allah is over all things competent."

To understand this we have to notice that two words were used in a story about Musa, which are translated as "the sea". These words are el-baHr الْبَحْر as in 2663 you asked about, and el-yemm الْيَمّ.

El-yemm is used 8 times and it's translated as "sea", in a story of Musa, and also as "river". Yemm is translated as "river" when Musa's mother casted him into the RIVER (ref. 2039 and 287). So, if yemm is sea then Musa's mother casted him into the sea and somehow he came to pharaoh's family, which were located in Amarna or some other town far away from (Red) sea. Also, word teyemmum (or tayammum) comes from the same root, which is important for this word.

Bahr in Egypt is River Nile, as well as Blue and White Niles from which Nile's made of, and other big rivers, because this word can be used for any huge water area. Bahr is also sea, of course. There're two seas in Egypt, at north and east, and el-baHr wouldn't be precise without additional info about it. But Nile suits well. Moreover, there's a famous temple of Queen Hatsepshut which is called "Da'ir-ul-Bahri" (Monastery of the Bahr) and it's in the desert, far away from both seas, but on Nile's shore. There're other toponyms with baHr in them, related to Nile.

As a proof that baHr can be sweet water (ie. river) we can find in the Qur'an description of "two baHr", where one has sweet and other salty water.

"Scholars" just took stories from altered previous scriptures and presented them as truth, even we know for sure that they're altered in many ways. Each story in the Qur'an which is also in some other book was retold to tell us truth about it.

Peace Aladin Azra, I see no mention of a dream, please explain.

I do not find the word miracle in Qoran Also.
I am translating "Aayat" in some verses as sign/miracle/supernatural...i.e not possible for humans to do., according to my understanding.
Like I said to you before, GOD will not use the word miracle to describe the things He does because to Him they are easy to do.

                                Very interesting deduction.
I also tried searching Quran with the arabic word معجزة and I could not find (unless some one corrects me).
Yes بِـَٔايَةٍ is there in many places which is translated into either Miracle or Signs.

We may use miracle and Sign interchangeably but more better translation of Miracle is the word معجزة which did not came out in my search.

So as I understand Miracle refers to something that is impossible to happen like dead people coming alive. or some one fell off 100 story and still get up and walk away.
Sign is something that is an event which happened and serve a message from God. Or in our daily life we something stop doing something because we receive a sign which makes us not to proceed in the original direction.
Now even this word sign or ءَايَةًۭ is translated in different contexts.

                                For example

                                Quran 341

                                Translation 1
He said, “My Lord, make for me a sign.” He Said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and exalt in the evening and the morning.”

                                Translation 2
Zechariah said ‘O my Lord! Appoint a sign for me.’ The angel said ‘The sign for you shall be that you shall not speak to men for three days except by gesture. Remember your Lord and extol His glory by night and by day.’

                                Translation 3
Zachariah said “O Allah let me know if there is any particular Directive in this regard.” Allah said, “The only Directive is that for three days you shall not converse with people except by means of signs and keep the Divine Laws before you unceasingly. Otherwise, go about your daily business in your routine manner.”

So even the word ayat is not actually agreed to have the near meaning of miracle as explained above.

                                Thanks

Here are verses with !Aayat! words that I would translate as miracle,or signs that are miracles for us humans

They say, "How come no Aayats- miracles- came down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The future belongs to God; so wait, and I am waiting along with you."

*1020 In retrospect, we see now that the Quran's miracle, indeed "One of the greatest miracles" (7430-35), was divinely predestined to be unveiled 14 centuries later.

                                  Or
They said, "If only Aayats- miracles*- could come down to him from his Lord!" Say, "All Aayats- miracles to humans- come only from God; I am no more than a manifest warner."
                                  2948-51
Is it not enough (of a miracle
to humans) that we sent down to you this book, being recited to them? This is indeed a mercy and a reminder for people who believe.
                                  ...
Humans always want supernatural things to see/ miracles from GOD as proof and.GOD has provided for many past generations as part of His test.
Yet we are blind to the miracles of our own creation and that of everything around us. Always there as a reminder for us about the greatness of GOD.
                                  GOD bless you.
                                  Peace.

In my understanding what is intended here is about super natural acts. We all know the narrations that Quran conveyed about the greatness of Almighty and many verses also talk about Aya as signs including the Book itself. However I feel the questioner (correct me pls) is talking about the so called super natural events mentioned in Quran and hence asking if the next such an even is the judgement day because apparently many verses in Quran about the happening of Judgement days seems Super natural (like joining of the moon and sun etc.- if we take this joining as Literal sense).

Previous nations had always asked their prophets about signs to prove their claim. What kind of sign people of the those nations asked? Like why not the angels walk beside the prophet or why not prophet does some super natural thing. and in my opinion no prophet claims to act on such demands in a way to perform some super natural stuff other than to spread the true message of Islam - oneness of God and be kind to other humans etc.

Now the events and stories mentioned in Quran which are still super natural to us may one day be explained and some are already explained owe to the fact that we humans excel in science and unlock the secrets of the power of this universe using the laws that God set in motion when this universe was created (gravity for example).

Lets suppose a time 3000 years ago, a man was able to invent a telescope that sees the galaxies far off and then he shows it to his nations as a sign and then claims he is a prophet fulfilling the demand of his nation showing a sign. Do we consider this as super natural? maybe at that time but perhaps the man was able to master how to create a curved glass (lens) to be able to reflect the light.(just saying for argument sake).

Yes God capable of all things however we should not take some of the verses as literally that for example splitting of a mon happened with the prophet aiming his finger at the moon or that moses just hit the ground with a stick and the whole sea is divided with a passage. Else we can then also assume that what Hundus said about their sadhus where they claimed those sadhus were able to fly high above, be able to reach from one mountain to another in the wink of an eye and such stories should also be true. Similar to story of Miraj where majority of the muslims believe prophet took a journey in physical capacity.

I am not in favor or against believing such evens, all I am saying is that we should accept Scientific advancements and try to understand that definition of miracle should be adjusted accordingly.

                                    cheers

On the contrary, everything described in the Qur'an is literally true. There is no symbolism in the Quran. If there is a simile, the verse states it and explains what it is symbolizing (e.g. the Qur'an being compared to light, etc...).

We must first accept the plain first meaning of the verses. Then we can move on to secondary and tertiary meanings and symbolic interpretations. But first we believe in the first obvious meaning. Otherwise there will be no book. Anyone can deny any verse and call it a symbol. They call verses they don't like as metaphors. We see them in these forums as well. Anyway, when you do that, you can get any teaching approved by the book.

By the way, Miraj may also be real. There are one or two verses that point to it. Besides, paradise and hell already exist. In the Hereafter Universe called the Lord's Floor...Travel between universes is not against the laws of physics. Neither does the splitting of the sea. Angels and jinn are also physical living beings subject to the laws of physics like us.

But apart from that, the real miracles and proofs are those that happen outside the laws of physics. Otherwise, everything that is in accordance with the laws of physics can be realized by humans and jinns who are advanced in technology and science. There is no divine proof in these. Those with advanced civilization impose their own teachings. No, God performs the real miracles and these miracles are against the laws of physics. For example, the creation of the universe out of nothing, the creation of Adam and his wife without using sex, and the creation of Jesus without use sex. The resurrection of the dead and the creation of birds from clay through Jesus , from God. The man and his animal, passing by the ruined city, are recreated long after their deaths.

                                      Peace

Peace good brother, I did not intend to mislead you, the discussion is about "miracles" not bodies of water, my apologies. As for the man who slept for one hundred years the scholar in the video is giving his opinion, all are welcome to share their own opinions!

                                        Peace Hawk.
As far as GOD is concerned there are no miracles. Everything is possible. GOD will not use the word -miracle - when He does something as everything is easily doable for Him.
You will find Qoran using the word Aayat for signs, or verses or miracles- as far as we are concerned- and according to the context.

                                        GOD bless you.

Peace good logic, I prefer to read what God reveals and not invented interpretations that may mislead us. What God says is sufficient.

                                        God bless you both

                                        peace

                                          Peace Hawk.
That is fair enough and the right thing to do.

But when we read what God has revealed, our understanding of it is our own interpretation. and it is also possible to mislead our own self.
So I agree with you in that sense that we are only accountable for our own take of GOD s message. We follow our understanding and keep seeking GOD s help and support to correct our errors and lead us towards certainty of the basics that save us from straying from GOD s path.

Like you say I was giving my opinion and also pointing out that each seek their own understanding and check all information using GOD Alone as helper ,explainer and guide.
                                          GOD bless you brother.
                                          Peace.
