Here are some issues concerning the Quran that I need help with. I have searched all the previous discussions yet I need further discussion- Noah's extraordinary age- at least 950 years(2914)
- Jonah's not dying in the belly of the whale
- Dreams telling about future as in the case of Joseph
- Who is Michael? (29
In general, should we rationalize extraordinary occurences in the Quran?

Michael is probably some angel . and by the way Jonah was swallowed by a fish , not a whale .whale is a mammal . thats what i have read . tell me if they translated it incorrectly , please .

salam.Khi- Salam. Michael is an angel also mentioned in the NT of the Bible 2 times only. I quote from New American Standard Bible
Jude 1
9. But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
Revelation 12
7. And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war,
Thus the Quran confirms parts of the NT of the Bible. I did not find Michael as an angel in the OT. Taken from

As 2 ur 2nd part the Arabic says 'hoot' which means fish in general as u correctly say. But it doesnt make sense tht Jonah be swallowed by any other fish than a whale 4 how can a human fit into those. In Arabic language fish r all those creatures with fins which swim in water be they mammals or not. GOD Bless! -

Michael's identity is not specified but we are forbidden to oppose him(29. How can we avoid opposing an entitty that we do not know? And we should understand Michael from Quran alone. How can Jonah survive in the belly of a fish? How come can dreams predict future as far as science is concerned? How can Noah live so long as 950 years? -

In the Quran we find many entities mentioned by NAME only coz GOD knew tht there wld be generations who know these n i understand these verses 2 be a call on them in particular. Quran also mentions a Prophet named Idris by name without going into details. As far as Jonah is concerned i believe one can survive in the belly of a big fish like a whale 4 some time period as its stomach is very large n there is air in there too 4 breathing. Also tht fish might have been under direct control of GOD. I c no prob here at all. As far as dreams concerning 2 predict the future is concerned this is where tellepathy comes in. Many a times it has been shown tht some ppl have telepathic abilities e.g. sometimes a mother can sesne 6000 kms away tht somrthings gonna appen 2 her child without knowing the incidences taking place in the other country.This may happen coz of the quantum carrier particles which can travel through space carrying information over very long distances. As i said quantum mechanics may be the final solution 2 answer all these. U have 2 get out of the limited 19 century materialistic view. Nows the age of quantum mechanics. As 4 Noah having lived so long again this is an extra ordinary event or a miracle. GOD can easily manipulate the aging gene which wld then coz the human 2 age slower. Here is a translation which does make sense from the age point of view , but does science say people lived for a thousend years?I am not sure of that.

We (once) sent Noah to his people, and he tarried among them a thousand years less fifty but the Deluge overwhelmed them while they (persisted in) sin.NEW TRANSLATION
We sent Noah to his people and he stayed among them united/affectionate/many years less/except fifty years and overtook them the Deluge while they where wrong-doers.This is of course according to the use made of the word ALLAFA in the ayat 863 and according to the Quranic Dictionary
ALLAFA=to be accustomed/join together/unite/reconcile e.t.c
I might try translating your other ayats - when if have the time.But i am sure its all in the translations though.
I am certainly wrong if scienctific research says people did live to be a thousend years.

- Who is Michael?
Mikal like Gibril are descriptions of two of the many of God?s controllers. They perform certain functions in the physical world like the other controllers, i.e., the taking of the self at death or radio waves. These words can be translated. They are not proper nouns irrespective of what is in the Bible which is not the ?Torah? and ?Injeel? mentioned in the reading. They are not ?names? of ?angels?. I hope that will help.

it doesnt make sense ? sure it doesnt to us . but 1400 years ago when the koran was revealed and it informed us that ants can communicate , that would not have made sense to the ppl of that time either . but now with the advances made in science we know that ants can communicate very well . koran was indeed correct even though it didnt make sense to ppl . same can be said of the fish story .In Arabic language fish r all those creatures with fins which swim in water be they mammals or not. Malik. Let them know that whoever is an enemy to Allah, His

Allah (Himself) is an enemy to the disbelievers.verse 298 is alking about God's angels and his messengers . i think gabriel and michael are angel messenger s. God knows best .
how can jonah survive in the belly of a fish ? dunno how . but God is the giver of lifeand death .
how can dreams predict future . ? dont know how exactly , but many ppl claim to have such knowledge . my aunty's mother in law could interpret dreams very well .
how Noah lived 950 years? dunno . but we shouldnt say "if science doesnt prove this verse correct, then i m not gonna believe it "! because every ayat has its time of fulfilment .science keeps changing with time . but the word of God remains unchanged .

Khi- When GOD uses the word 'kalaam' in the Quran it doesnt necessary mean speech by voice but any communication as in the case of GOD doing 'kalaam' with Moses we cant say tht GOD spoke in voice by vibration of air molecules but tht He communicated with him directly in a way known 2 Him Alone. I am imagining it but can't - its so sophisticatedIt was like apple pie showing us Jesus in his topic of sura 89 in this section.
Believe me All the prophets where merely Human Beings but where given Scriptures or revelation and the power to understand them.
And Harunya site says "Even if we do not notice it, the ants have quite a different method of communication in virtue of their sensitive sensing organs."and a lot more.
Now are you saying that some of the prophets had such sensing organs or something?

Khi- Certain prophets were given certain abilities by GOD. For example Jesus cld heal the lepers n raise the dead. Moses cld part the sea with his staff n let it turn into a serpent. David cld bend iron with his hands
We endowed David with blessings from us "O mountains, submit with him, and you too, O birds." We softened the iron for him.
N so Solomon was blessed with understanding the animal communication, possibly through telepathic signals. Quantum mechanisms allow 4 all these things 2 happen. It is definitely not unlogical but it is an extra ordinary power n a sign from GOD. GOD Bless!PS Try 2 think beyond the illusionary material world. Darwinists back in the 19th century thght tht material is the only thing in existance. However modern science has shown the opposite. Think of the world as a Matrix controlled by GOD.

I am afraid i will have to disagree .But no disrespect i think its because of the different experiances/knowledge we might have had.But what you could think about is why did God just give all these extra-ordinary powers to the israllite prophets alone ,what about all them other prophets to the rest of humanity - surelly God might have given them some of these special powers don't you think or you reckon only the Israllite prophets where so special/or good enough .

by the way a verse in the koran tells that God has blessed some of his messengers more than the others . -

As far as the "miracle" of ?ssa' about healing and reviving people by the will of the god, we can see this very sign, not miracle, each time we go to see a doctor, or in a hospital, where people get treated for different forms of illnesses. ?ssa was blessed by the god to be inspired of some methods of healing.
The doctors/healers, by the will of the god the creator, by the limited knowledge they had acquired from "the book of the living", can heal and sometimes re-animate "dead" people.
At some point back in time, I believe that such a new discovery meant much for people. At those time, a simple injury could mean death because of infections.
