Semantic Interpretation, Thematic Meaning, and Rhetoric
Winds in action Sand-dust transporting wind systems.Verse 1 وَٱلْعَٟدِيَٟتِ ضَبْحًۭا
• وَ Wāw al-Qasam (particle of oath).
• ٱلْعَٰدِيَٰتِ Active participle (اسم فاعل) from root ع د و, meaning “those that run swiftly or charge”. Feminine plural —
• ضَبْحًا Cognate accusative (مفعول مطلق) — a verbal noun from root ض ب ح, indicating the panting or snorting of horses while galloping. The object used for oath (ٱلْعَٟدِيَٟتِ) is definite feminine plural active participle. Active Participles are formed from the Present Tense Active Voice Verb; and one of its unique features is that it has a verbal quality. It signifies that it has the same meaning as the Active Voice Verb and can even govern words in the same manner as a verb governs in a sentence. It can also signify a person or thing-object to whom-which existence of a particular state or effect is attributed. However, the attribution of a state is not understood to be permanent in an Active Participle. Due to this peculiarity, it is also referred as Verbal Adjective.
The participle is of Form-I, derived from intransitive verb يَعْدُو, verbal noun عَدْوٌ, stemming from Rootع د و.Lexicographer Ibn Faris stated" يدلُّ على تجاوُزٍ في الشيء وتقدُّمٍ لما ينبغي أن يقتصر عليه that the perception encoded in it is to move away-traverse instead of remaining confined, limited or reduced to the thing". It, therefore, denotes those who have become enemy signifying disassociation of affiliation, nearness, distancing. Element of heat, warmness, conflict, friction and agitation is inherent in the action signified by the Root in whatever semantic field it might be used. Lane's Lexicon, quoting Er-Raghib, describes its primary signification as; "transition; or the going, passing beyond, or transgressing and incompatibility to coalescence".
Since it is intransitive, therefore, if someone takes them as "female horses", then they must be wild horses in the jungle who are running away distancing themselves in fear from the predator. And not the horses of the soldiers in the battlefield since they do not run at their own will, and they are not mares.
There could be no better technique to sharpen the focus of the listener and reader than suspense at the very outset. The suspense is to know who they are running horizontally in a direction in rather emotionally charged manner.
It is immediately followed by a gerund/verbal noun ضَبْحًۭا as Cognate adverb for the elided verb. This adverb is used either to explain the manner or to provide the multitude in which the action takes place, or to place emphasis on the action. Cognate adverbs need not be from the same Root as the mentioned action but must have a similar meaning. Its Root ض ب ح (used once) signifies sound and alteration of colour by the effect of fire/heat. Lane's Lexicon states it signifies the sound that is heard from the mouths of horses when fatigued-running; and signifies alteration of colour of a thing caused by fire, and the Sun but not in a great degree.
The hot air emitted from nostrils of horses, running-velocity produces little pulses of sound. So is the hiss of air escaping with velocity . These two words portray most important characteristics of winds, which are direction, velocity and turbulence, which cause the following action.
-
Ayah 2 فَٱلمُورِيَٟتِ قَدْحًۭا
• فَ Connective particle (fa’) — sequence/intensification.
• ٱلْمُورِيَاتِ Active participle from root و ر ي, meaning “to strike fire, spark”.
• قَدْحًا Verbal noun — “striking sparks” (typically by hooves hitting rocks; striding over).
It is amazing to find that the following dependent clause فَٱلمُورِيَٟتِ is like "striding over" which is the meaning of poetic term "Enjambment" used to carry the reader smoothly and swiftly, without interruption, to the next line of the poem. The conjunction particle is cause and effect indicative. The velocity and hotness turn those ٱلْعَٟدِيَٟتِ as ٱلمُورِيَٟتِ which is Form-IV feminine plural definite active participle, from Rootو ر ی. It signifies to kindle fire
أَفَرَءَيْتُـمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِـى تُورُونَ ٧١
• Ironically then, if you do not certify My act of creating you, have you ever reflected upon the fire, she which you keep exposing-unveiling to become visible? (Kindle)? How they become who might cause igniting fire at that moment is described by cognate adverb قَدْحًۭا about which Ibn Faris said, يدلُّ على غَرْفِ شيء that it leads to the perception "scoop up, ladle". Lane's Lexicon shows its meanings as "extracting, eliciting".
During hot summers, due to hot environment, the speed of hot air is high. This causes the dry leaves and trees to collide each other. This collision results in friction, which, in turn, produces a spark. Dry leaves easily catch those sparks and start burning.
Ayah 3 فَٱلْمُغِيـرَٟتِ صُبْحًۭا
• فَ Connective particle (fa’ الفصيحة) — eloquent.
• ٱلْمُغِيرَاتِ Active participle from غ ي ر,
• صُبْحًا Temporal accusative (ظرف زمان), “at dawn”.
The next stride over is فَٱلْمُغِيـرَٟتِ, which conjuncts by the particle with ٱلْعَٟدِيَٟتِ. The participle and following cognate adverb indicate that the particle is one termed الفصيحة "eloquent" because conjuncts to an elided element whereby it adds fluency and reveals the elided element. This participle is also Form-IV which can be considered stemming from Root غ و رand غ ی ر. These signify the one who takes things downwards to the bottom, and the one who changes the atmosphere, surroundings. The change is described by verbal noun صُبْحًۭا meaning the dawn before sunrise. The dust laden winds block out the Sun that reduce the visibility and the day seems as early morning. These participles take down the day towards its bottom; render the atmosphere/surroundings to give it a look of dawn. This clarifies the elided element of cause, which is that since ٱلْعَٟدِيَٟتِ are laden with dust they become ٱلْمُغِيـرَٟتِ.
Ayah 4 فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًا
• فَ Connective particle (fa’) — sequence/intensification.
• أَثَرْنَ Perfect verb, 3rd person feminine plural — “they stirred up”.
• بِهِ Preposition + pronoun “with it” — likely referring to the ground or charge.
• نَقْعًا Direct object — stable depository.
The next stride over is by verbal sentence (فَأَثَرْنَ) with Form-IV perfect, third person plural feminine verb and the subject noun is referent to ٱلْعَٟدِيَٟتِ. The verb (Root ت و ر) means to render its object نَقْعًۭا stable depository as raised above the surface. The substance used for the action of making a depository is stated by prepositional phrase بِهِۦ where the object pronoun refers the (رَمْل) very fine fragments of rock - sand. These sand laden winds make sand dunes of considerable height.
Ayah 5 فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا
• فَ Connective particle (fa’) — sequence/intensification.
• وَسَطْنَ Perfect verb, 3rd feminine plural — “they made a heap”.
• بِهِ With it — possibly the charge.
• جَمْعًا Object —
Sand transporting wind systems later did this فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ they made a heap-accumulation (جَـمْعًا) central to sides with its input. Sand dunes are created when wind deposits sand on top of each other until a small mound starts to form. Once that first mound is formed; sand piles up on the windward side more and more, until the edge of the dune collapses under its own weight.
Arabic words are illustrative. They verbally mirror the image of actions and states in such manner that its complete picture and visuals become conveniently perceivable. The perception and meanings of ten words in above five Unitary Verbal Passages portray Wind action. The descriptive illustrations also correspond to Shamal (Arabic word) winds that are dust laden and reduce the visibility. Shamal, hot and dry, and dusty is the northerly to north-westerly wind that blows in Iraq, Iran, and the Arabian Peninsula.
The verbal pictography is also that of "Haboob" a strong wind that are common in parts of the Sahara desert and in the Arabian Peninsula. "Haboob" (هُبُوبٌ) is Arabic word which means the wind blew, rose and was in a state of commotion; and dust rising, or spreading, in the sky as smoke. They are very strong dust and sand storms that move through hot and dry regions. They change the day time look as if is dawn scene. -
Rhetorical Elements
• Oath Structure Purpose To grab attention and set a high-stakes background for a moral assertion.
• Rhythm and Sound Consonantal tightness and heavy “ض”, “ق”, “ص” sounds create urgency and intensity.
• Parallelism Repeated structure “فَٱلـ…” creates rhythm and dramatic buildup.
• Tension Rhetorically builds a narrative — winds as cavalry unit charging with speed, sparks, surprise, and precision.
Perlocutionary Act The rhetorical oath aims to
o Shake the audience’s complacency.
o Evoke awe of disciplined and selfless action vs. human ingratitude.
These verses are an example of qasam (oath) followed by jawab al-qasam (the response), which comes later in verse 6.
Verse 6 إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٟنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَـكَنُودٚ ٦
• إِنَّ Particle of emphasis (حرف توكيد) + initiates a nominal sentence.
• ٱلْإِنسَٟنَ Noun in accusative case as the ism of إِنَّ (اسم إِنَّ) = "the human being".
• لِرَبِّهِۦ Prepositional phrase (جار ومجرور) = "towards his Lord" or "regarding his Lord".
• لَكَنُودٌ خبر إِنَّ (predicate), with لام التوكيد (laam of emphasis) + كنود = "certainly most ungrateful."
Earlier all that was stated to elicit concentrated attention on this fact and to persuade the reader not to remain in that category of general public
إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٟنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَـكَنُودٚ ٦
• The intent is to highlight in general terms the psyche of the Man that he mourns the painful occasions and events but is certainly unappreciative, ill-recognizer and thankless for his Sustainer Lord regards all the grants —Style Starts with "Inna" (certainty marker) and ends with "la" (emphatic particle)—forming a rhetorical clamp emphasizing how intensely unnatural this ingratitude is. While the storm obeys, man resists—despite enjoying life-sustaining provisions. The dust cloud submits…the dust-formed human rebels. It is obvious that the objective was not to merely reiterate a commonly observed fact in the society. It is meant to persuade him to analyse his own self, and mend himself accordingly.
وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَـىٰ ذَٟلِكَ لَشَهِيدٚ ٧
• And indeed he is certainly an observer of this phenomenon and aforementioned psyche and attitude of people in the society.
• وَإِنَّهُ Another emphatic construction (Indeed, he).
o هُ refers to al-insān (man).
• عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ Prepositional phrase — “upon that ”.
• لَشَهِيدٌ خبر إِنَّ — emphatic predicate "surely a witness" (to himself).
The sandstorm left visible trace (نقعًا). Likewise, man's behavior leaves moral traces, and he witnesses himself standing in that dust.
وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْـرِ لَشَدِيدٌ٨
• And indeed he is for the love of the beneficial things certainly very keen.
• وَإِنَّهُ Repetition of emphatic structure — "And indeed he".
• لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْـرِ Prepositional phrase — "in love of good (wealth)".
• لَشَدِيدٌ خبر إِنَّ — “certainly intense.”
The sandstorm spreads and disperses, but man hoards and tightens. Nature is in motion; man is stagnant in possession.
Cause-effect moral logic
The last part is a resonance of the first, and an answer to the middle —
It shows that ignorance (or willful neglect) of the Resurrection is the root cause of human deviation.
أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِـى ٱلْقُبُورِ ٩
• Has he not known when that which is in the graves will be overturned—Syntax
• أفلا Interrogative with rebuke and emphasis; the "فَـ" (Fa) is الفاء الفصيحة — known as the eloquent Fa — which is not merely a sequential connector but implies an understood, implied consequence or inference from the previous statement + "lā" (not).
• يَعْلَمُ Imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) – “does he not know?”
• بُعْثِرَ Passive perfect verb from root ب-ع-ث-ر, meaning to dig out, scatter, overturn violently.
• ما في القبور "What is in the graves" — refers to the dead, but includes their deeds and secrets metaphorically buried with them.
Exegetical Insight
" يَعْلَمُ أَفَلَا..." isn't just a question — it functions perlocutionarily
• It challenges the audience to reflect,
• It subtly says "He is like this (كَـنُود, شَدِيد) precisely because he does not internalize the reality of accountability."
This makes the entire Sura a closed loop• The oath opens the scene → man is judged → the true knowledge of resurrection would shatter this delusion.
The "فَ" in this verse
• Is not temporal only, but epistemological.
• It represents the pivot from human denial to divine unveiling.
• It connects man's present moral blindness to his future, undeniable accountability.
• It serves as the literary fulcrum moving the discourse from oath-evoked imagery → moral verdict → cosmic reckoning.
This rhetorical question addresses man’s heedlessness of the Resurrection. The passive verb بُعْثِرَ carries the sense of disruption and upheaval — the serene silence of the grave will be shattered, and what was thought to be finished will be stirred anew. It connects poetically and thematically to نقعاً (dust-cloud) and جمْعًا (gathered mass) in the earlier verses — as the dust was stirred by galloping steeds, the dead will be stirred by the divine command.
This rhetorical structure is mirrored in
وَإِذَا ٱلْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ ٤عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٚ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ ٥
• And when the graves would have been overturned — . Every person came to know what he had sent forward and what legacy/effects/visible marks he had left behind. As the sandstorm penetrated through gatherings, so the Day of Requital will penetrate graves, turning the hidden into visible truth.
وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِـى ٱلصُّدُورِ ١٠
• And is made apparent that which is in the chests.Like wind peeling away layers of dust to reveal terrain, Allah’s justice will strip away facades to reveal the soul’s state.
This verse echoes and intensifies the previous one. Where the graves reflect bodily resurrection, the chest signifies the spiritual-moral interior — what man harbored deep inside. Not only the physical dead, but the truth within hearts will be extracted and made manifest.
Here, حُصِّلَ evokes the image of crops being harvested — the raw contents of the chest are separated, laid bare, refined. It is divine accounting, not merely judgment, but disclosure.
إِنَّ رَبَّـهُـم بِـهِـمْ يَوْمَئِذٛ لَّخَبِيـرُۢ ١١
• They will vividly realize the Day they would have been resurrected that their Sustainer Lord was always fully aware as being in their company.
Just as the wild sandstorm is a testimony to Divine control, this final verse asserts everything man forgets, Allah knows completely.
Synopsis the Winds that Testify
This compact yet potent chapter of the Qur’ān opens with the thundering rhythm of wind systems, likened to galloping steeds — not mere weather phenomena, but celestial testifiers to the Divine Order. These are not errant gusts but winds with intent they spark, obscure, mount, and gather— until the terrain itself is transformed.
But while nature obeys, man forgets.
The real focus of this Sura is not the wind, but the wind within man — his own surging desires, his frantic clinging to material gain, and his blindness to the approaching reckoning. The dust-clouds of desire and denial that surround him are not unlike the sandstorms of the desert — impressive, turbulent, but destined to clear.
Through eloquent oath and piercing interrogation, the chapter moves from external imagery to internal exposure. It unveils man’s psyche — ungrateful, self-aware, but heedless — and then brings the full gravity of the Hereafter into view.
Like the grave overturned, or the chest lay bare, every truth will surface. And the Lord, whose winds obey and whose knowledge enfolds all, is not distant — He is خَبِير fully acquainted with what lies within.
Sura Al-ʿĀdiyāt is a circular moral parable — beginning in dust, ending in disclosure — with a perlocutionary force that leaves no heart untouched. It reminds us that while winds gather dust to create ridges, man too is shaped by what he gathers… and by what he remembers, or forgets. -

Is MQD 3.1 some software?Salam!
Thanks! MQD 3.1 isn’t software — it stands for Minimalistic Quranic Decoding, a method I developed to understand the Qur’an using only its internal logic. It’s based on the idea that every letter, root, and structure in the Qur’an carries meaning, and we decode it without relying on later grammar or tafsir. It’s like reading the Qur’an as it presents itself, using its own patterns — not external assumptions

Which source for meanings of letters you are applying? Ibn Jinni?
Salam!
Brother, I haven't studied ibn jinni. The meanings are derived from the Quran itself and validated against all the roots across the Quranic text. Since my research papers are in submission / review process yet, I cannot disclose them. However, if you like to see an ayah or a set of ayats translated/analysed under My Minimalistic Quranic Decoding (MQD 3.1), I will gladly share it with you. This statement is patently ambiguous and misleading rather
//The meanings are derived from the Quran itself and validated against all the roots across the Quranic text.//The Root has specific, defined, distinct, conspicuous and apparent concept, phenomenon, perception and signification folded in it. It is the source, the reservoir of knowledge. Roots can be termed as "repertory of frames" of Arabic language if we follow frames approach to semantic analysis.
The amazing fact about the Roots of Arabic is that the perception infolded in them is reflective of physical—scientific realities pertaining both to matter and life. They seem as if they are the baseline for scientific study and investigation.
For semantics, Root is like the first of trinucleotide sequence of anticodon.

Each root consists of 3 letters and each letter has a definite meaning. That's the core of the MQD system.

This is what I earlier asked. The question was about Abu Jinni. He is one who worked on Meanings of the letters of alphabet.
The phrase "definite meaning" refers meaning that are recognized by everybody. And they have a source. What is your Source?
