    peace to all,

so Nuh lived 950 years .. how about his family , not a single word about the long life of his tribes or his wife(s) nor his children..
so he watched his loved ones die and lived long lonely life ...

btw al-injeel is not the bible, if you say it is , please proof this via the Quran

      Peace,

Peace good brothers and sisters, to understand that the story of Noah is a parable and not about his age, you must not just read 2914 but the context from 2914 to 2943 to get a clearer understanding of his and the stories of those who succeeded him. The knowledge that we can extract from the lessons being given by the examples and the similitudes are intended for our spiritual growth in our lives and as conveyance to others as we journey forward. handshake

      God bless

      peace

So much is speculated about strange way of pronouncing numbers in Quran especially numbers after 100 and when the number is not exactly simple round numbers..
Quran has mentioned 1-10 and pronounced them.. And 11-20 only three numbers 11, 12 and 19.. And all other numbers are round numbers ending in zero digit except 99..
We never know the reason to call 1000 save 50 or 300 plus 9.. One possible reason could be that people never pronounced those numbers in words.. For example "Three hundred and Nine" or "Nine Hundred and Fifty" ..So no point of pronouncing in correct way by Allah while people still not familiar with such pronunciation .. Did they pronounce "Ninety Nine Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine " in Arabic ... I don't know.. Allah knows best.. So there could be a possible reason why Allah simplify and make them know what exactly 309 is or 950 is..
Look! QURAN has used Sana / Aama / Hawl to mean YEAR and no specific reason save synonym... But we don't know there was a system to pronounce other than extreme round numbers and notable numbers...
Just cuz of some unknown history, how can one deduce Sana means unproductive and Aama means productive...
They remained in cave 300 unproductive plus 9 hypocrites.. Wow.. What manipulation is that..
He doesn't answer when asked then what is the meaning of 1811

" So We cast over their ears within the cave for a number of years (Sineen Adada) ....."

Very carelessly neglect.. They didn't at all stay in the cave according to scholar and it is not years but Productive + Hypocrites.. Wow.. Then what is 1811 ... Simply nonsensical... Nothing else to say..

So those who love science over Quran embrace such conjunction and claim Yeah.. No one can be alive in sleep for more than 300 years.. So Quran must have meant something else.. And when some scholar comes up with such translations they immediately fall prey to it cuz they were long doubting it.. So they feel they found an answer to it..

Anyway.. As I always say.. Seek guidance from Allah alone and don't doubt verses of Allah if you indeed believers...hypocrites and disbelievers only doubt the verses of Allah or manipulate..
        Thank you..

Note any volunteer..pls check original Torah whatever remains in Hebrew language, how 950 is written? Is it worded or numeric.. Quran has never user any numeric ..all verses in Quran are in letters...That could probably mean numeric were not written but only pronounced in their own style.. Further.. When we look at geometrical value chart of Arabic letters, they have given all 28 letters value 1-10 and 20-100 and 200-1000 ... So it seems numerics were not in use.. That's a point to reflect too..

You may have a point here, however regardless of whether we see the age of 950 as literal or symbolic, the core message and the guidance it imparts remain a significant part of our spiritual journey.

The original Hebrew text for Noah's age in Genesis 929 from the Tanakh is as follows

        "וַיִּהְיוּ כָל־יְמֵי נֹחַ תְּשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַחֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹת"

In this verse, the words "תְּשַׁע מֵאוֹת" (tesha me'ot) mean "nine hundred" and "וַחֲמִשִּׁים" (va'hamishim) means "and fifty," which together express the number 950 in the Hebrew text.
This is in keeping with the traditional Hebrew writing system where numbers are represented by letters.

          @Kaltun

          Salam...
Good to hear from you after long lapse..
Yes.. Brother.. Let's consider only what is mentioned in Quran and Allah has not mentioned about his family's surviving years... And it is not Torah.. Look!.. Quran clearly refers a book called Torah and such a named book still around and there might have been definitely infusions as Quran itself claims they change... But book's name is same so we can't totally discard it.. In such a book everything is mentioned about ages of those people and needless to repeat what Allah has already clarified.. Yes Allah has mentuoned stories what is already in Torah, in Quran too but not in identical manner. Why to totally reject Torah while it contains Alan's verses and names like Gibreal Adam Nuh Ibrahim Musa and many more.. Are all these lies? These names are not inventions and they are the same names Allah repeats in QURAN.. Since Torah explained ages, Quran or Injeel may not have repeated but later books came to confirm earlier books.. Yes.. Injeel is not bible... And bible is not totally human made book either but definitely a book of human with God's revelations inserted partially.. So when you read Quran you can discard what is not aligned with Quran.. Bur Yes.. You can discard even totally bible since the name itself not in Quran.. Up to you... But you can't discard Torah.. Simply you can't.. It contains God's verses for sure and the name of the book remains ... Though there can be infusions.. You can understand human verses in Torah while reading Quran.. And remember most of you don't read direct Hebrew verses but translations.. So who knows what is translated like Quran is translated to taste their own religion.. Torah didn't come after Quran to mention Nuh lived 950 years but it was there before Quran and still there..
In Torah one Entire chapter is all about ages and their stories only.. So if you think it is a made up stories then up to you.. If everything in genesis is wrong then it is impossible for what reason..

          @Hawk
          Salam..
Yes.. Every story in Quran Allah gives a sign /lesson for us to reflect but one will grasp the story completely if he understands the story without any blemish only and with Allah's guidance alone.. If one says age not important, then 950 Kafirs who lived is important?.. Why we we want to know the number of kafirs? Needless.. But if Nuh tarried with them 950 years then it will definitely test the audience and readers whether this story is real or fairy tale... Cuz his mind will question 950 is sureal... Allah tests.. Allah could have ended the story without the verse 2914 where 1000-50 is mentioned and still we understand the message of complete story.. Same with people of cave.. Allah could have ended the story without 309 and still we understand.. But these specific lines tests our faith truly cuz we are not prepared enough to accept 950 years of life span or 309 alive sleeping ... . so most deduce.. Wow what a fish story.. Anceint fairy tale...

          @Fusion..
          Salam
Thank you.. Let's hope you stated what it is written in Hebrew.. So it means most probably Hebrew people were advanced in numeric to mention all those numbers in modern way..

In addition to that I highly doubt the number of years the people of cave remained is mentioned in previous scriptures specially in Torah.. But I hope people of cave is mentioned somewhere in previous scriptures.. But QURAN only mentioned number of years they remained .. But story was familiar with everyone.. That's why people already were saying about their number like they were three or five etc.. But no one seems bothered a lot how many years they remained in cave but Allah reveals 300 plus 9 ..it's a test of faith.. Yes.. In the story more than their number and their years of staying in cave, there are so much to reflect but nothing is to be neglected from the story . Torah is full of numbers and if 309 is missing then we can deduce Allah didn't reveal number of years in Torah.. So Allah didn't reveal exact number of people in the cave in Torah as well so that's why speculation is around.. Yes.. Even in Quran Allah didn't reveal how many of them they were.. So it's mystry for sure other than those who indeed knew of it..

So my fellow believers.. It's not about numbers here it tests our faith with these numbers.. Are we ready to believe or say impossible or take a moderate view highly leaning to one side? Isn't 2914 manifest enough? "He remained with them 1000 years save 50 years "
What do you want from this verse ?
If one has doubt of 950 years of life span, then he would try to change the meaning of this verse? isn't there any other reason to change the meaning of the verse? Okay let's hope they chsnged it. But pls make sense... Where is logic?

Note Everyone.. Before addressing Nuh verses Allah said this in 2911

2911 "And Allah will surely make evident those who believe, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites."

Indeed there is message.. Cuz 2912-13 disbelievers wants believers to follow their path... Then all important 2914 anf such verses are hard to believe save by believers..
Why Allah need to expose hypocrites... Believers will instantly realize hypocrocy of a person.. Hypocrocy hardly dies ..it carries to the grave.
Believers know by the tone of their speach the hypocrites... That's quran..

Yes.. Brother.. Let's consider only what is mentioned in Quran and Allah has not mentioned about his family's surviving years..

It's so cruel to live for so many years and witness the passing of all loved ones. Why has he been granted such a long life? What is the purpose behind it? He built his "Ark" while his family was alive, unlike the stories from the Torah and Bible where it's written that he built the Ark with the help of fallen angels.

As you mentioned, only Noah is mentioned with this "lifespan," not his people or family ( not his Qawmi, aal or Ahl). So, think about that.

Noah's son wanted fled to a mountain, but it doesn't specify which mountain, just any mountain. It doesn't matter if the mountain is large or small; he's simply fleeing to a mountain.

There isn't a single Arabic word for the Ark. The word "Al-fulk" in the Quran is plural (while "al-falak" is singular). So, what was Noah building?

Furthermore, there isn't a single proof that the Torah is original; its origin is a mystery. The Talmud states that Moses wrote it, but the Quran is clear about it... It was given to Musa , same as al-Injeel , it was injeel, then ask your self and be sincere ....

WHO WROTE the BIBLE(S) and ask also which bible and check which language is the orginal bible ..
did Isa spoke Greeks ?? lol .. greeks aka latin alfabets .. did you guys not think on this ?

didnt you guys see the similarity between the stories in torah/bible/Quran ? if the stories are the same what benefits gives the Quran comparing to other books ? the minor diffence between those books is the outcome? thats what is Allah trying to teach us ?

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Bring us a Qur'an other than this or change it." Say,
, "It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

they didnt like what the real message was of the Quran and wanted back to their man made books thats why they are nagging about it and asking to change to their books ... think en ponder on this

            ٱلۡحَاۤقَّةُ ۝١

            Quran 691

what is the (real) truth ...

The Quran stands apart from other books; it is 100% the words of Allah. No other book contains the direct words of Allah, neither the Torah, nor the Psalms, nor the Bibles.

The more I read and research the Quran, the clearer it becomes to me. I feel a growing strength in my faith, and my perspective on the world has significantly changed.

              Salam..
Point No. 1. Quran never stated Torah was revealed to Musa.. That's your erroneous assumption..

Yes.. Only Nuh's age / remained years with them is mentioned in Quran and not any other single person.. So.. No point of digging.. Allah talked about Nuh alone and his age..

To live long life could be difficult in our comprehension, so don't frame it to your perspective while you live in modern era.. Quran stated that those who are Yahudi wished each to have 1000 years of life span... So. It depends.. After all, how can one live forever even in Janna as long as earth and heavens last,.. Wouldn't the inhabitants of Janna get tired?. That's our assumptions.. Let's not confine our weak speculation to the truth..

How tall mountain was is not question, but why would he betake to a mountain hoping it would save him from the water?

              Regarding ship..

              4232
"And of His signs are the Sailing / ships (jīm rā yā) on the sea, like mountains.

              6911
"Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship(jīm rā yā)"

jīm rā yā ...this word has a meaning of Sail / flow / move etc but when added contextually it can mean anything.. So when it is connected with Sea it may mean ship.. If connected with air it can mean anything.. Just like the above verse 4232 abd 6911.

Even the word Safīnat is ship/boat..

              1871
"So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship (Safeenat) , he tore it open. said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing."

              2915
              "
"But We saved him and the companions of the ship(Safeenat), and We made it a sign for the Alamin(all races) ."

Same the word fā lām kāf ... It can mean float / glide and mean ship or whatever.. Why not?

              2164
"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the ships (AlFulk) which sail through the sea with that which benefits people......"

              4512
"It is Allah who subjected to you the sea so that ships (Alfulk) may sail upon it by His command and that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful."

              764
              "
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship(Alfulk). And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people."

              1137
"And construct the ship(Alfulk) under Our observation and Our inspiration and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned."

Quran is clear... Fulk or Falak, no changes in the way it is written.. Same letters.. Just you pronounce Fulk or Falak ..just check old Quran writings if needed.. Anyway Nuh built only one ship... That's clear.. You are confused.. And word fulk means ship, so what's the point of denying it is not ship.. ? Not only Fulk but Safeenat and jariat as well means ship too and prophet Nuh was connected by these three words and you want to deny all three words?

QURAN didn't come with totally new concept to previous books like Torah and Injeel but it came to confirm them and to complete the revelations of Allah and to point out what they hide in the previous revelations.. So.. Why would not QURAN look but identical to Torah.. You want Quran to be entirely different to previous scriptures to look unique so one can completely eradicate previous scriptures.. Nope.. That's what modern scholars are up to.. They want to bring a new concept stating Quran doesn't say this and that what Torah says..lol.. That's why they falter cuz they want to give a totally new meaning to Quranic verses where it looks similar with Torah.. What for...? So these new scholars' aim is to show to the world Quran has no such fancy stories like Torah states... cuz their iman/faith is zero in such verses and they already decided it's impossible so they alter the meaning.. When the aim is fruitless they will falter for sure...

I am immensely glad to hear that you feel you are getting near and near towards your Lord ...

May Allah guide you.. And us too..

say what ?? i also didnt say it was revealed to Musa
to whom is it revealed than ? bring me your proofs from the Quran pls...

those who are asking for long life span are ignorant .... they dont know what they are wishing for .. and asking doesnt mean they will granted...

How tall mountain was is not question, but why would he betake to a mountain hoping it would save him from the water?

its very important , you automaticly will chose the highest mountain if you know there will be flood and if you talk say to to someone you will point or say which mountain you are gonna take ...
he could also say , i am fleeing to one of those big mountains ... but it doesnt say this ..its say a mountain ....

                1137
"And construct the ship(Alfulk) under Our observation and Our inspiration and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned."

thus you are saying Allah is using synonyms to say the same thing ?? safinaat and alfulk are the same ???
becarefull with what you are saying ... if you are wrong and this can be bad for you ...

QURAN didn't come with totally new concept to previous books like Torah and Injeel but it came to confirm them and to complete the revelations of Allah and to point out what they hide in the previous revelations

i really find your finding very dangerous ....
where did you ever read the orginal Tawrat or al-injeel ?? how do you know what is written in there ??
doesnt Allah says that the earlies scriptures were altered ?? how can you believe 1 word of altered info ...

Why would not QURAN look but identical to Torah

Torah is not TAWRAT ... or do you have other proofs .. debunk my saying with the Quran pls .. dont take other sources ... our book is QURAN alone...

                2164
"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the ships (AlFulk) which sail through the sea with that which benefits people......"

what has day and night to do with the ships are sailing , i mean what benefits i can get from this ?
"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, AND the alternation of the night AND the ships (AlFulk) which sail through the sea with that which benefits people......"

how can you explain what skies are or heavens (al-samawati) ?

what happened is, they ( the translators .. not all of them btw) didnt check on the word how it used and where .. they knew the stories from altered books and forced this to the Quran... and people dont think or deflect on the ayaats and blindly accepting what is told to them and what is translated ...

same as tranlasting this sentence to another language ( todays knowledge)
                i am gay , i am happy

but translated this before 1940-50 check what kind of sentence you get ....
mark my words over 10-20 years the rainbow colors will be only connected to trangenders ( in stead of pot of gold, you will have trangenders waiting for you )

Quran has build in dictionary and the teacher is Allah himself .. not me , not you not any one else

why are the people ignoring when Allah is saying use your mind or do you not ponder ..

                الله أعلم

                  @Fusion..
                  Salam

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reminding us of the importance of faith and the various ways it can be tested, as illustrated in the story of Noah. Your reference to the age of Noah and how it challenges our perceptions and faith is thought-provoking and you call it a test of faith. However, I'm reminded of another Quranic verse that speaks to the heart of our journey as believers. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2155), Allah tells us, "We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure."

This verse beautifully encapsulates the essence of our earthly existence and the tests we are destined to face. It's not just the extraordinary events or numbers that challenge our faith but also the everyday trials and tribulations that shape our spiritual journey.

The miraculous events in the lives of prophets, such as Noah's age, Jesus's birth having no father, Moses parting the sea, or the people of the cave, indeed inspire awe and reflection. But these narratives serve multiple purposes, including demonstrating the power of Allah and offering lessons in faith and obedience. Yet, our understanding and interpretation of these events may vary. This diversity in interpretation has been a part of our scholarly tradition and reflects the vastness of Allah's wisdom and the depth of the Quranic message.

Our predecessors in faith (those who uphold Quran as the single souce) had also approached these narratives with reverence and sought to understand them within the broader context of Allah's guidance. It is in this spirit that we should also approach them, recognizing that our ultimate test lies not in deciphering the specifics of these miracles but in how we respond to the trials and tribulations of our own lives, as highlighted in verse 2155.

The true challenge and test, as outlined by Allah, encompass the fear, hunger, loss of wealth, life, and fruits that we experience. How we endure these tests, with patience and steadfastness, is what defines our faith. It is in our resilience and trust in Allah's wisdom that we find our path to spiritual growth and fulfillment.

Thank you for this engaging discussion, and may it serve as a reminder of the breadth and depth of our faith, encouraging us to always approach our beliefs with humility, openness, and a spirit of mutual respect.

Let me share a personal story that echoes the profound reality of these words. Trust me, the test of losing a loved one is incredibly difficult; I have witnessed it myself. My cousin sister’s 17-year-old son was suddenly diagnosed with leukemia, and within a span of one year, he passed away right in front of us, despite all the efforts and treatments they could muster. They managed a few chemotherapy sessions, but it became too costly for them to continue. She was devastated, constantly asking me, "Why did God do this to her?" This was about four years ago, and now, she has grown closer to God, engaging more deeply in prayer, fasting, and reading the Quran. For her, the nuances of the ages and the supernatural events described in the Quran take a backseat to her own personal journey of faith and hope. She finds solace in her religion, holding onto the hope of reuniting with her son in paradise one day.

                    Salam..
It's all on our decision that leads to guidance and misguidance. But if we honestly leave the decision to the Lord He will guide since He is the Guide of the book.. Having said that...
I am sorry about your beloved one's immature demise... Even it happens to disbelievers or anyone and they emotionally approach various prayers and charity and many more things in their own way.. It's not what believers are up to... If it is a test you should learn a lesson from it and overcome it.. That's the purpose of test...
Look! this TEST is two types in my perception of Quran .. I am exploring whenever I have time but not yet conclusive to enlighten them to you all.. The test you brought 2155 is just a very simple test.. And the word used simply is Balau.. And not Fitna and it is another Test.. Both may not be same.. One is a comprehensive Exam or a trial with long term basis and the other is an instant Test and targeted one subject.. Read all Balau verses and Fitna verses in order for you to get what exactly Allah tests with.. 2155 just a sip from the bottle.. Don't deduce with it everything.. And 2155 is almost material/possession loss test..
When Allah says "Your Children are a TRIAL for you " then it has a very deep meaning than test of Fear or losing a life.. I wish you read all verses and compare.. It's very interesting if you dive into it. .. Trust me..

Well it's not about Nuh's age... whatever Anyway Quran's verses are indeed a TRIAL for anyone to accept or deny wholeheartedly.. Allah knows what's in heart.. Allah knows what one thinks of His verses.. One doesn't need to verbally in public deny verses of Allah but Allah knows I or you accepted the verses or harbored doubt or confused impulsively, and if so Allah definitely would guide us ... But if harbored doubt.. I am afraid.. The one who doesn't have any idea of the verses is not subjective here.. But who gave a thought and then gave a thought and resorted to a meaning away from what it deserves. They are accountable for their rejection..
I hope you got the cream and the essence of my message..
                    hail

QURAN has used Sana / Aama / Hawl to mean YEAR and no specific reason save synonym...

Arabic, being a highly descriptive language, offers specific terms to capture different time concepts

Amāan (عَامٌ) This term refers to a single, well-defined year. It emphasizes the individuality of the year.

Sanawāt (سنوات) The plural of "Sanah" (سنة), Sanawat refers to duration or a span of time.

Sinīn (سنين) This term emphasizes the sequential nature of years. It highlights the order and continuity, similar to saying "a series of years" in English.

Here's an analogy to visualize the difference

Amāan - like a specific point on a number line

Sanawāt - like the distance between two points on a number line

Sinīn - like a sequence of numbers along a number line

                      For example,

1247 cultivating for seven Sinīn, emphasizing the consecutive years involved and not planting for seven years in duration.

1249 furthermore, bringeth from after such Āmun (عام) year (specific). In it, relief is given to the people, and in it, they are pressing (fruit to extract juices or oils, etc.)
